Prayer isn't about changing God's mind or convincing Him to do what we want. It's about building a relationship with God, aligning our hearts with His will, and finding peace and strength in His presence. Through prayer, we express our trust in God, knowing that His plans are ultimately for our good, even if we don't always understand them. It's not about getting everything we ask for, but about connecting with the One who knows us better than we know ourselves. Prayer can bring comfort, guidance, and a sense of peace, even when life is uncertain. I'm not religious by any means but I do have faith in God. Love your videos Road Runner and congratulations!

Roadrunner, thank you so much for allowing us on this journey with you! First there is nothing wrong with asking sincere questions. No one should get offended by a hunger for truth. Second, I have always looked at the maxim, “Man plans and God laughs” from a different perspective. God isn’t spiteful or aloof. It is more from a loving father acknowledging the hubris of his child. By definition, if God is God (and we are not) it would be the height of hubris to expect to tell him in any definitive sense what will and won’t be. However, as a loving father and creator who wishes to have his children restored to health and relationship with Him, he does care about us and our desires. He especially wants us, his children, to return to him and seek His will. It sounds logical me you are seeking him and I will pray that He will place his people in your life to help you along the way! By the way, if you are ever in Roanoke, Va my wife and I would love to host you in any way we can. From a former pastor, current believer and future PCT hiker shooting for 2027?

@macclark5188 for me it's about maintaining a belief in God and seeking to live a life aligned with that belief, but without the formalities and structures that typically come with organized religion. My mother is religious. She goes to church every Sunday goes to Bible study every Wednesdays she goes to end of the month prayers I don't do those things.

I asked myself the other day why I enjoy your channel so much vs all the other hiking channels available. And I think it is because you present yourself and your thoughts in such an honest and forthright way - both the good things and the difficult. You aren't afraid to put your real thoughts out there. That makes this probably one of my favorite videos you've done. Because the struggles you describe are ones many, many people deal with but just brush aside or won't talk about. I have been a believer for a long time, and even I sometimes struggle when my prayers are not answered in the way that I am asking so earnestly for. Just know that you are not alone; and know that He will reveal Himself to those who seek His face. God speed Julianne and thank you for letting us share in your journey.

It's refreshing to hear your transparency about your journey discovering God. He must be looking down and laughing in delight at you questioning his existence. He loves you more than you know and loves it when you just talk to him and wonder. In my years of discovering more of how God intersects himself into our lives in one way or another, I've recognized all he wants is for us to seek relationship with him. You are an amazingly strong woman Julianne, independent and assured. Just the fact that you are allowing yourself to be vulnerable shows so much courage. Just keep listening, seeking, and discovering the amazing life God has ahead for you. He's there; he's real; and he is revealing himself to you. I have certainly enjoyed following your journey and I had hoped to meet you on trail. I did a little trail angeling for your tramily (Boss Bae and Birdcall) and also ran into them on trail a few weeks later when I did a section hike in WA, but you were far ahead - a true Roadrunner! Keep at it and thank you so much for sharing your love of the trail with us!

My perspective on your God musings is this: First there's a vast difference between Spirituality ( our search for Divine Presence in our lives) and Religion (systems which have created a set of beliefs one must accept ) And for me I have found that Divine Presence within myself through my connection to Nature. God is there in the transcendent moment of pure bliss watching a sunset over an incredible view of vast mountains or oceans. God is there in the relief of reaching a safe place when flames appear, or a storm kicks up on the trail. God is also there is the time spent with True Traimily friends who accept each other and honor each other's need to hike in their own way. And for me this Divine Presence many call God is never harsh, judgmental or out to punish us, instead the Divine Presence I have come to know always holds us in quiet Love and sends us strength while we set out on the path we chose, no matter how many mistakes, mis communications or missteps we make along the way. As you so often said on this amazing journey, "That's just my opinion , take it for what it is." May you have many more safe Road and River Crossin's on the trails to come.
@katfinwall77713 ай бұрын
Our thoughts are aligned. Altho I call this Divine Presence the universal Source. I am 76 and was an atheist my whole life, until about 3 years ago. I wanted to be more spiritual and started a deep dive on what that means for me. I believe the Source is inside of each of us. My believing principals are to be Present, Real and Kind. The key is kindness. I love my new life (New Path), live in Ashland Oregon and am a Section hiker (mostly alone).

