The filler is offset so that when the bike is on the side stand, the filler is the highest point and the tank can be filled to the maximum.

Brilliant and thanks Peter. That makes sense now you've explained, thank you!

@@RichRides Great review. I've had my Speed Twin since Feb (Australia) and your assessment is spot on. I was fascinated to hear a bit of front brake noise on your ride, because I get the same on some days, and I wonder if this will turn out to be a ST thing? :-( But overall, I love the bike.

@@petersydney5895 As you say, interesting that this and yours had some front brake noise. I just assumed there was a stone or similar stuck in there... And like you, I also loved it :)

@@petersydney5895 Got mine in March (France) and I got the same noise from the front brake after a few days. It's still the best bike I've owned!

Also if you have a spill or a dribble with the fuel nozzle it only goes down the side not all over the middle of the tank. It's also easier to put the nozzle in at the side.

Not sucking up to you or anything, I thought it was a clear informative review mate, with good camera shots as well. I have now subscribed. I agree that setting off and riding in sport mode around town can feel on/off but it isn't the fuelling it is the big twin engine with the 270 degree crankshaft, but as you say putting it in another mode really tames the engine. I am amazed that my bike is managing 60mpg especially with the way I am riding it quite enthusiastically, I'm off round Spain on it in a few weeks and I recon it will return even more to the gallon.

Thanks for the feedback Stephen and always good to hear what bikes are like longer term. Enjoy Spain on it, that bike and those roads and weather will be a brilliant combination :)

Thanks for sharing your review. I’ve done 900kms on my speed twin. Took some time to get used to the side stand. I’ve also had some issues with the front brake squealing, plenty of brake dust build up which needs to be cleaned out regularly. Tip: when cruising around town keep it in ‘Rain’ mode, much more comfortable.

Thanks for sharing your longer term experience. Interesting that a couple of owners have now mentioned the front brake noise, and glad you've found a solution.

re fuel filler position, I would have though the reason would be the spine of the frame passes through the centre of the tank and you would not get the fuel nozzle in that far .

A good accurate review Richard-I've done 1k on mine now since getting it in March. My own thoughts/adds-things that would improve it: a centre stand would've been good (like the Street Twin), adjustable rear suspension too (similar to the Thruxton)-and that beautiful rear mudguard-it really needs a hugger (if you want to go out in the rain-as the mudguard doesn't stop anything at all-although a work around I've discovered is to take Wifey, and then my back remains clean). Otherwise, a lovely machine-much fun, more torque than almost anyone needs. Does what it says on the tin-a modern retro-not for everyone, but great for me (as a second bike-kept the GS for commuting and touring 2-up). Agree on the side-stand position too-have to think about it too much/doesn't work easily without a boot with a heel.

when the bike is tipped over on stand at fueling station the gas cap will be at 12:00 thus assisting no drip fill...enjoy that gorgeous machine!

I test rode both this and the Scrambler XE from A1 Moto last weekend (4th May). Liked the Scrambler slightly more than the Speed Twin personally, but it was very close... The Speed Twin would make more sense as I don’t ride off road really, but the Scrambler, with all the extra toys; heated grips, cruise control etc. was amazing... Which one would you have out of the two?
@RichRides
@RichRides 5 жыл бұрын
I loved them both and it would be a nice dilemma to have. For me though, although I thought I'd prefer the Scrambler (and do think it looks better) I'd go for the Speed Twin. For the kind of riding I do it would be more suitable. The Scrambler is supposed to be excellent off road but because of it's cost, I doubt I'd risk taking it green laning!

Nice review mate, that centre stand is nuts! When I pulled over the first time and tried to put it down I spent at least 2 minutes trying to find it, thought it must have fallen off 😂

I did the same the first time I stopped. But the side stand on the Moto Guzzi V7 I had a few weeks ago was 100 times more difficult!

Great looking bike badly spoiled by those discoloured down pipes which make it look distinctly second hand.

This was a demo bike that hadn't been cleaned before I took it out (as had just returned from a test ride). I'm sure some autosol would sort it out.

I'm convinced now that I don't like the look. Tank is too bulky and the seat too think. The horizontal tank strip doesn't worth either. Probably fix it with a thicker seat and repainted tank.
@RichRides
@RichRides 5 жыл бұрын
Different people like different things :) And Triumph know that so have a huge selection of different parts that you can easily swap to customise as you like. For you then it sounds like the black version where the whole tank is black may work, and you might like one of their thicker quilted seats too :)
