How you liviing with that little 4cyl and the CVT tranny? My buddy just bought '19 Legacy 3.6 Limited, He came out of a 2008 Volvo sedan. He said, its a different ride but feels realy good. No specifics on the CVT, may be too soon. I'll test the 4/6 cyl Outback LImited/Touring next week. Maybe even the Forester just to know.

Erik, how long did you keep yours on average? My wife and I have pretty much always driven Honda or Toyota and we like how well they hold up with minimal maintenance. I've heard mixed reviews on that for Subaru, some saying that the CVT starts to fail around 100k and others saying they've driven their Outback for 300k miles or more. How have they held up for you in your experience?

We just picked ours up after looking at the CRV and RAV4. The Outback fit and finish was super but the CRV was pretty good. However for the same money as the CRV you get all wheel drive - Navigation - better seats - much better stereo system! And it’s quitter on the road. The CRV may be a little bit quicker but not that much. Bag for the Buck the Outback takes it. Thanks for the review! Ps: you say Super too much but that’s okay I guess.

Bro the ac and infotainment display was updated in 2018 not 2019…..this generation of Outback came out in 2015 and in 2018 it got a mid-cycle refresh, so that’s when it got the new restyled updated interior mainly consisting of the new 8inch STARLINK display with apple car play and android auto, along with the restyled ac controls….other mild mid-cycle restyled bits were the headlights and taillights, the headlights being my favorite since it incorporated Subarus new corporate signature LED driving lights….Also Interesting thing I noticed, you have a limited model without Subaru’s mirror puddle/approach led lights?? Mine has them and it’s only a Premium trim. Also all Outback’s especially for this generation have the same suspension tuning regardless of the trim.

I’ve had a 2018 Outback 2.5 Limited for six months and have 6,000 miles. Until last week I was telling everyone that this was the best new car my wife and I have ever owned. Last week the infotainment system went dark - totally dead. No backup camera, navigation, radio, telephone, apps or Starlink. Car has been at the dealer for a week no and neither the dealer or Subaru of America in New Jersey can tell we when replacement parts will be available. This problem is apparently widespread with the premium infotainment systems installed in 2018 and newer Subaru’s. There is a pending Federal class action lawsuit.

I'm a Toyota guy and I've been really contemplating getting a Subaru for our next car because I do think it sort of fits our outdoorsy lifestyle while being a very practical car (I'd get a Jeep Wrangler but I don't want to guzzle gas like crazy...plus they're more expensive). But the CVT is my main reason for hesitating and considering something like the new RAV4 Adventure model. I know they did it to increase fuel economy but I wish they offered one with a regular automatic even if it meant giving up some of that efficiency. I'd really like something like a 2.0L turbo with a standard automatic transmission but it's never going to happen.

@SubieandFriends4 жыл бұрын
The 3.6 is very nice however my 2.5 has served me really well and I've never had the need for more power, I especially love the amazing hwy mpg at 32mpg and it's also less expensive then the 3.6R...even the towing capacity is the same for both engines...but still you cant go wrong with either engine, the only difference other then fuel economy would be quicker Acceleration for the 3.6R, 2 seconds quicker 0-60 to be exact but that's something most people dont really care about....I got a video on my channel showing how quickly my 2018 outback with 2.5 Accelerated and it got to 111mph pretty darn quick....it would go faster but that was fast enough for me...bottom line the 2.5 is fast enough for most people, those that want to go even faster can get the 3.6R but you will pay more for it in the price of the vehicle and at the gas pump.....but still the 3.6R deserves credit for getting a very good 27 hwy mpg, not bad at all for such a big lifted AWD 6 cylinder wagon...like I said both engines are very good for what the outback is designed to do...

Jack Random handles just fine in the wind. It has a boxer (which is a flat 4 engine, lower to the ground) which makes corners and handling pretty fun. Keep in mind it is technically an SUV but for what it is I’d say it’s fun to drive. Easier to maneuver than traditional SUV’s.

Going to test drive '19 Outback Touring/Limited models with 4 and 6 cylinder engines to compare. Coming out of my '15 Toy Highlander, hoping the Subie's don't feel to cramped inside, shoulder-wise. Also, plan to test the '19 Honda Passport EX-L. That is supposed to be really roomy interior, may win me over. And here in S.E. Texas not alot of need for AWD in the 'burbs. Maybe some sandy, Gulf Coast beach driving at most. My '12 AWD Ridgeline did fine in that soft sand back then. Drove right by a stuck-deep, 4wd Jeep Wrangler, lol. Was thinking to try the '19 Forester too. I think that's small-ish. And just read this is last year for this model OUtback, 2020 bringing revision. Think it's more interior/electrics update. Hope I don't buy the '19 OUtback and see a whole new style body for 2020 OUtback this fall, that'd suck. We'll see next week. 4 or 6 cyl Subie or Honda Passport, coming home with one of em.
@spencersteele75 жыл бұрын
ernieD I loved hearing your thoughts! Coming from a bigger vehicle like you have, all the options you are considering may seem small. In my opinion, the outback was the roomiest and best value. I went with the limited vs touring because it had leather, eye sight, the better sound system and thick acoustic glass. Not sure how the touring would have benefited me much more for the money. Also, I’m at a mile above sea level and do fine with the 2.5. It’s a outdoors vehicle that’s meant to commute, hence why I got the smaller motor. Where you’re located I’m sure the 2.5 would be faster and more fun. Again, base off of your needs. The 3.6 is nice but at that point for the price you could look at other vehicles that are nicer I.E. Audi or Mercedes even. Just my two cents.

Have to say though I am getting so tired of reviewers going on about the CVT and the supposed lack of power from Subarus. Does nobody understand what the brand is all about these days ? Many people like the CVT. Many people like Subaru. They would be out of business if they didnt. Reviewers personal opinions shouldnt come into it. Far too much of that on KZbin car reviews. Its for the buyer to decide if they like it or not when they visit the showroom.
