I'm 67 years old and I started riding in the '60s, I don't care about neutral indicators and stuff like that, just give me a bike that's fun to ride and beautiful to look at, this bike fits the bill for me.

It's the ultimate city bike. Perfect in Chicago, out here in California it's more of a toy than a legit all arounder like it was in Chicago. Too much highway riding out here. The 797 is a banger in tight quarters but for doing miles... not so much. It's 10/10 gorgeous though and mine gets compliments constantly and it's near stock.

I bought a Dec 17 797 last summer as my first bike. I passed my full test on a MT07, just wanted something different. It’s a nice bike, the power is linear and not scary at all. Getting it into neutral was a pain until about the 1600 mile mark and then it’s fine. What I like is the accessory catalog, especially the Rizoma products, you can change loads on it. To be honest, it’s a weekend bike for me, if I was commuting, I’d get the MT07.

I had a Ducati 696 when it first came out back in 2009. I had the first one from Italy in the entire state of Illinois. I was famous for the very first few months. People wanting to take pictures of it, cops pulling me over just to see it. It was an amazing time.

Ok the no fuel gauge is a legitimate gripe but you don’t need a gear indicator. Between the tach, the engine sound, the seat of the pants feel of the engine and how it’s responding to throttle input, you can gauge if you’re in the right gear or not.

I thought Ducati transmissions sucked, but they behave after their first service. They have a ton of false neutrals until they get dialed in. Rode a Scrambler demo and thought Ducati’s were nothing but hype. Rode a Multistrada and holy hell that was a ton of fun! Seriously looking into a Monster. They seem to have a friendly resale value for buyers.

This is in no way meant to be read in a combative tone. Just observations from time spent working in a Ducati dealer. Ducati doesn't keep any parts in North America. if anything goes wrong with a Ducati, even a new one, it's at least $1k to get it fixed. Italian motorcycles are great fun, but they will cost exponentially more to own than a Japanese bike.

You are not riding the 797 right, especially a new one. You wanna go fast, read up the torque specs so you change gear at or near max torque 4-5k rpm. It s a 2 valve air cooled Ducati. You wanna rev the tits off one thru the gears, try the 821 4V water cooled version. It likes rpm like your multi Jap bikes. The MT07 makes near identical bhp and torque as a 797, but as you noticed, very very diferently. Different strokes for different folks.

If, however, one does not really know or understand the principles involved with operating a manual transmission due to lack of experience or ignorance, perhaps an indicator may be used as a 'crutch' until they acquire more skill/expertise in the operation of shifting gears...perhaps these same people would also appreciate a dash indicator warning when their feet are off the pegs? @@ampm9771 The sound of the engine or the response of the throttle or how quickly you gain/lose speed are the vehicle's indicators that experienced riders or drivers pay attention to know if they are in the correct gear or not. When one has even a modicum of understanding of the mechanical workings of a manual transmission drive train, a 'gear indicator' on the dashboard is, in fact, an 'idiot light'. The MT-09 and especially the Street Triple RS are a big step up in power. The 797 and MT-07 are kind of equal bikes and for beginners for their first big bike , though having ridden both, the MT-07 has a little more punch, though it has cheaper components. The MT-07 cross plane engine is a classic and is fantastic and I find it better in traffic. The 797 being air cooled is a bit lumpy in traffic, though for me the power is smooth and the brakes are far superior being Brembo.

@@BalazsNyitray well i just heard the price in the vid. I don´t know which additional fees and prices come on top in america. Here it is selling after the price on the market- and thats it.The monster here in germany is seriously about 14 up to 16 k. new. But it could be, that they are cheaper to come into the us-market. The hardest part is the service and the support at branches (?)- Händler. Thats why mv agusta had such big problems.
@BalazsNyitray
@BalazsNyitray 5 жыл бұрын
Deeman the us prices never include taxes, because that changes from state to state. I highly doubt that any ducati would be pricier in germany before taxes. It can be that you have high taxes there - fear not, here in hungary the sales taxes are one of the highest in the world:)

First, you are riding this bike like a Japanese bike which,does not work , second ,if you want to test a bike ,dont do it on straight roads, take it on the twisties and you will know what a monster is all about . A Ducati likes to be ridden at high revs , and when you slow it down you go down the gears ... what is it with Americans and having to know what gear you are in ? ... the sound of the engine will tell you weather you should be up or down a gear . The fuel gauge has always been lacking for some unknown reason , most Ducati riders put the odometer back to zero when we fill it and refill at 200 km .

That “reliability” issue is a myth due to the 2006 models and older having a shorter recommended cycle for valve inspections and timing belt changes. Especially over the past 10yrs or so those intervals have been stretched to match their competitors. I personally have a 2005 Monster 620, and it’s been rock solid.

@@Agwings1960 That's a lovely leap you took there. Did I say that there were zero problems at all? Tell me, where was that said? What you failed to comprehend is that the metrics used to try to knock Ducati's reliability is due to time at the mechanic. Tell me, on average how many Ducati owners do their own maintenance beyond chain cleaning? Oh, wait, you actually don't give a shit about what I've already said. Ive been an avid motorcyclist since the late 60's, and Ducati makes some of the best looking motorcycles in the world, always wanted one, but they are usually high on the list of unreliable machines. The current number one is Can Am, according to what Ive seen. Im not hating on anything, just stating what Ive read on the motorcycle forums and consumer reports.
