Another thing to consider in this comparison is that your cat makes waaaaay more power than stock. So a stock hellcat may be able to hook better and run a quicker 0-60 on the street than your Demon-Killing Cat😈 so a stock hellcat might be able to pull off a 3.9 sec run in the same conditions 🤔

I see hell cats get spanked by 400 horsepower to the wheel cars in the street all the time. 0 to 60. they don't hook well 0 to 60 so the fact of the matter unless you plan on racing over a hundred miles an hour where the Hellcat really shines! it's pointless to spend the extra money for the Hellcat. you might as well save and go Scat Pack. the 700 horsepower is just bragging numbers. It isn't usable on the street. therefore it's a waste.

@thomasburns33453 жыл бұрын
@@GOATEDHUNTER144 Yeah, your torque curve demonstrates acceleration characteristics, and can help you “see” how a car feels when accelerating. It can help with getting up out of the hole faster (assuming unlimited grip). A car with a flat torque curve that’s lower can be faster than a higher torque car that’s peaky and has a narrow band though. Turbo cars especially these days often are faster than their number would suggest because they begin peak torque very low, and carry it through or past to when HP more so becomes the number you’re looking at. That’s what makes my car so fun for me (Supercharged) is that it’s a linear torque and HP curve, no torque spike, just constant growth to the top of the gear. Ultimately though if the car is geared well and driven well you’re mainly looking at HP since you’re likely staying close to or above 5252 rpm after first gear. I’m not saying you’re wrong, in fact you’re right and I agree with the idea that most forget torque and that it’s important. I do think saying it’s more important than HP is a stretch though... maybe in diesel applications because the power and is so short and low?

Just to say - and here in the UK we are not quite as obsessed with 1/4 mile times as you guys - but the 0-60mph time IS everything here. A lot of performance car manufacturers actually gear their (manual) cars so they'll hit 60 before you need to grab 3rd purely to get a more eye-catching 0-60mph time to shout about... And yet.... On the STREET - which is what this video was talking about - for me at least - its all about upper end power - 50-70, 70-90 and so on. And that's where all those extra horses pay off. I've just traded in my 2008 SRT8 Challenger for a 2017 Hellcat - both a rarity over here - and whilst I'll agree the 0-60mph times in real "street" conditions probably aren't as dramatically different as you'd expect - probably a second at most - planting your foot at 50 or 60 in both is like night and day. The only time I've really felt a pull like I do in the Hellcat is back in the day when I had the use of my bosses 2003 Porsche 911 Turbo before he sold it. It was a twin turbo and when that second turbo kicked in, it accelerated from 60-100 in less time that most "fast" cars would do 0-60. My SRT, when booted at 60 would make a lot of noise - and - yes - pull ok too - but the Hellcat - when at those starting speeds traction is far less of an issue - absolutely leaves it for dead. Forced induction - whether supercharging or turbos - makes all the difference once you're moving at a decent pace. I miss the driveability of the SRT8 - I used it in all weathers - whereas the Hellcat is just plain dangerous in the wet unless you baby it all the time - but the rush of that upper end pull - absolutely intoxicating... No regrets here.
@RacerX95 жыл бұрын
44Angelblue .. hope your loving that cat! I know you get a lot of rain over there so I’m sure that adds to the challenge.. I certainly can imagine you get quite a bit of attention considering hellcats are really rare in the UK 👍
@44Angelblue5 жыл бұрын
If you don't like having your picture taken - don't drive a Challenger in the UK! The SRT8 was Hemi Orange - I added black full-length side-stripes just to break up the wall of colour on the side which worked really well; the Hellcat is Plum Crazy with the twin black stripes over the top. It was always going to be that or Sublime for me (or at a push Go mango) as these are (at least here!) cartoon cars and need in-your-face colours. Plus my teen years were the'70's and its like a trip back down memory lane colour-wise. These cars make even less sense over here than they do there - left hand drive in the UK is no great hardship - until you get to a drive-in or a toll station. Or get stuck behind a solid vehicle like a bus or a truck that you can't see through to see if its safe to pass. And the size makes them completely impractical - I think they are considered "full-size" even over there - but here they are just too big to lug around as everyday cars. Plus our fuel is STILL way more expensive here. I have a daily driver so the Hellcat, like the SRT8 before it, is a weekend thing - but not just for shows (which I DO attend quite often) It gets the shopping every weekend and anywhere and everywhere I go at weekends its the default vehicle. Though as i mentioned before, the weather here IS a handicap. The SRT8 was ok in the wet (ish!) - the Hellcat just isn't. Its all too easy to end up in a big "moment" without meaning to and I've saved for too long to wreck it so if its wet it stays home. Which IS limiting. i managed around 2500-3000 miles a year in the SRT8 but given weather restrictions I think 1500-2000 is more realistic in this. Once I've paid off the loan balance on it, I'll definitely have the Widebody kit fitted and the wider wheels and tyres on. Apart from traction it just LOOKS so damn good! Budget wouldn't stretch to a Widebody here yet - and I was sick of waiting so - its for a later date.Your upload was really interesting and came as no huge surprise to me given direct personal experience (though I think it will for many others). But that upper-end power once you are well and truly underway - THAT'S when you really feel it. And hear it of course!

