Mine takes about 4 hours to charge from empty from the mains. Here we have 240.volt mains in our houses. My petrol bills have gone from £250 per month to £40 per month. The drive is wonderful. The seats are comfortable and the older display on mine is better and simpler and distracts you less when driving. There is nothing bad to say about it. It is quiet even when the battery has run out. The best car I have ever had.

I bought one of these (in the US) earlier in the year. I wanted something hybrid that I could use to take into the mountains for family outings. It came down to the Outlander PHEV or the RAV4 hybrid. I chose the Outlander because 90% of my driving is a daily 20 mile round trip commute to and from work (plus, my work has free-to-employees L2 electric charging). In the month of May, I used about half a US gallon of gas and 131 kWh of mostly-free electricity. That's it. This car exceeds my expectations on the eco front. I agree with your comments about the interior quality (and quirkiness). Everything is very solid and well done. The paddles are fantastic. I actually performed my own StraightPipe-esque visor test when I was looking to buy the car. :) The trunk cupholders are hilarious (if not frustrating because the cup holders for the seats they did keep are pathetic). Overall, I love my car. Thanks for the review.

I bought a GT 10 months ago. It is super economical because I do short trips and plug in at home and at work (2L/100 KM). I agree with the reviewers on the beeping and quirky controls. As far as styling goes, to me it looks like most other SUV's. You don't buy a SUV for styling or handling really. If you have to compensate for a physical inadequacy by a Mustang GT, haha. There are very few new vehicles at a reasonable price that are worth lusting after. They all look like jelly beans. It is great in the snow but the battery range drops 10 KM in a Vancouver winter. Big pluses are EV parking, free charging, HOV lane access and gas tax avoidance.

@@naruhinafoever Mitsubishi dealer I spoke to on Friday says "fev." Obviously varies by locations. Friends of mine bought one last year and love it. I agree with most of the review here though. Styling is nothing to write home about, but it's comfortable enough, and there's no range anxiety. The back end of it is rather cavernous with the 3rd row folded down. The Eclipse Cross has more style, but the extremely high console between the front seats is insanely uncomfortable for my right knee. The Outlander was much more comfortable. Was surprised there was no mention of Mitsu's warranty. The 10/160,000 powertrain on their vehicles is quite good.

Owner of a 2012 Outlander GT here, I am appalled by how accurate that review is. 😬 Joking aside, this is an everyday car as they say. Non flashy, forgettable. Even my 2012 with a vanilla 3.0 liters V6. It has decent power, but it handles like shit. Well like a regular plain old SUV I guess. Or should I say UV since it’s not remotely sporty. Love the cargo capacity though and the clamshell trunk opening, which Mitsubishi dropped surprisingly after 2013. 🤦🏼‍♂️ But, 7 years and counting and not one single mechanical or electrical issue to mention. TCO is pretty good actually. Just trying to find more positives here.

@@soiceyboy33 Same here. 2012 XLS and that tailgate sold me. I"m also a Subaru driver and bought this thinking the AWD system would be comparable but in the snow it's got nothing on Subaru. Still, it can tow 3500lbs which no subaru could at the time, it looks awesome, the sound system is amazing and in that era it was the only thing with paddles. @@neilnoseworthy3554 Agreed. The new one has almost no competitive advantage except for price. Almost all it's competitors do what it does better in some way. At least in 2010, it was unique with the split tailgate and real magnesium paddle shifters. Now, it's just like every other SUV out there
@jasonk19xx17

@@neilnoseworthy3554 I have a 2007 XLS, which is the same except for the nose. Almost zero issues with it after 167,000 miles, and outside regular maintenance, I've replaced the radiator and that's it. Time to replace the car, and I probably will get this PHEV (even thought I hate the turbine wheels -- take a look at the 2018 wheels; they make the car look so much better). They are a steal in the U.S. (probably because nobody's buying them), and in the month of September 2020 there's a $7,000 manufacturer rebate. Stack that with a $2,000 loyalty credit, $1,000 trade assistance, your trade value and the $5800 federal tax credit, and I'm looking at about $21,000. For a new GT. I am concerned that the company exits the U.S., and then I have no warranty and am stuck with a high-tech car that nobody knows how to service. At the same time, Mitsubishi leaving the U.S. has been a concern for at least a decade, and they're still here.

