These cars when they rot bad the rear frame goes first. The springs will push right up through the floor if it gets bad enough. I have a DeSoto bumper here that I took off by cutting just the top of the C-channel frame rail in ahead of the rear crossmember. I had a '57 Dodge wagon the frame actually cracked in the middle when it was tugged out of where it had sat.

My father drove one of these very briefly circa 1962. These cars were not known for their reliability...to this at-the-time four-year-old he described the car as "sick" while revving the engine, trying to figure out its problem.

They had a number of quality control issues, were prone to rust, and had poor brakes.