Your shouting at the devil is such an epiphany, I love it. Thomas Jefferson the controversial believer said, “for I have sworn upon the alter of god eternal hostility against any form of tyranny over the mind of man.” Such a prayer/plea in benefit for his fellow beings, not for personal gain or fame, but simply and magnanimous to others. What an incredible testimony. Not an endorsement for a church, a sect or ceremony. Invoking the name of god as some force of good. Certainly an endorsement for a beneficial god.👍🏼

Wow! I love your openness and spiritual journey with finding God. That is really beautiful. Lol never say never. You may end up someday going to church and finding that spiritual nourishment, but it has to be at your own time when you are ready. I feel that God puts people in your life at the right time. God blessed you with Boujee to help you with your spiritual journey. Prayer is our communication with God. God can carry us through any storm. If you have not watched it, I encourage you to watch the movie God's Not Dead. It is a really powerful movie. I grew up in a religious home. I attend church weekly and in spite of having faith and trust in God, I sometimes experience challenges. There is something in my life currently that I really want to happen that is really beyond my control. It is something I pray for daily if it is His will, but I have to come with terms and accept the outcome if it is not His will. That can sometimes be a struggle, but it doesn't change my beliefs, because I have experienced some pretty powerful experiences of God's existence. I pray for you in your spiritual journey of finding God.

I have loved your videos and now feel sad that you won’t be part of my daily routine (till the next hike 😊). It’s been such a joy to get to know you. I too grew up in Germany and have found myself now living abroad (in Australia)… All the very best ❤

Love that you shared about your strugglle with God and religion. I have faith in God. My AT thru hike in 2017 strengthened my beliefs. I truely felt closer to my creator and all His creation. You were put with your AT and PCT tramilies for a reason, not by your own design. This ignited your questioning on what your belief system is and wanting to learn more. Then He gave you people who could help you answer some of those questions. Everything happens for a reason. I love that you had that lightbulb moment, recognised what was happening during that low point on the Devils Ridge Trail. You were being tested. The devil comes in the darkest moments, when you are most vulnerable. 😮

I'm 86 and a born again believer since 1968. Time may give us a great opportunity to leave the stressful daily life behind then find the Truth. In 1968 I almost crashed a Cessna 310 at Mansfield, Ohio due to heavy rime icing and no forward visibility. As a new pilot saw the situation in my imagination that people see just before they get killed. I saw my epitaph on a tombstone and a deep hole for my casket. So is this my end? I took a deep breath and cried out- GOD SAVE ME! Whoosh! All the windshield ice flew up over the twin engine 310. There in front of us was the runway and I landed normally. I can't type this without a tear falling... I didn't know God is Creator and Upholder of the Universe. I love Jesus and He loves all of us. His people take the time to do things like hike the PCT and speak the beautiful Truth as you walk and talk so well. Washington State has much to love. Capt.

Thank you for being open about your experience with God. I truly believe if you want to experience God then take a hike! I experience God through the beauty of His creation! I too love to hike & have done section hiking on the AT. The beauty of God's Creation literally stops me in my tracks! - the beauty of a meadow, the grandeur of those beautiful mountains you captured on your videos, sunrises & sunsets and the hard stuff too. It's beautiful & spiritual! I believe it's God's Glory being proclaimed & drawing me closer to Him. Maybe that’s what has happened to you? A wise person once told me, “It’s not about religion but a relationship.” Once I changed my focus to a relationship, God began to draw me closer to him & opened my eyes to a clearer understanding of Him, others & myself. I would like to pray for you as you continue to seek Him & for your next journey. :)

Thanks for being open about your spiritual journey. It’s certainly different for all of us. I’ve related to Job on multiple occasions, even at times repeating his line of “I curse the day I was born”. Life is hard and I don’t understand why a loving God would allow it to be so. For me, I felt God was showing He loved me through the beauty of mountains, waterfalls, lakes and meadows. Almost felt like it was made for us to catch a glimpse of his beauty. Not sure I could experience the beauty of the PCT and not believe there was a God. But yeah, I have a lot of questions that I can’t find answers to as well. Keep searching!

Your musings about God made me realize I am a practicing Pragmatists, spiritually, if that is possible. I don’t believe that single (or multiple) higher entities necessarily exist, but I believe religion and its practices has evolved multiple times in various human civilizations and must have a meaningful purpose. I find that prayer/meditation/contemplative practice taps into healthy parts of myself that are otherwise hard to reach: humility, meaning, gratitude, acceptance, forgiveness, letting go… It helps make me a bit smaller in the big world (in a good way), it helps me step away from the tangle of my thoughts &emotions and see things I can’t see while inside the tangle. Like becoming my own impartial observer and trusting, wise friend. You could call that my inner Buddha Nature, you could call it God, you could call it what you want, but I think we all have it.

