2019 Outback VS 2017 Outback

Excellent review!! I've got the 2018 version (older style) and was thinking about buying a 2023 model un-used but cheap (a guy bought one and never used it, all the parts still in plastic bags, not a scratch...). But I had a hard time finding anyone reviewing the stability and paddling differences. Everyone only reviews the details of what it comes with... Your buoyancy measurements help a lot!

I liked your hard work doing this review. I appreciate it and it is really helpful to understand the differences since I am about to buy a 2017. I fish in really rough pacific waters and landing on sand beach. It is really interesting to see the improvements made on the 2019.

Are you able to disclose where you had the anchor chute mount made for the 2017? Been looking all over and cannot find anything like the one on yours

Sorry. I somehow overlooked your comment when you posted it last year. My real job is in metal fabrication and tool design. I designed the anchor mount and had the flat aluminum piece cut in the laser department where I work. Then we formed it in the press brake department. The beauty of that mount is that it uses the same screws for the hatch lid so I don't need to drill any new holes in the kayak. I thought they would really take off and I would be able to sell some of them, but so far you were the only person interested. Thanks for watching.

Hi Again BBCastguy, Quick Questions about outback 2019: Did it come with the plastic part to protect the rudder? What's it weigh without peddle drive and seat? Thinking about what the weight will be when I put it on top of the SUV. thanks againDan

Hull weight is 85 lbs. Yes, it comes with the plastic rudder protector.

Great video. What do you think of the pa14? I can’t decide between pa or outback. I will fish some rivers with fast current. Can you paddle the pa?

The main and most important differences are in use at sea. The new version, which does not deserve the name "Outback", looks like an untamed donkey, rearing its stern and burying its bow in the water, exposing the short rudder and losing its steering ability.
