New to shooting but love it! Went out to try out other bows last week beyond what the shop I’ve been taking lessons at sells. After the lessons I’ve taken (starting in a recurve), I knew I needed to get my hands on various bows to find what worked best for me. Spent hours shooting various bows. Ended up ordering a 50# Avail. It was one of the last bows that I shot that day, but it just instantly fit. Loved shooting the vertix as well, but the Avail just felt perfect for me. Now I need to find someone to help me learn how to hunt! Anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Avail!!

Oops...at 5:58 when talking about the Traverse, he mentioned 75 and 80% let-off, but that let-off option is for the Vertix; the Traverse is 75 and 85%. I sold my HTR and chose the 85% LO Traverse this year because I seem to shoot the longer ATA bows a bit better; plus it shoots almost identically to my Halon 32-7, allowing me to switch back and forth fairly comfortably.

Mathews Traverse, it should have been the flagship. But I’m 6’4” with a 31” draw and hunt/shoot 3D with my bow...so I may be a little biased towards a longer bow. Either way it’s an amazing shooter that I’m lusting after ever since letting the bow shop talk me into shooting it.

Tough question. I've had one Matthews and two bow techs. I believe the big three are still Mathews, Bow Tech and Hoyt. Having said that, each year I look at bows, I can't seem to give up my 2010 Bow Tech Destroyer 340. It's fast and forgiving with a 7 inch brace height. I guess I'm going to answer a question with a question. Why have the brace heights gone down and speed not significantly changed over the last several years? Enjoyed the video, btw.

But if I were to buy a 2019 bow, because I like great bows with speed and accuracy, I think I'd go with the Hoyt RX3 with 80 lb limbs. The reviews look good to me.

I have a diamond blackout ss 60# 28.5" right now, and I like it, if I could afford a new bow I'll go for the vertix since it's a bow that I can own for years and years and not have to think of buying a new one after. As for changing the setup for hunting and target 3D (if money wasn't an issue). I would have a sight that uses something like the wedge lock system that axcel has, so have 2 sets of sight, one sighted in for hunting and one sighted in for target, and a set of arrows for each.

Hmmm, tough question, I still shoot a Bowtech RPM360 for 3D and Hunting. I tried out a ton of Bows this year. I really liked the Bowtech Realm SS, The Mathews Vertix and the Traverse. I think the Traverse probably would have my vote. Unfortunately non of them shoot any better than my old bow (just quieter, deader and I don't care for the front heavy draw cycle) and all are slower still. So this year my choice will be my RPM 360. They need a Traverse or Vertix with a 7" brace height and I would have been sold. Hunting in cold weather, the 6" brace heights have a tendency to grab a sleeve.. I still love my old Mathews Switchback XT. It'll forever be my back up bow.

Good thoughts! I think the 6 5/8" BH of the Traverse achieves a nice blend of speed/forgiveness. I loved my NoCam HTR, but it was a little slow with a heavier arrow setup I used for Elk. I hope to do a full review video after I get a chance to do some real world shooting with it! Thanks for the comment!

I have shot Mathews bows for years and am admittedly a die hard fanboy. I like the company and their values a lot and have liked their bows too. However, if I’m honest, I like the bowtech realm ss the most of all bows offered this year, last year it was the realm x. The sr6 is sweet too. I haven’t owned anything but a Mathews in 7+ years, but I’m considering buying a bowtech. Just a tough pill to swallow to spend an extra $100 on a bare bow that’s not a Mathews. Still thinkin on it. Thanks for the video, God bless!

The only negative for the Traverse is it weighs 4.7 pounds. Really? If you can't handle a 4.7 pound bow, how are you going to hump the Elk off the mountain? Or get the deer out of the woods? One of the better inventions they have for handling the weight is called a gym. There are plenty of nice bows out there. Ultralight has it's consequences. The Traverse is an amazing bow to shoot. Your milage may vary.
@MichaelMiddletonTBH
@MichaelMiddletonTBH 4 жыл бұрын
Bill Campbell thank you for the comment. Did you listen to the rest of the explanation or just key in on that? It’s heavy relative to lighter bows. “”Its not super heavy, but also not in the ‘ultralight’ category.” I also mentioned it was “somewhat by design” and that I would “sacrifice a bit of weight” for quietness. I’m a HUGE fan of the Traverse (favorite bow I've owned, so far). I hiked 59.6 miles in Colorado last year with it in hand (this year’s NM archery hunt was much less strenuous! Be sure To check out that video, as well!) Again, thanks for the feedback! Stay tuned for another Mathews bow review coming very soon!
@billcampbell1627
@billcampbell1627 4 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelMiddletonTBH Oh I listened to the entire article. The entire article was positive, and stated if he had to have a negative it would be the weight. Weight is relative. If you are already carrying 300 pounds of gear, one more light weight gadget sucks. But just by itself a bow of otherwise positive reviews should not be considered negative and be under 5 pounds. Lightweight and speed seem to be the latest hot topics. Then we put stabilizers, wrist slings, and other do dads to make it "better". Just my opinion, your milage may vary.
@MichaelMiddletonTBH
@MichaelMiddletonTBH 4 жыл бұрын
@@billcampbell1627 your point is valid regarding stabs, back bar stabs, and everything else we add to the bow. I probably should have added “if I’m nitpicking...” instead of stating it’s a negative. To some degree (as stated) it’s a positive in terms of quietness, reduced hand shock, and ability to hold better. Anyway-, new announcement coming from Mathews in just a couple of hours! Stay tuned! Thanks for the discussion.

