How about the new Cavalla two speed? Price is Right. Mak15ii is the most versatile reel I own so I'm with you on the smaller makairas.

@CharkBaitUSA 5 жыл бұрын
The new Cavalla will be the replacement for the Metaloid series. These will begin coming into inventory over the next month or so I believe. We did receive a single unit from Okuma, more to follow. The actual production was different from what we evaluated (and tried to break) a few months ago. The new piece is much more like the existing Metaloid in terms of weight and overall feel. Different cosmetics, lost the helical cut gears. Will be a nice series, just a tad more expensive than the prior series.

SIlver did come back after a year plus as a standard color, however blue w/silver did not nor did black though both sold out early. Now we have a flat black w/silver - it will not be part of a standard production, count on it. Okuma does one run, as a dealer I have to belly up to the bar and place our order - the only order which the manufacturer will honor. Once gone, they are indeed gone. Multiple colors are not something dealers or manufacturers want to stock, ties up a lot of money and these are not $100 reels. Yes, Avet tries to do this, that's what makes that firm unique, but it also hurts them in terms of their own inventory load and dealer support. No manufacturer and no retailer can truly afford to hold stock of this level of cost as a standard part of their basic inventory.

Thanks for the information. It is helpful. Is the older gold Makaira still available and how do they compare with these newer models?
@CharkBaitUSA
@CharkBaitUSA 5 жыл бұрын
The gold series is current, won't be changed anytime soon. The larger sized SEA reels offer a lower low gear. The SEA series also will have a larger knob on the handle. The bearings used on the gold series are better suited to a person putting a lot of hours on the reel, they are shielded vs OPEN bearings used on the SEA series for greater freespool performance - which isn't a major consideration in the trolling application for which the gold series were designed. If you fish long range, live bait, go SEA. If you are a private boater or charter operator who puts in serious hours trolling go gold. The open bearings will require more servicing over time while the shielded bearings won't require the same level of maintenance. Hope this covers it, covered some of the same ground on an earlier vid I made up a few years back.

@@CharkBaitUSA Sir, i am getting a 50wii for mainly shark fishing using a drone or kayak to get big baits out from the side. (Off a beach or rocks)Would you go for the Gold or Sea?
@CharkBaitUSA
@CharkBaitUSA 4 жыл бұрын
@@ruanjacobs9900 Both are very good, scratch that, excellent reels. Both can work for you well on the sharks. Gearing may be a benefit on the SEA's, lower low gear. The bearings will need more maintenance as time goes on, given they're open and not sealed. Not a huge deal for what you are doing unless you plan on getting the reel soaked. Of course freespool performance better on SEA's, that benefits you IF you flyline a bait (live).

Can you do a video on the new cavalla series vs andros. Why did they get rod of the cast control? Great Videos Thanks
@CharkBaitUSA
@CharkBaitUSA 5 жыл бұрын
Will do once they come out fully. We'll see an Andros replacement after the first of the year, with the Cavalla series replacing Metaloid series. That's expected between now and October. Expectation, we'll lose helical cut gears, increase price a bit, perhaps see a very modest weight reduction.
@ecesarchavez
@ecesarchavez 5 жыл бұрын
CharkBaitUSA that’s great to hear, I had heard the we’re replacing Android, but glad they are not. The andros are so flexible to so many fishing types for the size. I all but stopped using my Trinidad’s and use my 2 andros for bait fishing yellowtail, sea bass and small to medium sized tuna. Awesome reels

@@ecesarchavez I'm with you, I own the first generation 5NII and 5II - love 'em both. The newer versions had some positives. At present I'm not sure if the Andros name will be kept or if Okuma will re-name the series, again that replacement isn't planned until 2020.

Mark that's for posting. I've bought several combos from you and now I'm thinking of a MAK 30ii SEA for trolling on one of the multi-day boats here in So. Florida. Mainly it'll troll for wahoo and an occasional YFT. But I also want to use it for a LR trip out of San Diego, and even take it down to Central America for BFT. Do you recommend the 30 or smaller? I'm thinking 100# braid?
@CharkBaitUSA
@CharkBaitUSA 3 жыл бұрын
Several of the Makaira models can cover 100# application. Long range, I'd like to see 600 yds of braid on the reel, then run wind-on leaders of 25'. For trolling duty, more mono would be needed, and that would be a disadvantage LR fishing. The 16/20/30 are all based on same reel really, just difference in size. So, all could cover 100#, but the 20 hits the nail on the head LR. The 30 may be a bit more versatile for your needs, just as a 16 might be all a person needs for trips of 8 days down...except for the big bluefin that have been hanging off our SoCal coast for the past seven years...

