Great interior finishes, great engine (sound, power output across RPMs, bare performance). But what best tells the essence of sport Golfs (R included) is the fact they are sold with a DSG gearbox only now... If that doesn't bother you, the Golf's a very OK choice for you. If that bothers you, the Golf would be a non OK choice for you (even with the manual, if VW were so kindly to still allow people choose their gearbox and choose whether to spend €2000 more or less on it, which VW aren't, because they sell too many of these in Europe to remain kindly).

I think I need Golf R next. I have a Scirocco GT and I love it but I need 5 doors now. It’s so frustrating fitting adults in the back, they hate climbing in backwards 🤣👍🏻😜 These cars feel so perfect at high speed it’s fantastic.
