I came from an Iron883 to the Street Bob. These bikes are not even comparable. I love the rawness of the sporty, but it was way too small for me, I only had that phase because of financial reasons. I am a new rider(after a 30 year break from little Suzuki back in day). I love the Iron for what you and Nick both said. Great for newer riders who want to have a bike to control and I do not plan on doing a ton of highway miles. The 80% non highway and 20% highway is a great ratio to make the decision towards the Sporty. PLUS, it is a bad ass looking bike and love the history of the EVO engine and the sound it makes. It is just a blast to get on and ride!!! Keep up the great work and appreciate the honest reviews and opinions you guys share!!!!

Hi Matt, another of your very professional videos. I think the most valid comment was Nick’s when he referred to “a sweet spot.” The Softail has that wonderful laziness while the Sportster is frenetic. I was happy as could be with my 2003 Road King, till my son in-law bought a used 2018 Street Bob, wow, I just loved the new technology, mono-shock suspension, Milwaukee 8 engine and the power to weight ratio these bikes have. I mostly ride the mountains of Utah, Brighton, Snowbird and other canyons nearby. But I’m kind of old school and prefer Chrome over blacked out bikes. So while eating brunch for Mother’s Day, at my son in-laws house he tells me about Harley coming out with a mid year model called the Softail Standard, during the conversation I was able to convince my wife that it would be nice to have another Harley, to my amazement she was on board. So May 11 (The next day) I went to Harley Davidson of Salt Lake and rode home the new 2020 Softail Standard, wow, it’s everything I thought it would be and more, best purchase ever and no regrets at all, the only sad thing is I don’t ride the Road King anymore, so it just sits in the garage with the Standard looking good. It’s kinda nice having a spare bike to share with friends & family that ride, but all I want to ride is the Standard. I guess the other sad thing is I just put the bikes in my garage for winter till spring. We don’t get to ride year round here like when I lived in So Cal, but you know I can’t wait for our February Thaw, great vid, Thanks for all the vids you make, love watching them!

Funny thing is here in Utah we have no helmet laws, but I always ware one. But I still cringe when I see folks riding Harley’s with flip flops & shorts.

All the points we made about the Iron 883 are also applicable to the Iron 1200. The Iron 1200 is a little more powerful with different bars and cosmetic stuff. The points we hit can be applied to the 1200 as well. You're right though, Maybe we should have specifically used the Iron 1200
@MrApiiinr4 жыл бұрын
I think it actually made perfect sense seeing as it was a comparison of entry bikes. You could argue they should have compared the 1200 to a more expensive softail, but realize the 1200 vs 883 really doesn’t have much difference in use. I think it would be harder to justify the 1200 over the Street Bob/Standard because of the closer price proximity. They got down to brass tax. You want to ride but can’t afford a touring model or similarly priced Softail, so you consider the more affordable option. You aren’t necessarily touring cross country, so then the sportster starts to make sense. Basically, this video was for me, not necessarily everyone. I’ve ridden and owned a sport bike, a 1200 Sportster, a FLD, and a FLHTK. It’s been a few years since I’ve had a bike, but some day I’m getting back on two wheels. My Dyna was my favorite, the Limited the most capable, the 1200 the most classic, and my Buell... well, if you rode one, you know. I don’t think I ever want as expensive a bike as the Limited, but my crotch rocket days are long passed. I’m a bigger guy that misses riding, but a husband and father who isn’t going too far from his loved ones. So either of these bikes could be in my consideration, but I want my next bike to be the one I keep for as long as I can. Thanks Matt & Crew for making your awesome videos. Seeing California’s highways reminds me of my last trip to the west coast for this Florida boy. You guys are the best.

