2019 MG ZS Review! New Motoring

There are plenty of SUVs around, from the Peugeot 3008 to the Nissan Qashqai, but all of them are, well, quite expensive... But the MG ZS is an SUV that costs less than basic Ford Fiesta. How's that for value?

I’ve just ordered one of these as a work car for trawling between schools, thus keeping the mileage off my main car. From the test drive I can say it’s quiet, has a lovely ride and the body roll is not excessive. Point is, you don’t expect a tall car like this to handle dynamically. It’s made for space and comfort. They’re also very well made & solid feeling. Also, not mentioned in the video is the 7 year warranty. Makes this car a sound purchase. Oh, and I got 48.5mpg on an 8 mile test drive. I so wanted to love the new Dacia Duster, but the MG is so much nicer!

Excellent well balanced review. This is actually selling very well for MG and they are following up with an electric version in the autumn. MG are now selling more cars in the UK than Smart, Jeep, Subaru, Alfa Romeo and Lexus. And are closing in on Mitsubishi and (incredibly) Fiat as that company's sales are tanking.

Hi sir! Is it normal for MG ZS Manual Transmission to be having a subtle or minor rattling or knocking sound everytime u change gears? Kindly help me be enlightened about this - if its normal or not. Thanks! I am hoping to know ur comments or idea about such.

I don't know whether the general public are ok with this model. If there are any issues esp. performance, there's a ZS EV but with huge lump of price tag. If you're an absolute tight arsed with your budget getting a brand new car, this model should be fine. However you'll have to put up with refinement and performance issues. Build quality, can't complain esp. having a nice, rock solid quality. What you don't really want are things to fall out or become loose. I'm please that nothing have fallen off nor gotten loose on our ZS EV. We've got a ZS EV because it's the quietest, smoothest and ALSO the quickest (today's) ZS. Like I've said, you have choices whether if you have to put up with drawbacks of the "basic" ZS or simply spend a lot more with the ZS EV. To me, it makes sense to go EV for lots and lots of short drives but not every one are the same. Not only the ZS EV has the quickest 0 - 60 mph, 0 - 100 km/h but thanks to the instant torque off the electric motor, you have power anytime and anytime in the real world. The "basic" ZS is surely a good buy though.

In China , 1.0t engine combines 6 speed Automatic gearbox, I don't know why SAIC use 6DCT gearbox to equip that car in the UK.

For the fuel economy. DCT's are about 10% better on fuel than conventional automatics plus you get faster gear shifting.

Bought the 2018 ZS Essence but drove the 2019 model while mine was again in the Service Dept, would stay away from the car, have had nothing but issues with this car. stability Control Issues even after Product Recall. Steering is much worse since then when it happens. Radio stopped working, screen blacks out even after its been replaced, the car wasn’t grounded properly. And the Apple CarPlay doesn’t work properly, in my opinion it is t worth the money. The cost is to high.

Its not right to quote prices for the base spec model with steel wheels and cloth interior - when you're clearly driving the Exclusive model with leather interior and diamond cut alloys that is about 17k

The only ZS that really have pace is the ZS EV! Not only it has better (so to say) 30 - 50 mph or 0 - 100km/h but it also have power anywhere and anytime in the real world all thanks to the electric motor's instant torque. Heck, even a Subbie WRX, old Honda Integra and a dirt bike struggled to pass our ZS EV.

MG's a re actually RELIABLE since the Chinese took them over. Can't say that for their last owner (BMW)
