I know the end came down to a critical hit and everything, but personally I do think Davide made a big mistake at 35:00. He doubled into the Nihilego to protect his Xerneas, but he lost because Flavio's Xerneas was left on the field. Consider this other scenario, Davide doubles into the Xerneas with Moonblast and Double Edge. Xerneas most likely goes down, Salamence most likely dies to recoil, and then Nihilego probably takes out Davide's Xerneas with a poison type move. Seems worse initially, Davide loses both his Pokemon, but what's left is a 1v1 of Groudon vs Nihilego. On what planet does Nihilego win that? according to the castors Davide's Groudon is strong enough to survive a Continental Crash at full health, and we know from game 1 that Nihilego can't survive an Earth Power from Groudon. It basically guaruntees Davide's victory at that point. Targeting Xerneas instead of Nihilego just seemed like a much smarter and safer option to me.

you know in this turn youre discussing, the opposing xerneas uses protect also is an option to think of for davide, doubled the protecting xerneas and lost your xerneas to nihilego, the next turn u have a healthy nihilego +1 and healthy xerneas to deal with with only 1 turn left of tailwind, in this scenario im discussing, davide needs to pray an eruption and double edge could kill the xerneas since nihi is obviously going to protect and yeah this is just what other ending could end too so we cant really predict, correct me if im wrong anywhere

You may have forgotten that Nihilego would get a spA boost from taking out Xerneas, which would have meant he could click a +1 continental crush against the following Groudon, possibly baiting the protect by going for one of its own. It may have been another roll or a 50/50, but I'm pretty sure the groudon vs. nihilego situation was a bit more tricky than just Davide winning with earth power.

yes after this season ends (this current season is called "2019 Ultra-series". The next season will be on Pokemon sword and shield and wont be covering legendarys. this format will be called VGC20.

Im going to give you a piece of advice which is good for valuing competitive pokemon and any other kind of Art: the container does not matter, the content does matter. It's not "a groudon xd lol everybody use it", it's a special attacker groudon with a certain spread and built as a response to certain threats of the metagame. You must understand the complexity of the building process of a whole team to appreciate competitive pokemon, because this is not a showcase, this is not the anime where you see random pokemon fighting and you are happy. All these pokemon, different or not, all have a reused format of the same strategy, over and over. The sheer "competitiveness" is only depedent of whichever strategy was used on whoever at what time. Chloe Sexvigny 2019 is a legends format. Players are always going to use what gives them the best chance to win. Ban Pokémon and a new meta will form with certain Pokémon being the most used. There will always be a meta for people to complain about no matter what Pokémon are allowed

I hope the next season introducing Sword & Shield will be a bit more versatile. I always dislike those VGC formats where legendaries can be used. Though you have the biggest amount of Pokémon to choose from, you always see the same teams again and again. Maybe we're gonna have the regional Pokédex of the Galar region for the new VGC format.

That's how i think it usually is. When a new generation arrives, they stick to the regional Pokedex for the tournament. The year after, then they include the national pokedex. What I'm happy about is the literal switch (pun not intended) to the console. These 3DS graphics and performance are very outdated

His opponent still had the Nihilego and Rayquaza left alive in the back AND his opponent had light screen. So even if he killed them two without losing any hp he was gonna lose. Rayquaza could spam dragon ascent on Xerneas, weakening it so nihilego killed it the turn after with sludge bomb. Nihilego would use continental crush before incineroar could move and OHKO it. Xerneus wouldn't be able to kill any of the mons in one hit thanks to light screen and since Nihilego is poison type it would probably take 3 hits.
