2019 Lexus GX 460 Review | Refined yet Behind

The GX, largely unchanged for 2019, is still an amazing SUV. Quiet, comfortable, and an immense presence on and off road. The lack of an updated interior, electronics, technology, and efficiency must be considered when in the market for a luxury SUV. If you plan on owning this vehicle for a long time...then it will surely last the test of time.

There is a reason I bought a 2017 Lexus 460 GX. I don't need the gimmicks that I pay a premium for but will never use, In my younger years I bought an LS430 Ultra Luxury and learned my lesson. Unless I have a chauffeur driving me around I don't need all the fluff, I'm all about practicality and reliability.

You are right about brake pedal. I just bought the used 2019 GX. When I first drove it I was surprised it didn’t stop completely when I push my foot on the brake pedal, I thought the brake worn out but like you said it needs to push all the way down for it to stop completely which imo is not good. I just test drove a 2021 GX and I had the same thought about the brakes. It seemed excessively hard to push down the brakes, almost like the pads were worn out.

My 2017 GX 460 stops on a dime, ass up. I don't have an issue at all and I have been on close calls, Maybe a wrong brake installation?

Body on frame does not make it a truck for instance a 1980 Chevy Caprice is body on frame but you wouldn't call it a truck would you? No! A truck is any vehicle that has a bed or bare frame in the back a suv is a car base on a truck platform.

Based on your review of the 2019 GX 460 (standard or premium models), Toyota Lexus isn't offering competitive packages. I guess my next vehicle in the near future may be a Mercedes rather than a Toyota. Today, Mercedes offers up-to-date safety , comfort, and entertainment packages. Someone at Toyota goofed IMHO.

GX is an amazing vehicle - reliable, luxurious, and one of the best off road vehicles in the world. It is however behind on technology and safety unless you splurge for the luxury package...like I said Lda, radar cruise, and pre collision should be standard!

You'll pay an incredible amount for things like radar cruise control in Mercedes. GX is a way better value and a far better long term ownership vehicle.

LEXUriouS Kirk Yes, I agree the costs do add up. I plan to test drive both a Mercedes and a Lexus. I’m disappointed how Toyota has been offering carry overs each year. Both Lexus and 4Runner models. Perhaps I should consider looking for used Land Cruisers, since new models start in the 80k price range. Off road capability is not a priority for me. Reliability and safety are. Total cost of ownership (TCO) is another factor, but I think it is complex to determine.

Dude - Cool video, but the model style started in 2014. I have a 2014 GX, $56k sticker, and I can’t tell the difference between it and a 2019. In fact, my 2014 is identical to the one in the video.

This is the thing I hate most in the Lexus SUV. I mean the heavy steering. I am sure that my wife will hate it too. I believe LEXUS isn't concerne enough about their female customers. Unfortunately, their Moto was Delighting their customer but in reality they ignore the customers. Thank you

I love the GX because it HASN'T changed !!! Manufacturers who change models yearly are simply "monkey see, monkey do" car builders...If it's not broken, don't fix it...The 2019 GX has to be the best of all the GX models to date.

I think the exterior looks okay for 2018 but the interior must be updated to look like the lx and rx. The GX is still a great car!

My 2004 GX470 with 169000 miles is still running like crazy. It can run for another 200K miles I think.

Of course is the same , they can’t change everything every year ,and new doesn’t mean better. 10 years old are the best , any problems are already fix and Lexus runs for 30 years with no problems. Don’t buy new Don’t buy Certified “ that’s a dealer scam . I own a 2009 ls 460 l awd , 128 k miles , I drove the 2013 with 32 k miles . Mine feels better, on ride and how the car handle. I pay 14.450 cash . Please don’t finance either, if you can’t afford pay cash , buy an old one , IS the same car, is the same car .

You don't need a mouse, less toys less chance of an accident. Lexus doesn't upgrade because their stuff works and why change something that works. OTHER dealers use smoke and mirrors and have changes every year because what they were selling didn't work.

I know these things run forever & that's the reason why ppl buy them but they have to update that interior, looks like 07 inside. They should do the lexus with a modern interior like the Camry or Rav4, leave the old bulky plastic on the 4runner.

People frequently say of the LX that it is "indestructible"...and "will last forever". Is the GX equally "indestructible" ...and will it too "last forever"...or is it a step down in longevity, durability and longevity? Which is a better car if the goal is to keep it forever? Kirk Kreifels Thanks for your help Kirk! If I may ask you, why do you feel the LX will last longer? Is one more prone to rust, frame stronger/less prone to rust, higher quality components, etc? Perhaps wrongly, but I was under the impression both LX and GX were made in same factory in Japan along with Toyota Land Cruiser and Prado...so same work force...and that GX was essentially a slightly differently designed, smaller LX with of course slightly less posh appointments...but core build was pretty much on par with LX. Not true? Thank you!

LX has a better interior in my opinion and it should hold up better over time. Both are super reliable. Find one that you like the best, you can't make a bad choice with either.

On luxury builds it has a auto breaking feature but it's different than what's on the rest of the Lexus line up. The GX has had blind spot monitoring for a long time now.

Why does this one look like the 2014-2016 models? As far as I know, after 2017 they added a sport front and rear lip on the lower bumpers as well as a lower chrome accent on the spindle grille

LEXUriouS Kirk looks like it’s different for us Canadians. In the US those are an add on for $2000 called sport design. Even on the luxury package, it’s still an add on. Here we have 3 packages: base technology and luxury. All of them have the sport design included.

It’s a nice car, but I think it screams Toyota 4Runner. The interior looks so dated and the infotainment display drives me crazy- why the constant beep at every press? The last time I saw that same system was in a 2006 Toyota Sienna! Also, I will say that the window master switch looks exactly like a Toyota’s window switch control... Lexus needs their own, separate parts to seem more upmarket. I know that the lights aren’t a big deal on such a small control, but I do like to see which button I am pressing, especially if it is really dark- it’s the small details in my option that matter. Nice job, Dude!

I might be weird but I prefer touchscreen like this It's like how all Lexus vehicles had at one stage You feel more connected lol The GX is a really good vehicle Where it lacks is that it does not feel Lexus enough it's way to similar to the land cruiser prado which it's based on The es and lx are also Lexus version of Toyota products but you will never know as they did such a good job they feel solely Lexus They just need to do the same formula with the gx What I love the GX has over the prado is the v8 Prado well in SA has the 4.0 v6 and a turbo diesel from hilux and fortuner The consumption on the v6 is bad and I would assume the v8 will be similar So rather have the v8 one time Reason the rx has more road noise is because of their tires very low profile

Never purchased a car that I hated so much, but I was forced to after a test drive... It's a Prado but it's more powerful, refined, smooth, more class, just heavy solid feel of an old Mercedes. It's quite and comfortable to a point that it could relax your muscles and gives you a stress relief... without the fancy seat massagers... Wish lexus updated the design, infotainment and gearbox. The GX was built with heavy work in mind so gearbox works like a proper 4wd irrespective of where you drive it...