@Boxing 101 Like I said, matter of opinion. The Triax is a great bow. 60 and 70 yards 4 inch groups. The string angle is fine for for me. All tho I'm only set at 28". The Vertix is a Halon 6 with extras. The Vertix is nice a bow, but not worth buying. When I own a Halon 6 and a Triax. The grip on the Vertix sucks. A grip shouldn't suck you in to only where it positions your hand. I'm glad you like your Vertix. Enjoy it.

In fact, as we alluded to in the video, Tim shoots a Hoyt (while co-workers Alyse and Kelton shoot Bear and Mathews, respectively.) As I've mentioned several times, there are a lot of great bows for 2019. This was simply a comparison of two from Mathews. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment! ;)b

Dean Cubbedge I don’t use the felt on mine anymore. The squeak is annoying for sure but probably imperceptible to animals. It was more annoying for me. When I ran out of it, I just started going without. There is still a sound but it’s just the sound of the arrow sliding across the rest. It’s slight and not a big deal to me but it may be a dealbreaker for a whitetail hunter, which I am not.

The Hoyt carbon bows are not noisy.

Relative to the Traverse and Vertix shown here, the RX3 I heard was SIGNIFICANTLY louder. I’m not bashing on Hoyt, but generally heavier bows absorb more sound and vibration than lighter bows. Thanks for the comment.

Hoyt isn't a loud bow. I shoot Mathews. I own a Halon 6 and a Triax. I know a heavier bow is more quiet and less hand shock. Still Hoyt isn't a real loud bow. The Vertix draws and feels like the Halon 6 on the shot. Triax is a better bow. I want the TX5. Also a 75% keeps you honest and more accurate. One day I will.buy the 75% modules. Lol The guy says too heavier lol 2 oz to 3 oz isnt that much. Maybe he should shoot a old onieda. Lol

Mathews Triax fair enough. But, I stand by the comment that the Hoyt is louder than the two Mathews compared here. I haven’t shot the TX5, but it’s definitely aggressive! I’m not sure I’d be confident enough to shoot it in uncontrolled hunting situations.

Michael Middleton TBH already bought the Vertix this year. It’s smooth, dead quiet and 0 hand shock and it puts the arrows down range. Amazing bow!!!

I wouldn't give my Triax up for one of these two bows. The guys is nuts. The Triax is a very forgiving bow.

Zbych Zbychowski that’s true. As mentioned, it’s not super heavy, but not exactly considered light, either. I haven’t researched, but I’d be curious to see how the weights stack up between various bows.👍

@@MichaelMiddletonTBH i think mathews Models are just Perfect in Price vs performance , not so explosive experience like bowtech and beter quality than pse and not so overpriced like hoyt, i have traverse with no regrets best bow i have try for last 8 years ( i start my bow adventure 2011)

Although I’ve never actually shot a BT, I know they make good bows. But why do you think I should “get a bowtech” other than because it’s what you shoot? Simply a fanboy response?
@pennsylvaniaoutdoorsmen1669
@pennsylvaniaoutdoorsmen1669 5 жыл бұрын
It is not simply a fanboy response, I can go very full into depth but it might be a little much for youtube comments, but i’ll type it out, although the traverse and vertix are a GREAT shooting bow, BT’s new technology is incomparable. The speed produced but the Realm SR6 with how smooth the draw cycle is, is unbelievable, and to me, the quality of the bow matters, but the customer service matters just as much, with me working in an archery shop for some time now I have just had too many bad experience with Mathews, BT is the easiest company I have worked with, that is why I shoot for BT.

@@pennsylvaniaoutdoorsmen1669 Fair enough. Thanks for elaborating. I've had pretty good luck with Mathews CS, but I don't deal with them frequently.

I had to wait 3 months for a Traverse, and before I ordered the Traverse I only shot the Mathews 2019 line, and when my bow finally came they sent me a Vertix which frustrated me after waiting so long, and the CS just wasn’t as helpful as I hoped, then I shot the Realm SR6 and ordered one immediately, received it in 2.5 weeks, and started flinging arrows with it.

@@pennsylvaniaoutdoorsmen1669 I hate to hear you had issues. That would be frustrating. It sounds like Mathews lost an opportunity to gain a loyal customer. I honestly have never shot a BT, but I know several that do and they love them. In the hands of a capable shooter, most any bow will get the job done! It sounds like you've got that covered. Thanks for the conversation!
