Nice job with the video! I am going to add one to my 2019. Never knew about this issue until seeing it on the 5th Gen Rams Forum.

Best install video for a catch can I’ve come across. Thanks!

I’m going with an eBay oil catch can. Literally the same thing as these more expensive ones ie billet, mishimoto. All I gotta do is just buy new hoses from the auto parts store and done 😎 thanks for the installation video.
@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
I would do some research first on the one you buy though. Some of the cheaper catch cans don’t have any sort of baffle in the top part of them, so if you get a smaller catch can and it has no baffle then starts filling up with oil, the intake could potentially suck some of that oil into the intake. Just my .02. Good luck with install!
@IamChucky_4 жыл бұрын
Tony The Truck Guy yeah I been researching them for a week now lol boosted motorsports installed one on his ram and there’s another video I’ve seen with a side by side comparison of a mishimoto vs eBay and it’s literally identical.

Also billet tech says either fitting on the catch can is in OR out so really doesn’t matter. Whatever route the supplied line flows best is what I went with. My charger is completely opposite of my ram and both function fine.
@bossstrick Жыл бұрын
Hey tony I think that spare fitting was for the pcv end. You took the rubber boot off and pushed the line right onto it. I’m thinking the rubber boot stays like the other other line up front.

The z bracket is such a janky set up in my opinion, moves not matter how tight you make the bolt, I decided to go with the Mishimoto
@TonyTheTruckGuy6 ай бұрын
Yeah, it is a long bracket with a lot of leverage for that little bolt. Like you said, I was able to always move the bracket if I really wanted to, but that being said, it never moved around when I didn't want it to. I was going to go with the Mishimoto as well, but I had the Corsa CAI going on and I don't think I was able to run both.

Is a catch can recommended for a 2019 ram 1500 V6? I see them all the time for older rams or 5.7 hemi's. Thanks.
@TonyTheTruckGuy Жыл бұрын
Engine isn’t going to explode without it, but I like a catch can on any vehicle I plan to own for a long time just to keep the intake from getting gummed up. I’ll probably put one on my v6 Grand Cherokee in the spring.
@undagroundrican Жыл бұрын
@@TonyTheTruckGuy thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. Unfortunately I didn't step up to the big dog 5.7 Hemi. I was more concerned about saving some money at the pump. Pretty content with the V6 but nowhere on KZbin or on the forums do I see anyone installing one of these on a V6 model 5th gen Ram. Probably still going to install one though doesn't hurt.
@TonyTheTruckGuy Жыл бұрын
@@undagroundrican I feel like you don’t see them as much just because the v6 guys aren’t typically as “performance oriented”. There’s a few videos for the classic body style on v6 catch cans, but I’m guessing you have new body style.

My friend is a moose mechanic for 12 years now and he’s my mechanic for whatever I need aftermarket stuff. I así him about this cans and he said that they are gimmick. He said that every 60 milles he recommended a fuel injection cleaner with pressure and that shone enough to remove carbon and oil deposits from the piston and everything. He also said that new engines are very good at burning all that left over.
@TonyTheTruckGuy Жыл бұрын
They’re definitely not a gimmick. Catch cams stop all the oil from going back into your intake manifold and fuel injector cleaner can’t touch the manifold haha. I’m not saying an engine will blow up without it, or that you should go and spend $500 on one, but if you plan to keep a vehicle for a while then I’d recommend a cheap catch can for longevity, especially on boosted applications.

I was wondering if you know the length of both of the hoses. I have a same billet catch can that I had on my charger and was hoping the hose I have is going to be long enough.
@TonyTheTruckGuy3 жыл бұрын
The one that goes from the catch can to the intake under the throttle body measures about 9” the best I can measure it while on the truck with a tape measure, I think 8” would be enough. The longer one is about 22” but I think you could make it work with about 18”.

PCV vents gas whoch usually carries a hot oil steem along with which lubricats valves movement thrue the guides as well as a pistons lubrication.. Using catch can makes the above runs dry and brakes soon
@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
Hah, we will see about that. Old cars never had a PCV line running back to the intake. The valves and rockers still get plenty of lube from under the valve covers. This should literally have no affect.
@EverydayJ17863 жыл бұрын
Intake valves actually get constantly cleaned and lubricated by fuel spraying directly on them from the port injector . Imo catch cans are really only needed on gasoline direct injected engines where fuel does not ever touch the intake valve .There's no way PCV vapour will gum up the throttle body when it enters the intake after the throttle body .
@TheSuperhoitin3 жыл бұрын
@@EverydayJ1786 so is hemi v8 direct injection ?
@EverydayJ17863 жыл бұрын
@@TheSuperhoitin no the Hemi is not direct injected !
@WhalerGA3 жыл бұрын
@@EverydayJ1786 Sure it will. The oil does not burn cleanly when it enters the intake. It can leave carbon deposits and other gunk. It is much worse on direct-injected engines, but there is no harm in preventing it on regular port-injected engines.

@@ExiledtoVampa Yeah the S&B is just so huge. In hindsight, I would just put a K&N or other high flow drop-in filter in the factory air box. Best bang for the buck. You don’t even really get any more intake noise out of these because the cabins are so insulated and noise cancellation.

Dose anyone know if the mishimoto ones fit the 2019 classic 1500 ? Old body style

I would email them to find out. The 2019 no longer has a mechanical engine fan, and the Mishimoto bolts to the fan shroud. The trucks may have different fan shrouds.