Along with a helluva lotta people I think the Sporster is the best motorcycle ever made For whatever reason it makes me think of an originally messenger-type of motorcycle hot rodded into a faster/louder home run. @ronlheureux76234 жыл бұрын
As someone who rode an 883 Sporty for many years, I found your comparison right on the money. Sportster does have a number of limits on it. Besides those described in this video, The read suspension is just lousy. The cost of upgrading it to a quality set of rear shocks is as much as 1 grand. The brakes, particularly the front are inadequate and the need for a 6th gear is tremendous. I do love the potato, potato, potato sound. It is the essence of a Harley Davidson. Since they switched to fuel inject that sound just isn't the same anymore. Most people do upgrade their bikes in any one of several ways, but with a Sportster, you are going to want to start quickly. I'm barely 5'9" and 160lbs, so the seating height and width is perfect for me. If the rider wants to customize their bike for better sound and performance, as well as cosmetically, Be prepared to spend another 2 grand plus.

I've said it once and ill say it again... if you like the styling of the Slim, it is the best bang for the buck right now IMO.

The Softail standard should come with a 5 gallon tank and big speedometer with a tank mounted dash like the previous Softail standard. Most of the differentiation between a street bob and Softail standard is blacked out vs polished aluminum.

What a great comparison video. There is experience here spewing great knowledge everyone should heed. The video itself is significant in its presentation, as its straight forward approach cannot be missed by even the most novice of riders. BY FAR the best produced video about HARLEY DAVIDSON'S ever!

Interesting that other motorcycle manufacturers do not offer stage 1-4 kits for their bikes.

I think the 883 is the best looking Harley still. Didn't buy it because of the small motor and it's overall size. Harley Davidson should bring out a larger framed 883 sportster ( modified softailframe, 114/131 motor). But then it would probably look like the Street Bob or the Standard which are also good looking bikes. The only thing what could be better on the Street Bob or Standard, a wider tire. But I am perfectly happy with my 2019 Fat Boy which will get an ape hanger handlebar (Fused) soon.

Thanks for the comment. Personally I think that if you like the look of the Iron then the Street bob delivers that same look on a bigger bike.

Selling my iron 883 converted to 1200 is one of my greatest regret. Don't get me wrong, I love my cvo springer to death but I wished I kept my sporty along with the springer.

Hi I’m sorry to ask... I’m going from a scooter to a Harley. Which one do you think will be a good transition bike?

Which bike would you recommend for someone who weighs about 280 lbs, height 5’ 10” with no riding experience & has a budget nothing over $10k?

Would like to see a updated video, now that the Street Bob is a 114. Would you still recommend it over the Sportster or Softail Standard?

I was going to get a 48 but sportsters are being banned in Europe now. So i'm getting a softail standard as my first bike instead.

Yea, I heard the sportsters can be sold there anymore. Kinda sucks,

My first Harley was a Sportster. From there I went to a big twin and all of the cam chest issues that come with a big twin. This baffles me. When is Harley going to wake up and use the same cam chest design on the big twins as it does on the Sportster? They can still keep the big primary/ separate transmission thing going on so it doesn't look like a Sportster engine. The quad cam/straight pushrod design is bulletproof yet they keep redesigning the big twins Cam chest trying to get it right? I don't get it.

Hey Matt, great video. Have a question for you. Wife just passed the MSF, so she’s looking. She is 5’4”. She sat on both a ‘17 Slim and an ‘18 1200 Custom, and was able to flat foot both. Would she have a shot at flat footing the standard or Street Bob?
@ann-marie2375 Жыл бұрын
I'm 5ft 4 and I flat foot the street bob. But it's more to do with the inside leg length.

Well to be honest I think people should start with and Iron either 883 or 1200. Then trade up to like a Street Bob or a Soft tail Standard. Then once your Riding level increases then look at bagger and stuff like that.
@dgross20094 жыл бұрын
Matt, you usually have your Harley facts spot on. But how is a 3.5 vs 3.3 gallon tank a gallon more? When you figure in the lower fuel economy the range on the Street Bob would be less than the Sporty.

As usual you rock with your videos contents, carry on friend !!! Sportster line up should be stopped with the introduction of Dyna and Softail. Harley should produced nice cheaper Softail as replacement of the sportster. Everyone could be happy long ago. It seems Harley still didn't understood the point. Euh, with that been said I still love so much my 1200T and think it is the perfect bike for Europeans narrow roads. One day I will get me my dream bike the RoadKing but will keep the beautiful mini RoadKing of European roads the 1200T 😎
