After bogeying four of his first six holes, three-time U.S. Open champion Tiger Woods caught fire and finished with six birdies, including four over his final six holes, to shoot 2-under-par 69 in the final round of the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links. It was his best U.S. Open round in a decade, putting him at 2 under par for the championship.

@@dw-nb2zh Seriously, Nicklaus wouldn't have lasted a day with multiple back surgeries AND a fused spine. Tiger won the US Open in 2008 with a broken leg AND a dislocated knee AND a playoff. Who else? Mental toughness is his hallmark. These young "flash in the pan" players the media loves to hype can't touch Tiger with a fifty foot pole, even at age 43. Three or more Major wins and Snead's record of 82 wins is certainly not out of reach for Tiger if he stays healthy and motivated. Most of the pundits said he would never win another Major. Voila! Tiger's 43. There are nine players older than he who won a major (and most are in the modern era). Given Tiger is (subjectively) the greatest player to ever grace the game I don't think it's unreasonable to see him in contention for more majors over the ensuing seven years. 25 more to go until his 50th birthday. Only injury, not his will to win (as evidenced over holes 61-72 today), will thwart him.
@HorsepowerHouse

@@simonhill1590 Even he would tell you, his body is broken. It has been through far too much. Too many surgeries, too many rehabs, too much abuse. It can only take so much. @@HorsepowerHouse Funny, small world we live in lol, I just clicked on your comment here and realized that I was talking to you last week about how tennis is so boring now and how only 3 men win everything lol. We must watch the same stuff, golf and tennis haha. However, I do have to disagree with you on this one. I think Tiger is just playing it safe right now, and not trying to over do it with his back and body, I expect him to rest for a few weeks, and start to turn his game up a bit this summer. Not saying that he is going to dominate the way that he did 10 years ago, but I expect to see him playing at a really high level this summer, especially in the FedEx Cup Playoffs which is 4 big tournaments. I believe that Tiger is in this for the long haul, and not short term success, he's 43, but has recently said that he would like to give himself the best chance to win more majors over the next 10 years.

Ya, Just watch how many wont win! But the worshippers still will post videos of one round saying how good he was and couldnt pull it together, Its called age guys. His best is in the past. He still may have some spurts,but thats all. And dont mention he won the Masters. He was handed that by the others leading that made dumb shots late in round. Tiger didnt outgolf these guys, but just hung on for a gift. Even Koepka missed his last putt that was very makeable. Almost looked fixed for him to miss.
@yamamancha
@yamamancha 5 жыл бұрын
@@terrythomas790 Handed a Masters victory? That's the dumbest shhh I've read in a while. Is this Brooks' burner account? Tiger didn't even have to par the last hole to win. lol For every golf pro, it's about putting together 4 good rounds. This year Tiger has 4 top 10 finishes and 1 win, A MAJOR. He's Top 15 on the money list despite playing less than any guy among the Top 170 players. I guess the other guys handed him the Tour Championship win and 7 top 10 finishes last year, eh? Tiger is only going to play 12 to 15 tourneys a year from here on out, but when he plays he moves the needle. He'll do just enough to make cuts in most, contend in a few, and rack up a win here and there. We get to enjoy this golden era a little bit longer before Tiger decides he can no longer compete and decides to hang it up. For now, deal with it.

Tiger has to play more rounds like last year. He is not playing enough in my opinion. It seem like he’s trying to play his way into form in the tournaments. Last year when he played more weeks he got better and better and by the time the British Open came around he was playing the best on tour.

81 PGA Tour Wins 15 Majors , what else to do? He is already the best of all time. Getting to 82 Wins to tie Sam Snead and more is just a walk in the park for Woods....He has 10 years left to get there which is by my account he will reach 90 PGA Tour Wins at least!

The best of all time huh. Pretty easy to have all those titles when you didn't have any competition for 10 years. Tiger just played against 2nd rate players. Nicklaus took on legends in their prime. No matter what Tiger does in the rest of his career; he'll always live in Jack's shadow.
@Orcinus1967

@@arysetiadi6344 Many factors go into golfs measure of greatness. I am no expert. I agree that overall wins and the time span to achieve them.. and the competition level..all are valid measures. As well as injury. Nicholas played injured for example. So overcoming adversity could be a factor one would use if one really wanted to put a fine point on it. I do think that Major victories are important in that the pressure is greater. More press, a bigger stage, bigger crowds, more $$ and potential endorsements. More internal pressure golfers put on themselves. You and I are familiar with judging across a variety of statistics baselines etc. Total wins is a top measure indeed. Yet...Majors will remain one of the measuring bars . If only because former golfers/ on air personalities keep using it. What I am saying is until Tiger equals or betters Nicholas" 18 Major victories, he will still be "arguably" the GOAT. I happen to think he is already. But I also think 18 Major wins would cement the argument. And as witnessed in this very thread...others will claim Nicholas faced greater competition, which has been disputed and probably always will be. Just like Michael Jordan. Cheers.
@Orcinus1967
@Orcinus1967 4 жыл бұрын
@@Recon-cv1fe I agree by nature of Nicholas coming first chronologically, Tiger will always be in his shadow. This is a long article but in terms of competition the author states: "Tiger’s peers never put pressure on him on a Sunday and he never put pressure on them. He dominated in an era of chokers. Jack dominated in an era of legends.". ftw.usatoday.com/2018/04/tiger-woods-jack-nickalus. Another analyst says that is not so. The argument being Tiger faces deeper competition, Nicholas only had to fend off a few top qualifiers. I am trying to find that article...once I do I will edit this or add it. Another consideration. Jack had back injuries in an era before arthroscopy and disc replacement and successful back fusions and knee repacements.. without the variety of medicines and scanning machines we have today. Tigers career could have ended much sooner if he played when Nicholas did, and Nicholas much longer and maybe better if he played today.

What was going on for the first six holes? Many of those shots were very unTigerlike. Keeping the bogey on 5, but losing the other 3 on holes 1,2, and 6, then adding a birdie on 1, 4, and 6, his 69 becomes a 64, and gets him in the clubhouse st 7 under. If any weather came in, he's in a decent spot. But it didn't, and play continued as expected. But what was going with the iron play, leaving all these shots short, and then the 3 putts are a bit out of control. Not that anybody was gonna beat Woodland this week, with his scrambling ranking coming in around 169th, but this week he ranked #1, and with his game tee to green, and solid putting, he looked like a good option for Sunday. Koepka made a charge, but couldn't quite hole the extra 2 or 3 putts. Still a good week.