What changed my mind is taking one for a test-drive with an open mind. I thought the technology aspect of it was great, it’s a decent size for a small family with kids, and the interior works for a commuter car. The fact that it can tow 1500lbs is great, although more than likely I’d just use it for a bike carrier or cargo carrier. I really don’t care about the brand, but this vehicle is pretty cool even with all of it’s quirks. I daily drive a tuned VW GTI, but I think I may pick this up for family duty.

I totally agree that I never seen a car beeping that much. To start with, it actually says in the instructions that when you start the car, it actually beeps eight times or so for reminding everyone to use seatbelts. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ I hate that. I own this car and I never hear when there are serious alarms, because it always beeps. Always. It’s also annoying how difficult it is to make it drive completely on electricity. There should be a force button, that simply turns of everything that stops the electric driving. Another annoying thing is that there’s just one closing handle on the trunk-lid, placed all the way out to the right. I always have to park against a wall, and I constantly have to stand on the right side of the vehicle to close the lid, or I have to touch the dirt to close it. Because mine is closed manually. Now the worst part, and this is something people should sue Mitsubishi for. Being able to control the heating from my window was one of the absolute most important functions for me. But listen to this insane solution they have: To use the app for this, you have to switch to the cars wifi-which does nothing more than control the charge or heating/cooling. That is INSANE! It’s such a work to have to switch from home wifi to the cars wifi every day for doing these things. Walking out to the car goes way faster. If that helped, but you can’t open the car and manuall start the heating or cooling. You can only set a timer for it. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ Anyway, since the cars wifi is so incredibly bad anyway, my iPhone 11 Pro can’t connect to it unless I stand next to the car. I can’t believe they build such a good and expensive car and fail S O B A D at these things. All those things that should make my daily life more comfortable, they just don’t work! Can anyone recommend a solution so at least the phone can connect with the car when I’m looking at the car outside the window?

I brought a new Evo X in 2008 they had five on the lot. I feel now like that was some golden heyday like when people imagine what it must’ve been like to walk onto a Plymouth lot back in 1970 and see Roadrunners and Cudas. Mitsubishi will be relegated to the sub-500 FICO crowd until they recapture that true enthusiast market.

I just leased the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV to replace a Hyundai Tuscon and add to a 2016 Tesla Model S 90D for my growing family. For what it is, I love this car and when you actively use the regen paddles you can really squeeze even more mileage out of the EV. I was able to do 51 km yesterday with the first part of the trip being a winding downhill to Lake Ontario and hills coming back. When you regen brake your brake lights don't come on like they do with the Tesla. At first I kept the regen at B5 but there are a variety of ways to coast and use all the different levels for traffic, highway and to lean into turns which reduces the body roll on sharper turns (very similar to using regen on a Stealth Electric Bombet ebike and then throttle on the whip). Another main reason why I love this car vs the Tesla is a complete reduction in range anxiety. With all the Model 3s out there it's getting more difficult to go to a super charger, especially in Port Hope on a weekend for longer road trips east towards Montreal. Winters are brutal for Teslas as well, cold soaked voltage sag every day. Yes, I can't beat P1s off the line at intersections anymore but not would I want to with kids in the back. The bottle holders in the back are great for when you use the 1500 w plug in the trunk for outdoor induction cooking or when you need quick access to drinks while the trunk is open and kids are biking in an empty parking lot. The interior feels good as well. A model x was a consideration but suffers from the same range anxiety as all EVs at the moment. Level 2 chargers don't do much for Teslas. Only thing that kind of sucks with the PHEV is that the car must be turned off when at a charger vs Tesla allowing you to sit in your car during the winter or summer. I agree with you guys on the amount of custom energy selection...extremely helpful when I know I'm going to idle later and press the save button at 9 km of EV remaining. When idle with AC, the battery usage is in line with the Model S. Pressing the charge button provides an insanely fast charge at the expense of overall fuel economy but great if you know you're going to be stuck in traffic later in the day or maybe need battery power for a tailgate cook out.