I love your conversations about God, I truly believe he is reaching out to you. I’m a Christian but take no offense to anything said about religion. I too struggled with religious dogma, which is created by man to understand God. I have chosen the path of relationship with my creator through Jesus Christ. It’s personal and loving. I do choose to go to church to connect with others like me, trying to get closer and to connect to others like me. I also connect with God thru nature, but also connect to God with other like minded people. Church is to praise him and connect to him on a personal level. Just like finding a trail family. God wants us to connect with others. I so enjoyed your journey on the pct and will go back and watch your AT journey ❤️

I've enjoyed following your journey from Mexico to Canada and am so happy for you that you finished and had a great time! I could go on for ages about God and such. I identify as an agnostic and what that means for me is that I have little regard or use for organized religion. I separate that from God, since IMHO one is human made and the other is not. You have been surrounded by the beauty (and sometimes harshness) or nature for months, immersed in it, and that is a true blessing. I thought by the time I got this old (age 59) I'd have figured all this stuff out but I highly doubt that's happened. So much that seems impossible to know or understand from our perspective here on earth. If we can appreciate and be grateful for what we have every single day and do our best to be solid human beings that's the best we can do IMHO. The rest of it, well, maybe much more will revealed at some point when we reach the end of this journey ... or not. Everybody believes what they believe, but nobody truly knows. I look forward to following your further adventures.

I have the Durston 1p Pro. Generally I am pretty happy with it. I prefer my Blackhawk Hammock, but as far as ground setups go, it is excellent. The setup - does take some practice, especially, in rocky. or bad terrain, but over all it is good. I have had it in driving rain, 3-4 inches of sloppy mud, and it kept me dry. Overall it is a good setup. I'd suggest, a 2x2 or so piece of Tyvex as a landing just to keep the mud/dirt odd your gear in the vestibule.

I was in a severe depression in 1984, in Yosemite, trying to control a girl in Iowa and having a hernia prevent me from doing a big wall. After getting patched through via radio and phone to an A.A. friend, making a suicide prevention call on my behalf, I started recovering, but I stayed depressed. Another girl from Iowa came out and tried to cheer me up, but I remained depressed and angry at God for not answering my prayers. One night, I challenged God to help me, during my evening prayer. I told him I would quit praying and believing in him if he did not give me answers. The next morning, I didn’t pray and felt empty inside. A girl who I hiked with came by, telling me she was returning to school and she said “I know you don’t have a Bible, so I brought you one.” I realized that I was a privileged soul to receive this personal answer, which some would call a coincidence. The people who say the universe was a result of a big bang or some other theory, cannot answer me when I tell them that the universe could not come out of nothing. It makes no sense to me. Thanks for the journey. I love you.

If you want to discover the character of God, read the Bible with the intention of discovering the character of God. An awesome way to do this is The Bible Recap here on KZbin - it will change you. "Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper."

Congratulations on the EPIC TRIP and I look forward to seeing you and your family adventures continue. As for your religious experience as for everyone it’s an ongoing journey. For me it’s a one on one experience with Jesus Christ as I believe that we each experience carrying our cross. I like to say we can’t hold back the storms or the ocean waves. He calls us each by name and not all are called. You through your hiking show us him that a person with determination and courage go into the wild world yes there are a lot of people on trail but you are alone with him each step you do is what he has let you do. The spark of wanting to know him is awaken. Try just talking to him you might be surprised at what happens. A fan and friend you have become a part of me as this adventure leads into a new one. JoP

God is so much more than just believing. God is love and after watching your hike I can tell you God blessed and watched out for you. You keep believing. Listen…God comes in the silence. For me being in nature is where I have my best talks with the Divine. Do you see how much you grew on that trail? I see it! ❤

God doesn't torture, God is testing you. Have faith and just talk to him. Talking to him is like praying. Love you too!

I am not a Christian, but am very spiritual. I don’t like organized religion but respect everyone’s faith and belief system. Follow your heart and you will find your way. Thanks for sharing something so personal.

Your spiritual journey is very interesting to me. I have been on a diverse journey my entire life(71). I was raised in a cold religion (christian science) which I dumped as an adult. Then at 33 I went through some traumatic things and became a born again Christian which filled my emotional needs at that time but soon found it too legalistic. So I transitioned to seeing God or should I say God’s energy in all of nature and animals. This has fit well with my love of nature and hiking. I call the outdoors “My Church”. I can accept others where they are at, but God is not limited by their views for me! I am sure you will find your path as I found mine. And BTW is okay to be mad at God! Hopefully I will see you on trail sometime!

