I don't think the Nacra 15 is a boat for 12 year olds. But I think you should be allowed to sail as a youth until you are 25. Being forced to switch from one boat to the next as a youth sailor makes the sport also more expensive and it harms the classes. There is a reason why the optimist is so successful, you can sail it from 4 until you are 15. How long the teams stay in the N15? 2 years until the switch or stop sailing?

I just got a Nacra 430 as a second boat however I also think anyone has the right to sail whatever. I started on a optimus and these people probably did too however found them boring and moved to lasers not long after

The 12 years old boy is now sailing nacra 17, moth, 69f and is a world champion in f16 and youth nacra 15... anyone should be allowed to compete at any age.

@@rbpt__4136 Congratulations! But I still think it's not responsible to let kids (teen starts at 13) compete in a fast catamaran class. I've competed about 10 years and witnessed at least three close calls and major injuries. It's the decision of the parents but in my opinion it's not worth the risk for a title nobody cares outside the sailing bubble. Not even sailors care, maybe a few people at your own club or in the class. Soon after you stoped sailing nobody knows your name anymore, no matter what you've reached. Worth it?

@@born2sail the kid in the video is thomas proust, his father is world champion so he grew up sailing fast boats and I think he had as much experience in sailing this kind of boat as a 16 - 17 years old sailor. I don't know him apart from videos of him but he always had a bit of talent (he was sailing a moth at 10) ... It's not the optimal age but I think it should only depend on the sailor level.
