If you're lucky, you can catch them live! Their website has live feeds from three different vantages, usually, one being the screen everyone sees, a room where they look at retrieved samples, and one is the outside of the nautilus from further back than the main camera so it doesnt get a light.

yea they are probably trying to infuse some of this into movies, documentaries, books etc. so they dont want to give it all out for free to that extent. i feel lucky they live stream it even. but during expeditions, at the end of the days dive they usually rerun the days adventure on the 3rd camera. as far as a complete backup of all the livestreams im not sure about.
@ImaStarboy252
@ImaStarboy252 5 жыл бұрын
the full 8hr+ adventures are amazing to sleep to so ive tried to find complete streams and would like access also, but theres all the behind the scenes and copyright etc. going on so who knows and i think they deserve to sell as much of it as they need to books, documentaries, movies, magazines, etc. i understand why they wouldnt upload full livestreams for monetary purposes, or just logistical purposes and how long and how much space it takes to hold a 5hr-10hr live stream. holding it themselves and providing it to the public takes up space and then try to upload that to youtube probably takes a very long time and it probably wont get a lot of views so they edit it down to get to the point and try to provide something they think people will actually watch. most people wont watch hours long streams or videos but i would

Out of all of this, you may be surprised that my favorite is the crabs in the mid-column. Before I became addicted to EVNautilus a few seasons ago I only thought of crabs as something I saw on the beach. I imagined them only on the bottom at whatever depth the bottom was. Whenever I see them in the water column I think of them as jazz jiggity crazy pranksters and it makes me so happy. They're just floating there! I imagine them going, _wheeeeeeee!_ The last (second?) and very deceptive dumbo was a close second. Also a bit of a merry prankster.

Yeah I also read somewhere that every deep sea animal that gets recorded with those bright lights will be immediately permanently blind because their eyes are way too sensitive for those lights. Edit: I did find a source here: montereybay.noaa.gov/research/techreports/trkochevar1998.html "It is clear that the current state of knowledge is insufficient to devise a sound management policy for the use of artificial lights in the deep sea. However, available information suggests that deep sea fauna may be affected by exposure to bright artificial lights, underlining the need for research on this topic." so it doesn't seem to be as bad as whatever it was i read but might still be true for some creatures.

@@Tosti_Tory The key here is "I read somewhere". If you don't know for a fact, then don't talk about it. That's how 90% of misinformation is spread on the internet, because people "read something somewhere" and then go around and tell others and nobody actually verifies the research. Please don't be one of those people :)

1. We should try not to harm any animals we're studying. 2. I'd say having to harm animals in the pursuit of knowledge is acceptable. Especially considering the tremendous harm animal agriculture is causing all ecosystems. Complain about that first, it's just not comparable.
@vinny5638
@vinny5638 5 жыл бұрын
@@Pyriphlegeton That's a ridiculous proposition. "Ignore the harm caused by this field because of harm caused in another entirely irrelevant field" This is just you moving the goalpost in order to justify the harm caused by an exploritive effort you enjoy, which is lazy because you tacitly accept a method of exploration that could be outfitted to accomodate the more gentle conditions of the deep, dark sea. We all know there are bigger and better problems, but that doesnt' invalidate this one.

Really cool sea life in the deep. And I bet that there is still more to discover what new species may be found in these regions of the deep where the pressure is greater than above the surface and water temperature below freezing. Than again, it makes you think how fascinating nature can be. Just hope that one day an encounter with the Sperm Whale vs. the Giant Squid will finally be captured live in their natural habitats where both predators show of their powerful strengths. Its all in the name of STEM.

i love these videos so much, because it sounds like a bunch of stoners looking at crazy species. "its like a bloated squid, with tiny arms and a little hat on its head" "whoa..."

Any idea on what that squid with the feather appendage on the top of its head was?

Asperoteuthis mangoldae, they have a video just about it a couple back. This was apparently the first time it had been seen alive.
