A very good detailed sum-up TMF. My XE replaced a Speed Twin early this summer and can sum-up very simply - far from perfect when analysed - but without doubt he most enjoyable bike I have owned.

Wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment Farmer. My only negative after 3k on this bike, the seat! Quite uncomfortable after a couple of hours in the saddle.

Ummm 🤔 better, best etc are all strong words - they are very different bikes - however the Speed Twin needs to be the probably coming R version to compete - particularly brakes and suspension - for me The Scrambler is more suitable for UK roads and just more fun !

Spot on review imho. I bought the scrambler 1200xc for all the positives you highlighted and I'm 6ft so speed twin is a bit too small. It's funny how the feeling one gets from a machine has the final say in the decision making process. I couldn't decide between the MT-10 SP & Speed triple RS. Got on the XC and it made the decision for me. It's a looker and even the most uninterested in bikes people comment on how good it looks. Took a couple of pics in Henley this summer alongside a super duke R. Both bikes look amazing snapped together. PS. I also have a white transit van. Sorry about that !

Triumph has never been on my radar because several irate Triumph customers (one lady was screaming that her husband bought a brand new bike and it wouldn't run long enough for them to get it home after several tries) were in the dealership when I bought, serviced, visited that dealer for my Ducati a couple of decades ago. So many people complaining about the Triumph bikes, I just thought they must be crap. Before your videos, I would never have stopped by and checked these out at one of the local dealers. I was holding out for a GS, but now....I don't know.

When I first bought mine, yes, moving it around was not easy but I soon got used to it and my driveway is on a slope and difficult to navigate. I would also like to add , living in the Blue Mountains nr Sydney Australia I do a fair amount of 'off road ' riding on sandy firetrails. On the straight sections I sit comfortably at 50kmh and not once have I felt like I was going to lose it. Awesome both on and off road.

Neil, have you experienced any excessive heat from the engine or pipes? So many bikes I've tried lately produce too much heat for me. I live in Texas - it is hot here!
@lawdayl
@lawdayl 4 жыл бұрын
@@CarlB558 some heat from pipes but not to the extent it worries me. I wear a decent pair of full length adventure boots (forma) which really helps too. I did a 6hr coastal ride last week and it was fairly hot days no problem at all from pipes. Only negative was seat. You're bum thanks you for a break after 2hrs riding. Otherwise very comfortable riding position!

Good analysis. However, once this bike is in motion off-road, it is incredibly agile and easy to chuck around. I'm coming from a KTM 690 Enduro which only weighs 320lbs, but is very tall. The Scrambler blows it away for fun and ease on dirt roads in California. It also looks ridiculously sexy compared to any adventure bike. Ive kept my klx250s for super hard trails, but i can't wait to jump on the big scrambler 1200 for anything else.

Thank you for your deliberations on the Scrambler 1200 XC, TMF; I think we concur. I want to add another Triumph to my stable, which includes a 2009 Street Triple, and I have been considering both this machine and the Speed Twin. I've test ridden both the Scrambler 1200 XE and the Speed Twin, and this summary has convinced me even more that the Speed Twin is the bike for me. 👍

Mind you, if your start adding a centre stand and other accessories the Speed Twin will get heavier.

Good final review Andy. Two things, your point about the weight is not IMO nit picking, it is a very valid point. By stating this fact, from the perspective of an average height person you give others the ability to look at new purchases with sufficient knowledge to make informed decisions. Lets be honest, we all look at new bikes with Rose tinted bifocals and its too late to find out that your new bike is top heavy after you have dropped it and scratched the nice shiny paint just maneuvering it around your driveway (unlike a Boxer twin Triumphs fall ALL the way down. And number two. Just think, after Brexit all the vans will be the same model of British engineering cause no one will be able to afford all those exotic European jobbies because of the exorbitant import duties.LOL.

Another great video TMF keep them coming. Recently I’ve been riding my partner’s CB125F and due to the bike’s low weight it’s been a thoroughly enjoyable experience, it’s easy to maneuver and filtering is a doddle. In future reviews would it be possible for you to include some riding footage shot from an observer’s perspective? It would be useful to see you riding the bike so that we can get an idea of a bike’s size.

Still probably the use of steel as opposed to Alloys makes a lot of bikes heavier.I am surprised that some motorbike manufacturers still cannot minimise weight by using more high tech materials that can still look good
@MattSilverlock
@MattSilverlock 2 жыл бұрын
Steel (of which there are many, many varieties!) is still generally better for these kind of frames: less vibrations than aluminum, and stronger w.r.t. torque effects. A Scrambler 1200 is only about 20-30kg heavier than most liter sports bikes (an R1 is 203kg wet and a Scrambler 1200 about 230kg) - 13% heavier. Noticeable for sure, but a lot of that is in the larger engine, heavier wheels, and extras.

It must be awkward when a manufacturer lends you a bike for review, and you have some negative comments about it. But the only reviews worth having for the public are honest reviews, and at the end of the day it's only your opinion, but if it involves a part of the bike that clearly has a problem then everybody wins when it's sorted out.

I just viewed this, i also am short of space and moving bikes is my biggest issue, i wonder if you have tried a centre stand dolly? Plenty on the market your bobbly garage floor wont be an issue with some, i want yo buy one bit dont know which one the Americans seem to be ahead of the game with CSDollys bit shipping costs are ridiculous as always, we left the EU and failed to capitalise on our best market 🤷🏻‍♂️ they still want to charge import fees from the USA 🤦🏻‍♂️ but not China, makes no sense

Nice bike & vid but not really my cup of tea tbh. There are are many other Triumph's I'd have over this first. Plus I'm pretty much the same size as you so height & weight are always major factors for me too when considering a bike. Anything over about 220kg wet starts to put me off.

Hi TMF , ever heard of benelli? They made a bike that I swear looks like ducati diavel but it's a 500cc A2 licence friendly. It's called 502c . I swear this is a major turning point for all benelli fans. Review pleaseeeeeee. Only 5000£!!!!!!

@@stuartb1963 I think is a chinese wallet but italian build quality. Which is probably as bad as chinese lool. I would love to see an honest a true review, hence I turned to TMF. Will see , i want to give benelli the benefit of doubt. Might backfire since i am very seriously thinking of buying one.

Ah, top-heavy...whatever. I have a BMW K100RT and you can't even sneeze, breathe or turn your head while you maneuver that around in the garage - it will take you down before you even have time to let go. I don't drop it anymore, but it scares the crap out of me, like it's tipping over, pretty much every time I touch it.

Dear TMF, enjoyed the final review however,I note with interest the countryside in your area looks remarkably er Summery! Whilst the rest of us are freezing to death and or learning to Kayak!it seems to me that your part of the world looks positively tropical! Thank you for posting. A quick question and then an unrelated rant. :) Why do you think the scrambler is so much awkward to handle than the SpeedTwin? Don't they have the same engine, basically, the same transmission, hardware and setup? Interested in your take. Now the unrelated rant. Have the folks in the UK experienced the new KZbin layout? To me it is horrible(would like to use obscene language but I am afraid of being banned). I have, easily, hundreds of "recommendations" (when prior to the change I had near zero) from KZbin that must be removed manually one at a time. Incredibly frustrating. I only subscribe to maybe 15 channels. I have no interest in gossip channels, no interest in cat channels, music channels, etc... Please make it go away!! I know you can do it. :) End of rant.
