@@lolom8772 good question. I think the biggest changes are security at the schools, and changes the smart phone and internet world has brought us (youtube recording, electronic payments, texting and email for communication, and app based metronomes and tuners)

Mark Finley oh ok that would definitely make sense, must’ve been crazy when students started using their phones to keep the tempo instead huh?
@frednich9603
@frednich9603 3 жыл бұрын
@@lolom8772 we had metronomes before, but they were separate devices that if the kids had them, usually had dead batteries. Students are much better at keeping their phones charged. Back then, electronic tuners were pretty rare and expensive. No excuses these days for not having one

Flying Turtleman I’m a freshman too and last year I was 3rd in my region but with enough practice you’ll get it. Just build your range by doing high buzzes on your mouthpiece for 5 minutes a day and then play those pitches. I do this with my private lesson teacher. My first lesson I could barely play a high g above the staff and now I can play a double e flat. It’s just practice

Not a trombone or brass player here, but I'm expecting the characteristic "blowing raspberries" sound from the trombone on the attack of the notes that's magically and wonderfully missing. Wow, just beautiful. I've searched for others demonstrating this and he is so smooth in comparison. What's he doing?
@SashaRomeroMusic
@SashaRomeroMusic 3 жыл бұрын
Late response, but that raspberry sound that a lot of synthesizers and younger players produce on the attack is basically the waves taking a long time to cancel out at the beginning of the note. Not to get into complicated acoustics, but if you know how strings instruments work, it's much the same for brass instruments. In other words, every possible frequency plays immediately, but because of the shape of the horn and the embouchure, most frequencies end up canceling each other out and all you're left with is the fundamental note that you hear and multiples of that note (the harmonic series). To be less technical, I get my air and buzz into the horn immediately and so you don't have that audible brraaaapp sound at the beginning, whereas most younger players actually start their air a bit too slow. It's still there, but it's much much quicker so it's inaudible. At least, that's my working theory.
