2019 Triumph Speed Twin Review

Within Triumph’s Modern Classics line there was always a sizable gap between the Bonneville T120 and the Thruxton. The Bonnie had a nice standard riding position and more sedate power delivery, while the Thruxton had a much more committed rider stance and sportier performance. What about riders who wanted an upright riding stance but craved more get up when the go knob was twisted? Well, the good folks in Hinckley have answered the call with the 2019 Triumph Speed Twin.
However, Triumph delivered more than merely a revised riding position grafted onto a Thruxton chassis. Instead, an entirely new motorcycle was created from careful updates to the Thruxton. In the end, the Speed Twin offers a package that may out-Thruxton the Thruxton - at least until some of the Speed Twin’s modifications trickle-up to the older sibling.

2020 here and I’m trading in my vtx 1300r Honda. This is exactly the bike I wanted from Triumph and what I consider a perfect machine for me. The vtx has served me well and I only bought it because it was a ridiculously cheap trade in with very low miles. I’m actually getting more than I paid for it. Looking forward to many smiles and miles on my new speed twin.

This is a great motorcycle. It has edged the Thruxton as the premier model classic for Triumph. It is such a nice ride, so comfortable in comparison and very elegant. I think it actually is a better package than the RNineT - better handling and much better around town. It is not a "competitor" really for the Z900RS - not the same kind of machine, apart from reminding one of motorcycles of the 60s and 70s. And one last thing - I understand the idea that this is a "retro" or modern classic, but really, Triumph has never stopped making these bikes! It is only "retro" insofar as it doesn't look like a Ninja 900. But really, this is just what Triumph has been doing, in different forms, since forever.

Looks like an Honda CB350 with modern rims. I think that since they bastardized the Thruxton R with Ducati parts, they probably should have thrown these wheels on it for good measure. All the lighter bits too. I'm sure it's a great bike as Triumphs tend to be, but good lookin it ain't.

@@torqueofthedevil8145 It is what? Good? Yes, I'm sure it is. Just looks like a UJM. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just the Japanese already do this. I can't fault Triumph for cashing in on this look too if that's the latest fad. I just prefer Brit bikes that look more British.

Somewhere in the world exists a factory cranking out garbage shocks and forks to supply all the world's motorcycles below 18 grand. Man I wish they'd go out of business. Damper rod forks are the motorcycle equivalent of the live-axle suspension on cars. Cheap pre-load only shocks are the motorcycle equivalent of Walmart Monroe shocks costing $30 for cars.

I own Suzuki Bandit 1200 k6, how bandit could be compared to twin speed. Honestly I am scared of my bike, I bought it as I was tempted to try difference between 600. Some people say 600 is slow staff like that I did not find 600 slow, for my riding very responding and still powerful and quick to make me alert anytime I pull the throttle. Actually first bandit I crashed so badly so I sold it as wreckage, with second I was more careful. I am thinking to sell currant bandit 1200 never tried to test limits of the bike.
@LondonSteveLee
@LondonSteveLee 5 жыл бұрын
Similar power outputs - unless the Bandit has an aftermarket exhaust system, which adds considerable power. But the Speed Twin 1200 will run rings round the Bandit in terms of handling and brakes - absolutely no comparison, so it'll be much easier to ride for a less experienced rider. The Bandit isn't a bad bike, but it was built to a price as a budget machine and it shows, still a great bike though.

It is beyond understanding really that this bike gets all the trick components to make it lighter, and more agile and flickable than the sportier version of the 1200cc bike. This usually happens the other way around, taking a stock heavy bike and lightening it up to make a sportier version. As far as marketing is concerned it doesn't seem to make sense to me at all.......unless you pay more for the unique parts on it that aren't on the thruxton.

That would be awesome and I dunno why they can't either. Though, if you think about the fact that it's almost literally half of a supersport inline 4, 96 horsepower sounds about right. 96 x 2 would equal 192 horsepower, which is on par with all but the newest of the new inline 4s. Then again, the Triumph's displacement is roughly 1200cc, which makes it 200cc larger than an entire inline 4, so Lifted_Above may have something...
