Hi sir, for question 14B or any other question, how do we know/understand to use the discriminant and it what cases should we use the discriminant

When we got a quadratic with an extra constant it will be (a)x^2 +(b)x +(c) and you constants should be in c it could be in b or a but I never came across it, make sure you always write it in that form