Thank you so much for sharing your struggle in your faith in God. I recently renewed my faith in Christ and it's changed my life, less anxiety and no more depression. Though you said you're not sure about the Bible, I believe it really is how we get to know God better, and understand why certain things are happening. I'd focus on the New Testament (if you decide to read the Bible), because it's His new covenant with us and really focuses on His love. God does have a plan for you, a plan to prosper and not to harm you (Jeremiah 29:11). He does care about your free will though, so even if He does have a plan, you can ask Him for things and He listens. He might not answer the way we all think, but he surpasses time, so He'll do things that we don't understand. The Bible also says to seek and keep on seeking, knock and keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you (Matthew 7:7). And there's a parable in Luke 18: 1-8 where the persistent person gets what she asks for. But everything according to His will and timing, because ultimately He wants what's best for you. I'm so glad that God spoke to you on that Devil's pass to show you that it was the devil who tried to steal your joy. Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy - he is a real enemy. I'm so thankful that God put Bougee in your path. If you have some time, please check out Joseph Princes' sermons. He talks a lot about God's grace and love and what Jesus has truly done for us. Sorry for the long comment 😅 Congratulations on finishing the PCT. I've really enjoyed watching your videos while I get ready for work. God bless! ❤

Totally, spectacularly, awesome! Thank you for this 'encore' video! Some might say that your prayers were answered. And they may add that faith makes things possible rather than easy. At any rate, you've thrived from two fantastic through hikes, which so many will never realize! And you've been an inspiration to a very many!!! May the many acts of comfort you gave to others through this medium come back to you many fold! Peace, strength, and cheers until next time!

Love your "God story." We only need a mustard seed's amount of faith and big things can happen. I was hoping for a closer commune with God, while thru hiking the AT but it didn't happen as I had wished, but he did get me to the finish line, so that's a good thing. Wanna hike the CDT? Gonna miss your videos. Whenever I cross a river now, I'll think about your "river crossing." 😆

God gives you free will. He doesn’t control you like you are a remote control car. You also won’t become a believer by someone beating you over the head with being or not being Christian. Continue to ask the questions you have and see where it takes you. Prayer is not to ask God for what you want, it is to ask God to give you understanding of what He wants and would have you do.

I love my Durston. I hiked with the two person xmid solid, and it is so lightweight, spacious, secure feeling, speedy to pitch and it has these clever little tiny luxuries. Highly recommended!

You do not pray for good weather, you pray for perseverance. You pray for wisdom, courage and strength. You may love mother nature, but mother nature is indifferent.

sometimes God allows you to go through difficult times so you can grow and be stronger because of it. I my own life I can look back and see how struggling through things have helped me to learn to rely on him now in very difficult times. I also find that that is when there is a special closeness to Him.

Spirituality is a living way of seeing, hearing, moving through the world, wide awake. Karma brings what we have chosen to find our spiritual balance of responsibility and freedom. It is such a question of balance and seeing the long-term goal of enlightenment, while living through the challenges. Thru-hiking is such a picture of the human spiritual journey on Earth!! Sincerest congratulations on such an accomplishment🎉🎉🎉!❤💃👏

Thank you for sharing your heart/thoughts about God. One of the hardest things about Christianity is reconciling the facts that God is sovereign, He doesn’t want us to suffer, and yet He allows us to make choices that He knows ahead of time will hurt ourselves and hurt others. What He promises is that He will be with us and His Spirit will comfort us while we go through suffering; until He returns to take with Him those who put their faith and trust in Him, to live forever without suffering. He has changed my life! I’m praying that you will continue to be open to His Spirit’s leading and accept the comfort He gives when you need it.

I love hearing about people's relationship with spirituality (or lack thereof). The Life of Pi movie reminds me of your account here. I think a lot about that movie and its symbolism when I wonder at why life is so terrible at times.

It was a great pleasure to follow you these past months on your hiking adventures on the PCT. There's a little seed of faith planted inside you, just focus upon God. Jesus is the way,the truth and the life.John 14:6 And there is no other way,not budha, not yoga, not bahai, but only Jesus! Greetings from the Netherlands

God shows himself in the beauty of His creation and in the people who exhibit His will by acts of love and kindness. God seeks us. We don’t seek God. Let Him find you. You will find the “Peace that passes all understanding.”

I appreciate all the thoughts you've shared on your hike this year. I've been watching since your pre-hike videos. I can see that you are an independent seeker after truth and think carefully about your beliefs and spirituality. I am a physicist, educator, and academic. Like Bird Call, I'm also an artist. I believe in science and logic to describe the physical world. However, I also follow a spiritual path. I've been a member of the Baha'i Faith most of my life. I think you would at least find it interesting to read about a religion that has no clergy or churches but is now the most globally widespread faith with thousands of ethnic and tribal groups around the world. Baha'is believe in the oneness of God and religions, the oneness of humanity and freedom from prejudice, the inherent nobility of the human being, the progressive revelation of religious truth, the development of spiritual qualities, the integration of worship and service, the fundamental equality of the sexes, and the harmony between religion and science.

God rains on the just and the unjust.. Your supposed to praise him after such an ordeal..prayer is also thanksgiving for keeping you safe... Don't give the Devil any dues... know the standard...confess with your mouth that Jesus came and died for you and rose in 3 days..and you take Him into you heart..and you already believe or you would'nt be concerned.. Job just refused to give up on God..and that's all we need... Blessings and prayers for more understanding 🙏
