Never feel bad about carrying the same stuff. It merely means that you have perfected/streamlined what you need on a day to day basis. That is the meaning of bushido. Peace and balance. I carry way more. And probably too much. But I do not find myself wanting. And I live in a very different environment.

Hand lotion good idea, maybe a little better, especially in colder weather, is Vaseline. This can be used on your hands and lips, also cheeks and ears to prevent frostbite. And as everybody knows,it's flammable

One thing i haven't really heard from any survivalists/ bushcrafters is any lighters be it bic primarily butane, is that in extremely cold weather the fuel can get very cold and actually not light very well or at all. So even if you have it in a case keep it closer to your body to keep the fuel warm not in your pack or outside pocket. Also if it does get to cold to light it and you need the fire now. You can shake it really hard and immediately try to stike it and it can light for a second or might stay lit. Found this out the hard way on a winter pack were it got too below zero.

You might consider swapping out the toothpick on your trekker for a Firefly Ferro Rod, they're tiny, but if you brace it along a stick it'll throw decent sparks :) I swapped mine out a year ago, can always make a toothpick, hard to carve a ferro rod though!

When you do some work with your hand they need some lubrication. You give a machine some oil so why not give your hands some oil as well for lubrication and to prevent them from getting worn out like machines do when they don’t get enough oil :) (DAMN! This sounds weird!)

I have both, the Mora Garberg and the Kansbol, and they complement each other perfectly. If you are worried that the Kansbol might not take it with ease, then get the Garberg. If you don’t need a beefy knife like a Garberg just take the Kansbol. And if you want a cute knife... get s blue Eldris :D Such a cute little knife, but I don’t have it. The mentioned Moras are my only fixed blades (I only have 2).

I have a mental picture of you in the hat carrying the bone saying” it rubs lotion on itself”😜 just kidding . Look forward to your videos of this camp. Hope your having a great year so far. I think your EDC is good maybe a bit redundant on a couple of items but, it’s all personal taste. Perhaps a bit of duct tape to help make bandages you have the handkerchief already. But, all in all very good stuff.

James.... good EDC video! Always nice to see what peoples are caring and what's new. Love the hat~~ If it really gets cold and the wind blows, you'll be thankful for it. Ifn you're really serious about the snow, for your own sake, get proper footwear. At the very least treat your cowboy boots with a good leather preservative and waterproofing coat. Nice kit. You can buy a big box of fatwood from Walmart or Lowe's for like 8 dollars. I recommend opening it and looking at the pieces to make sure they are resinous though, as not all the boxes are of equal quality. I checked 2 boxes before I found one that was super full of pitch.

James I'm glad you got around to trying out the green river camp knife this design and the Canadian belt knife are my two favorites to carry while hunting fishing or camp and trail. I have used both for camp chores , making primative traps and fish hook carving, batoning wood and what many people call bushcraft but I call woodscraft since I'm in America lol. I like your edc but being like you I live in a city and go to woods when I have the time. Here are a few things I see that you may want to add to your edc, compass,first aid kit, cordage , straw water purification, millbanks bag, water purification tabs, 4 3" steel drywall screws they can be used to tap into tree's for a water source.

Sheesh, for EDC I'd say your set : ) But if ya want more, maybe a small waterproof container for 1 of your backup lighters with a button compass and a few water pills for emergencies. Don't remember if ya showed a alloy/ss water container? I also put a dry bag in my pack. OK that's enough about waterproof stuff, lol, what can I say it's always cold, windy, and rainy here. (Northwest) Cool knife by the way, always liked that design, good all arounders.

Nice video. Always good to see your gear. I think you are the only person I've seen that keeps their gear fairly standard. One question, Why dont you carry a compass? As an avid outdoorsman I figured you would have one. I edc one daily in my edc bag but, I am out and about in the woods and cities so I keep it in my bag versus on my person. I also keep at least a sunto clipper on my person which is okay for gross navigation. otherwise you have a great setup there as always.
@JunkyardFox
@JunkyardFox 5 жыл бұрын
i dont carry a compass often becuase in my deseert home, its easy to navigate using landmarks, the wide open spaces let you head towards that mountain, that building etc. and truthfully, im not very good at using one. ive been looking to find classes in naviation but havent found any locally.