Great comparison - I love that you actually tested some different tires. I have a '15 SRT 392. Running Contintental ExtremeContact Sports on it. Have done 4.2 seconds twice. Have done 4.3 seconds multiple times. Can regularly do 4.4-4.6 seconds. I have my custom drive mode set to sport, but with street traction control. Frankly though, I get my best times by modulating the throttle off the line, and then burying it. The Continental tire is very under-rated in my opinion!

If you think about it the scatpack is a great bargain considering it’s olny 20mph slower then the hellcats top speed. 180mph 40,000$ car is a great deal lol.
@hu3.7894 жыл бұрын
No surprise that the Mickey Thompsons would provide better traction than the Nitto 555rs. Tire quality grade standards were established by the Department of transportation (Uniform Tire Quality Grade Standards (UTQG)). Nitto 555rs have a wear rating of 100. They typically last about 10-15K miles depending on how you drive the car. The Nitto 555rs aren't a true drag radial. It's more of a street tire that you can take to the dragstrip. The Mickey Thompsons have a wear rating of 0. If you're lucky, you might get 5,000 miles out of them. Although they have tread like a regular tire, they have the same compound as the Street R tires (R2). The only purpose the tread has on the MT S/S is so that you're not taking your life in your hands if you get caught in the rain going to and from the dragstrip. M & H Racemasters are also a pretty good drag radial.

I tend to agree. I traded SRT Durango fir HC Durango. Same takeaway. While the cats power is undeniable, the instant torque from the 392 is missed. Especially for throttle blip downshift to decelerate. It's just not predictable with the cat. With 392 engine braking was science. With cat it's more witchcraft.

I have a 2017 Challenger SRT392. Could never get better than 4.6 0-60 on ONE Pirelli PZero Nero all seasons. Would even break traction when nailing the gas at 30-40. But I needed all seasons. Went with Pirelli PEarl All Season Plus, which is a new and improved version in the PZero family. First thing I noticed was the ride was much improved. Then I hit the gas...minimal wheelspin and tires hooked up quickly. Now, 0-60 is 4.2 on the street with all season tires. Can't complain about that!

Hey bro, I want to change the tires on my 2019 Challenger Scat Pack and I want ONE set of tires for the street and the track once-in-awhile. What tires do you run on your Challenger when you're not at the track? What you recommend to drive on the street but hold their own on the track too? I live in Michigan so I only drive my car in 3 seasons, it's put up from the first snow until Spring so I'm driving in moderate temperatures, moderate compared to TX, I do drive in rain but never ice or snow. I have fact checked much of your advise and you've never been wrong yet, you're one of the most trustworthy KZbinrs and I've never seen you "push" any particular brand and THAT's one of the reasons I value your advise and why, when I want to know something about my car I scroll through your videos FIRST. Thanks for your videos, they've been VERY informational.

Might sound like a dumb question but is the 19 Chally Scat the only one that has electric steering? Or do the 15's and up do as well?
@buckeyeman76315 жыл бұрын
555's are garbage on high hp cars. Get the 05R's. I dead hook on the street in my E85 '18 A10 GT, 4.2 with only 490 wheel. I'd chew a Hellcat up rollin' around town...I don't fear them with my set up.
@RacerX95 жыл бұрын
Mustang Man .. I tried both the 05R’s and the 555R’s and they seem to hook about the same on my setup.. although the hellcat makes power very differently than the stang.. 890tq @ 2500 rpm will make any tire feel less than ideal lol
@buckeyeman76315 жыл бұрын
Yeah bud, my lack of torque helps dramatically leave the line easily. For sure. Not sure I'd agree with a 555 being equal to an 05R though. My 05R's hook a lot better than the last set of 555's I had. I think your problem (which is a nice one to have) is all that power you make, especially down low. @@RacerX9

The moral of the story is the most cost effective mod you can do to your Challenger if you are not planning to be a drag strip guy, but a stoplight street racer is to get the some good tires. On the flip side, big waste of money putting a lot of power in your car and not going to the track.. Well, I guess for roll racing that power would come in handy. .

Im amazed they put less than 265s on cars with 300 or more HP. Especially on a car that's supposed to be performance oriented. 245s used to seem so wide to me back in the late 90s/early 2000s but even back then i knew 300hp is too much for a 245 tire in spirited driving. When i'm driving a compact car, 215s are the minimum I feel safe with. Skinny tires make me feel like i'm on ice skates, especially in the wet.