Not so easy a choice. You might want to check our video on long range cow reels - 50's, Avet, Penn, Okuma Makaira. Both the Avet and Makaira are very good long lasting, high performing reels. Avet's design is older, and in some respects the foundation of where Okuma looked when creating the Makaira series. I'd say the Maks are more refined and a bit higher end in terms of freespool and overall performance. I'll suggest the Avet's are far more than adequate, I'm still fishing my own 50's I bought in 2005! The reels are robust, reliable, built like tanks. Avet offers an industry standard 1 year warranty, Makairas carry a 5 year warranty. Both have excellent factory service. Either way you go you're getting great gear..

Hello Mark, what are the differences between the II SEA and just the plain Makairas?
@CharkBaitUSA
@CharkBaitUSA Жыл бұрын
There are three main differences: -The low gear is typically lower on the SEA's. -Bearings are different as is their lubrication to improve freespool performance. That's a benefit for live bait fishing and/or casting. -The knob/handle is upgraded to what's offered on the standards by one model up for greater cranking power.

What's the deal with the sticky drag on the 80w makaira? Is that an issue with reel, drag not set correctly, or maintenance?
@CharkBaitUSA
@CharkBaitUSA Жыл бұрын
I've not heard directly from anyone regarding what you mention, not a peep. BUT, I have noted some posts on social media (always a bit suspect in my mind these days). Scanned bloodydecks for instance, saw same mentioned for Avet MXL Raptors... I"ll call out a simple solution, proper maintenance. I'll bet you dollars to donuts you have an accumulation of salt on your drag washer. Go ahead, open the reel up and clear out the salt and apply a VERY SMALL AMOUNT of Cal's Drag Grease on the washer. You'll be back to superb service from that reel. You also have an industry best FIVE YEAR WARRANTY from a class service dept. Take advantage of that benefit...which is four more years than other manufacturers.
@CharkBaitUSA
@CharkBaitUSA Жыл бұрын
As a caution or contributing factor: When you wash down your gear after fishing LOCK DOWN THE DRAG when you are applying water to the reel. Make use of some salt-x or similar product and rinse the reel. Once you've dried reel off with towel, now put the lever in freespool position and turn on the clicker so your spool won't rotate and cause an underwrap. Allow the reel to dry properly and then put her away. If you're not locking down the drag when you mist or spray the reel you can be forcing more salt into the reel and exasperating the problem you mention.

So I’m looking to add a 50 to my arsenal . A standard 50 for cows?
@CharkBaitUSA
@CharkBaitUSA 4 жыл бұрын
Unless it's kite or troll work, if you will be fishing at the rail primarily (and for private boat use I'd say the same) the standard 50 is the nicer piece to own verses the 50W. A 50 is more balanced on the rod, less tippy and holds the right amount of line for hunting cows.

What's the difference with the gold ones
@CharkBaitUSA
@CharkBaitUSA 3 жыл бұрын
Several, depends upon the model and this sort of information is available on our website: www.charkbait.com . The SEa versions have upgrade size of handle, bearings are different (open) allowing for greater freespool, lubricant different, gear ratio on certain models is different from standard. For a private boater who puts serious miles on the gear a case can be made for the gold reels given shielded bearings and less associated maintenance. Freespool still good on the golds, but the SEA's take it to another level and are best suited to those flylining a bait, long range style fishing.

Okuma makaira trolling it is possible to use also for jigging?
@CharkBaitUSA
@CharkBaitUSA 4 жыл бұрын
A person could, but these reels would probably not be what I'd suggest for jigging. Gearing is great for intended use, bait, troll, but a bit slow for what most would want for pure jigging application where speed of retrieve may be important in getting bit. Also, for a deep, deep drops I've found the amount of line per crank isn't where I'd personally want it - fishing my 10's, the 16 or 15T would work better given amount of line per crank. But, still I'd probably go a different direction for pure jigging use.

The aspect which is limited is the cosmetic treatment, the internals are all exactly the same. So, the parts that one might need replacing due to wear are no different.
