The 3.73 rear end seems to be the sweet spot for power and fuel economy. My engine spins at 2,000 rpm at 70, and PD power diesel’s HO 3500 with the 3.73 seems to be revving 400-500 rpms lower at the same speed. I honestly think the leaf sprung 3500 w/o bags feels smoother. Only because there’s always air in the bags, even when unloaded. If your fifth wheel is going to be the heaviest thing you’ll haul, in terms of payload, there’s no need for bags. Your truck doesn’t seem to sag all that much with your current rv. Good video bro! Always new crap to show us!
@knightwing45 жыл бұрын
Rubbed N' Tugged BBQ - I watch PD Diesel too. He said his new truck with air rides smoother than his old truck. The only thing that makes sense to me is maybe Ram is using a lighter spring on the air suspension. That’s what I would do.

Yea I agree I’m content with my setup and if I ever decided to tow something closer to my capacity I will just add aftermarket, the airlifts you told me about. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for making this video. I am looking at purchasing a 2019 Ram 3500 Big Horn without the rear air suspension. I am concerned about the ride quality without the airbags but from all of your videos, it seems as though the 3500 runs pretty well with just the standard rear suspension. Just want to make sure that when I’m not towing and just driving around town that I’m not getting bounced around.
@JB_WhoWork5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The truck rides very well for a 1 ton and I don’t find that the ride is bouncy at all! I do know the air suspension is suppose to help ride quality so I wouldn’t X it off the list until you drive both. After driving this truck, I’m still happy with my decision!

What was your impression of the Aisin shifting? I ordered a 2020 HO but now I'm seeing a lot of complaining on several forums about how slow the shifts are compared to the 68RFE.
@JB_WhoWork4 жыл бұрын
Check out the video I did on a 2019 Night Edition a few weeks ago driving a 68RFE. I own a Aisin and if I didn’t tow as much as I do, I would absolutely hate the Aisin. They have some work to do if they want to compete with Ford/Chevy but don’t let that discourage you because you didn’t buy the RAM to be a race truck!
@rjterry214 жыл бұрын
@@JB_WhoWork Thanks. I bought the truck to tow my fifth wheel & boat (at the same time). Seems there's a fairly recent TSB to improve the shifting. I've also seen some comment that they've caught themselves and others easing up on the skinny pedal during shifts and that confuses the Aisin ECM.
@JB_WhoWork4 жыл бұрын
RJT21 the Aisin is heavily built for trailer towing and heavy commercial use which is why it’s so unforgiving. I find that in time you don’t really notice it once you have it for a few weeks. Initially it’s pretty aggressive but as it breaks in, it gets smoother but not as smooth as the competitors.

Black Forest Green Pearl coat is by far the best.... And I went with the 2500 because I wanted the softer coils VS the leafs. The 3500 with the air and the 1000 torque was almost ordered, but after much thought I changed my mind and went the practical route with the 2500 Laramie CTD.

I don't know how I feel about the boxes on the side of the bed I could see trying to load something in scratching the side of the truck or just after you wash it you going to get water lines it's going to be extra work but it's nice that it's extra space that you don't have to put something in the bed of the truck

I opted to not go with Air suspension because for me it's a moot point. My capacities are way up there and I dont plan to tow to the max so it probably won't even squat. Besides I didn't think the ride was much smoother when I drove the DRW with air. I think the reason it's shift's harder is the Aisian. More torque means harder shift. The MPG on that truck is sick. I get about 13.9 and I thought that was good, but then again I have a DWR. Beautiful truck, thanks for sharing.
@JB_WhoWork5 жыл бұрын
Your truck has overload leaf springs so you may not squat if you stay within the 3500# pin. Anything above that may push it past level! You may be right because the shifts are very noticeable! Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching! If you plan on towing heavy, (3500# pin or more) I would step up and get them. A dually has overload leaf springs so it should support 3000#’s and less of pin weight while maintaining a level ride. RAM is know for softer leaf springs though...

Love watching but I'm not sure what's stopping you from doing a good 100 mile MPG loop. I would love to see your truck on a good MPG run. I understand that you csnt put miles on a brand new truck off the lot. $85k is still expensive now that I'm seeing the GMC AT4 and Denali selling for $72k to $80k. Thanks for the video.

@@JB_WhoWorkI'm torn on the Ram vs GMC. I'm hosting the GMC's are getting very good mileage but I love your truck and that Mega Cab. If the GMC did anything to the inside I wouldn't even think about it. I would just buy a white AT4. I think Ram still has a 55 to 45 edge for me at this point when I pull the trigger later this year or around the new year.

@@JB_WhoWork I agree, the bags do nothing at all for payload or tow capacity, only to level the truck. If you don't have the payload capacity to haul the big trailers it's pretty much a moot point. Just my .02
@knightwing45 жыл бұрын
Big D Productions - Maybe but he said his truck squats just as much as his 2500 did so it would level it which is better for handling. Also he said that the truck he’s testing here rides smoother than his truck. I think that could be because of using lighter springs and making up the difference with air because a shorter wheelbase should be more stiff. Last of all, the air system has been around since 2013 or 2014. Check other people’s experience before you say there’s a problem. I’m a truck driver of 24 years and I’ve only had 1 failure and that truck had 800k mileage. Air is the way to go.
@knightwing45 жыл бұрын
JB Reviews - It’s been around for 5 or 6 years now plus the aftermarket has been doing it for much longer than that. Not to mention tractor trailers have been using it for decades.
@BigDThatsMe5 жыл бұрын
@@knightwing4 I think there was a miss communication here. I have been around trucks most of my life, and yes that included Class 8 trucks as well. I didn't say I was against them, I just am not sold on them for the pick ups yet. If the truck does not have the payload capacity to haul the larger trailers it's a moot point. A Class 8 semi also has the ability to slide the 5th wheel as well as slide the tandems on the trailer which helps distribute weight, not the case with what's being towed with theese trucks. Again, I am not against the air, but for me, in my case, there is no need for them. Hope that clears my comments up.

Great video as always JB. How did that one drive/ride etc compared to yours?
@JB_WhoWork5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brandon! This truck felt smoother at higher speeds but I think the bags are a little harsher feeling at speeds below 25MPH. I had a Grand Cherokee with Air suspension and it too was harsh around the same speeds and makes that “clunky” sound going over bumps. Overall, it’s a good option if you plan to tow heavy!
@devodar25795 жыл бұрын
I can tell you exactly what's wrong with the AC after I figured it out, I have the same truck. This year Ram removed one of the components from the AC being the fluid exchange unit and some of the hot air from the heater core is getting into the cold air system. I found this is happening on the Ram 1/2 tons as well. You can see the fix that worked for me here on 5gen Rams go to post 269 at this site 5thgenrams.com/community/threads/air-conditioning-hack.10150/page-14 Anyway, it's really an old trick truckers use to this day, they put a valve to shut off all the hot water going to the heater core in the summer time. I went from 52 degree air to 41 degree air and believe me that is a HUGE difference. My truck will now freeze your but out. There is nothing wrong with the AC system, like the new 1234YF freon, it's just that the mixing door is allowing hot air to get into the cold air system.