This review sums up pretty much what any lay-person thinks when driving a Mitsubishi for the first time. They get in it thinking it's going to be cheap, janky garbage and are pleasantly surprised when they experience well put together, comfortable, competent car. My 2012 v6 Outlander still runs, drives and looks like it was new. For me, Mitsubishi strikes the perfect balance between comfort, capability, economy, reliability and fun. It's easily the best vehicle I've owned. Sure, it's not the best at any one of those things, but the balance is just right IMHO. I've considered trading it in for something different recently and even test driven a couple other vehicles but nothing else seems to strike that balance the same way. I'm probably going to drive mine until the wheels fall off (which may be a while still) and then happily replace it with another Mitsubishi.

In the process of buying one now in Australia. Prev car is a gen3 Prius (2010) whose battery died early, Toyota were really not great about it, long story. This car comes with an 8 year 160,000km battery warranty here so that gives me confidence. Looks aren't great, it's slower than the Prius when accelerating, but I'm buying it because it's a phev, not to win the Dakar Rally. Was super happy to see Google maps show up on the car infotainment screen through Android Auto! Great quality interior, doors shut with a good thud, not a huge fan of the front, I actually like that it doesn't have all kinds of bends on the side, and the rear (I'm 37). Drives great, adaptive cruise control is sensational. And there's really nothing else out there to compete. Sure it's got things to criticise but if EV capability matters to you (personally I'll never buy a straight ICE car again, so like any other SUVs that are ICE I don't even see as options, feels like 20 year old cars with booking and Bluetooth)... Seems like a great choice. Plus I got last year's model on an amazing deal!

This is a pretty good review guys.... although there is a lot of mis-facts that show you guys really just read a brochure. MOST people are seeing closer to 60km of range. The 35km quote is more of a minimum. Understanding that the buyers for this vehicle are looking for economy and not sportiness would be important too. hahah. Don't get me wrong, I would not call this thing sporty by any means but driving a 15 km loop and only using 2 km's of electric energy is enough for most people to save themselves the $33000 difference to any other vehicle that is being made. Regarding your quotes about the "number one selling" - It is in fact the number one selling PHEV... not #1 selling all wheel drive PHEV.. so that really does open up the "competition." I appreciate the humor and honesty in how you are feeling the vehicle, so thank you for that. I just wished someone gave you guys a rundown on the vehicle before just hopping into it and going for a burn.

I had the 2016 PHEV, which I really liked - despite the lack of battery range. Naturally I took the 2019 PHEV for a test drive as I was considering replacing it with basically the same car. But it doesn’t drive the same, and the steering was not as responsive. Also two other issues... GPS has been removed, and they did not extend the battery range. What was positive?... it prompted me to buy a full EV instead. I’d totally recommend the PHEV as a stepping stone to a full EV. But Mitsubishi really need to get a full EV out soon... it would totally do well in the EV SUV market.

Here down under Mitsubishi Lancers (not the EVO but these are also being discontinued now) are a very common car. Cheap and reliable. My wife has a Mitsubishi ASX and I am pleasantly surprised by the manufacturer. Mitsubishi puts their money in a lot of key areas that matter such as engine and transmission timings. Also, they were the first to offer a 7 year warranty and I am always pleasantly surprised by the great reverse camera that is actually really easy to use for parking (although low res). The problem with Mitsubishi is that to keep the cost down you have a lot of hard plastics in their non-premium versions so their cars feel cheap and my biggest problem with their SUVs is how much body roll I experience and how much play there is in the steering wheel. Other than that the car mechanically (were it matters) feels like something that will last for a very long time provided you take care of it.

You get between 35 - 60 km purely on electric depending on different conditions and drive style. Normally, I would say between 40-45 km summer time and 30-35 km winter times. Figures for MY2018. 2019 has a bit larger battery but I think it is just matters of some km extra. Probably easier to reach 45-50km range. This is real figures from an owner. I think the most intersting part is long driving. Then I get 6.8 l/100 km, but usually when fueling up next time, I have driven on electric which means, I usually get around 3.0 l/ 100 km, I use Save and Charge when I am on highway driving to town most of the time. The car has lowered my cost by at least ⅔. which I think is great.
