Over four months, the 2020 Nautilus Expedition took our team and partners from British Columbia to Southern California for hundreds of hours of deep-sea ROV dives and thousands of kilometers of seafloor mapping. Returning to octopus nurseries and a decomposing whale fall, observing towering hydrothermal vents and bubbling methane seep fields, and comparing colonies of deep-sea corals and sponges were just a few of the incredible encounters included in this year's highlights.
An oceanwide thank you to our partners, science teams and contractors, the Nautilus ship's crew, and all of the students, educators, and viewers who joined us on Nautilus Live. Major expedition sponsors for the 2020 Nautilus Expedition include NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research, NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, and Ocean Networks Canada. Stay tuned for more highlights from our season, and join us again in spring 2021 as we launch our next expedition!
-----------------------------
E/V Nautilus is exploring unknown regions of the ocean seeking out new discoveries in biology, geology, and archaeology. Join us 24/7 for live video from the seafloor and to ask questions of our explorers currently aboard Nautilus: www.nautiluslive.org.

13:13 looks like a cookie-cutter shark bite, but I'm not sure the exact size of the fish bitten or even its species, where they dive in comparison to each other either either. So really I have absolutely no idea, but it's a possibility.

the 2 things that always astonish me the most is the amount of sea snow drifing everywhere & the fact that all this is normally in near absolut darkness! would love to "see" all this with ultra sensitive cameras & no flood lights!... i mean most of the creatures downs there do have eyes to see something, dont they?!

In the ocean, does light affect the creatures? Up high in the water level I would assume more creatures have light sensors, but eventually the light disappears the deeper one goes. I'm wondering if the light is a distraction to them or not.

There are many unknown areas, unknown creatures, and unknown dangers in the sea. Although people are actively exploring the deep sea, there are still many places that cannot be reached. I hope we can live in harmony with marine life when exploring, without destroying their life and environment

I feel that I would never go diving or swimming in a pool or a body of water after 40 feet but that doesn't mean I don't find the marine archaeology interesting if only I wasn't so scared
@Eidako
@Eidako 3 жыл бұрын
@@keenul4998 The depth of water is irrelevant as far as swimming goes. The human body is mostly water with air-filled lungs, so even holding perfectly still in fresh water, its natural position is to bob with the head just above the waterline. You could have the Mariana Trench below you, you wouldn't sink into it (sans concrete shoes). More concerning are, in order of priority: 1) oceanic turbulence, it's a lot harder to stay above water when being thrown around by waves, 2) hypothermia thanks to extremely cold water, and 3) the things IN the water with you. Regardless of how you feel about sharks, there's still jellyfish, cone snails, blue-ringed octopus, sea snakes, horny dolphins, Cthulhu, Godzilla...

I’m surprised how few and far between plants are creatures are from each other. When I think of undersea I think of lots of seaweed, other plants like fields and forest. That’s how little I know. Spent much time of my dads boat when young, summers at the beach so I guess around the wharf, marshy shore, closer to shore it’s was more dense , then again that was 45 years ago.

Question; I cant help but notice how much less diverse and empty looking the seas appear when compared to Cousteau's various films.
