That engine is simple to build as they put more power in a larger block and that is cheaper than doing it in a smaller one. It’s cheaper because it’s simpler. Then they put more weight on the rear wheels for better traction. Lastly, GM is discontinuing the Camaro in 2023, making them divert more resources to the C8.

Because you never had a brand new pick up truck or never WANTED one. Trucks don't compare cars in mechanical sense also so the price is higher than your average sedan. They're heavy for a reason. Multiple dealers have confirmed they will sell at Msrp w/ no markup - of course optioned out I’m sure they will be close or at the $70k #, but I’m sure plenty will be sold around the $60k # as well. Cars, Costs and Technology The Corvette is going to be excellent performance for the money. But, that’s where it stops. The Porsche is still the standard in which all others are compared. Refinement, quality, fit and finish and materials are why the Porsche is more expensive. Both the Corvette and Porsche are road cars. Not race cars. Sure, they can be taken to the track but that’s not their primary purpose. To understand, drive a ten year old Porsche and then drive a ten year old Corvette with similar miles and reasonable care. The Porsche still feels tight. The Corvette is a rattle trap. Now you know where the extra money in the Porsche went.

They have multiple of these cars knowing in a few years they will resell them at cost or profit, and when they go out someplace they won't see a dozen of the same car in the parking lot. The C8 is an exceptional value, no doubt, but I doubt many people considering a $200k car are thinking about saving $140k, they'll just get both.

Having bought more than a few sports cars in my time, 0-60 times is important but far from the key buying decision. The overall feel inside (interior) and the dynamics on the outside is much more important than straight line acceleration, unless all you plan to do is drag race someone at a stoplight. Having said that, there is no denying that the corvette is a great value.

Sorry to disappoint you but a base model corvette is not a supercar. The corvette is a relatively cheap Chevy sports car, moving the engine location doesn't change that. I have owned 2 generations of Z06s so I am a fan, but these are just sports cars. Supercars are on a different level across the board.

In a rear engine car (like the 911/Carrara) the engine center of gravity is behind the rear axle. A better comparison of a mid-engine car would have been the Cayman, not the 911.

I compared this to a Ferrari 488 GTB. Ferrari 488 uses a mid engine 3.9 liter turbocharged V8. 7 speed DCT auto, 0-60 in 3 seconds. $269,000 C8 Corvette uses a mid engine 6.2 liter, NA V8 engine. 8 speed DCT auto and does 0-60 in 3 seconds or under. $60-70K.

Why are people only talking about 0-60? You realize the Ferrari is still much faster right? It will complete the quarter mile in mid-10s and gap the C8 when it crosses at mid-11s. There will also be multiple tens of thousands of these C8s running around and no one will car, which is quite different from Ferrari's.

Kids see people buying exotics all over the internet, and because they are unable to afford one, think those people are stupid becuase they wasted their money when they could have had a mass produced sports car with good performance specs for a quarter of the price. No one who has a 488 is kicking themselves, and no one in the market for a McLaren is going to seriously consider any form of the C8 as an alternative. This car will be an addition to peoples collections, not a replacement to exotics, which is not what Chevy was going for and unfortunately how "normal" consumers are looking at the C8.

This scenario did happened in 1990 when the NSX was announced, and Ferrari and Lamborghini among others had to adjust to Honda's new preposition. Now GM is doing the same thing with the Corvette and we will see how the other car makers react to it.

It’s a totally different approach and feel. Yes, I’m a huge Cayman fan, as it’s the essence of what the 911 began as, but lost as it moved further upmarket and more into the GT category. That said, what Chevy has done here is simply phenomenal. I think the C7 is fantastic. But this new C8 is mind blowing. Porsche has a completely different feel and purpose in my book, but huge kudos to the C8 and if you’re only after true performance as well as bang-for-buck, they’ve definitely knocked it out of the park. Looking forward to how this may shake up the performance and sportscar world. Raised the bar for sure. Looking forward to seeing them on the road as well as what this may have in store for C6’s and ‘7’s being even greater used bargains! Great vid.

Can you imagine the level of panic inside the design suites of all of the competition? One would likely frequently hear..."how the heck..." Let's hope the production quality holds up to the hype. My C5, C6 and C7 were all progressively better and held up reasonably well. Rotor warping on all three versions, starter motor problems on the C6, Leather curling and AC compressor problems on the C7. I do put 130 -150K on my cars before I sell them and I don't expect the reliability of a Honda in a performance car. I think I want the 2021 ZR51.

I will say that quality of materials and fit and finish will have to be up to world class standards in order to lure buyers of the Vette's competitors away from what they're already familiar with. Time will tell how well the actual car lives up to expectations, but the excitement it has already generated, and what Chevy has already announced, is no small thing. And mind you, this A LAUNCH car. Yes it will crush the competition except maybe the Porsche 718 since it is the king of cornering though weak on acceleration. And maybe the 718 competitor for Mercedes. In order words, MB is going to build the same engine layout like the C8 and 718 and will come one in a few years. I compare the C8 to the 718 because the C8 has a 40/60 weight distribution while the 718 has 45/55. So the C8 is closer to the 911’s 38/62 and it’s V8 engine has a higher center of gravity than the boxer six engine. Maybe, the C8 will handle like the tailspinning 911.
