I was waiting for the Bronx, and then we got that Sportster instead....not happy. The bronx added the frame that a sports oriented bike needs and the right sized tires. The Sportster S looks to be some first introduction attempt to not go to full naked sport bike and keep some sort of harley look for the aging clientele before going full on sports frames. That was a big miss IMHO. Harley should have went all in and not half in with the Sportster S. The old clientele isn't going to entertain that bike. Its plastic fender and all.

I rode a VROD (the 1130cc with 115HP and 74ft lb torque) for the last decade until I got rid of it this year for the 21' SB. I can tell anyone who may think the SB with the 114 (90HP with 120ft lb torque) isn't going to have enough power. I have 1400 miles on my 21' SB, yesterday went a little hard off a start, spun the tire and when it gripped, the front wheel was off the ground! Not by much, say 6 inches, but that is the first time I've had the wheel of any of my Harley's off the ground. That bike continually surprises me. It is definitely the hooligan bike of the classic Harley styles. I highly recommend the Street Bob. It doesn't have the top end of the VROD, but it FEELS soooo much more powerful than those low torque numbers the Revolution engines put out. Lets face it, there is not enough road to need all that top end horsepower numbers, we need light to light power which then you need the 114. Besides with the wide tires, that Sporty is gunna have some troubles in the corners. She looks built to go fast in straight lines only, just like the VROD. The VROD could not hold a line in a corner if its life depended on it and the Sporty looks to be the same. I like where Harley is taking things, I'll just hold out until they have figured it all out first.

I think that Sportster S license plate and light holder thing looks great...after that huge plastic boxing around the lights are changed into far higher quality lights. Hey mate, regarding the rear light and number plate holder, incase it hasn't been said already. The sportster is conforming to standards required in many European markets, where the 'fender' has to extend beyond the rear wheel. They do that by making that rear section be part of the 'fender' it's ugly as sin but legally required in many countries, we see it a lot in Australia and everyone changes it immediately.

Great Comparison man. I literally just went thru this at the dealership.___ Been riding Italian bikes for the past 25 + years. Had a 92 Sportster back in the day but I was doing a lot of track stuff and the sportster had to go. I always loved the look of Harley’s but they just kinda didn’t fit what I was doing. Anyway Fast forward to 2021 - Harley put the 114 motor in the softail frame - that had me doing some deep thinking. The other thing that got. me in the dealership during Christmas is the Street Bob has mid controls.. That was the only way I could make the transition to a cruiser. I’ve ridden some of my friends Harley’s over the years and for some reason forward controls always felt kinda F***ed up to me. Anyway when I got to the HD dealership the sales associate was real cool, we talked bikes for a while. He asked me if I had seen the new sportster. He put the bikes next to each other and I went over every detail. The sportster’s power is closer to what I have now, inverted adjustable shocks , more sport oriented cruiser, etc. There was a lot of reasons on paper why I could have easily went with the Sporster. Bottom line - that Street Bob is Seriously F***in Beautiful. Clean and Mean. Plus - That motor in That Frame ⁉️ A few tweaks and this thing is a F**kin Animal😈❕ I think you did an excellent job at describing the real differences between those 2 bikes man. The Sporster is bad-ass , no doubt, but for me in the end - it HAD to be the Street Bob 🤘. Later Brother - EXCELLENT COMPARISON VIDEO ✅

I have a street bob and both of these top out at the same speed as a 400cc unless you throw quite a bit of money at the street bob and at least a tuner on the sportster s

Fork boots have been a standard in pretty much all classic motorcycles. How could you not like them? Weird.

That's what I like them on, classics. haha

Great overview. There are import bikes that have the same rear fender deal. Maybe its a work around for some laws about the fender and rear wheel protection or just a way to keep the tail clean. Let aftermarket work it out. lol

Street Bob, but the sportster s is growing on me. I like the tank badge on the sportster s.

Im also tempted, instead of trading my RGS for a RG ST. To just buy a Sportser S and have two bikes.

I like everything about the way the s looks even the license plate mount it looks futuristic if you like the bobber better my guess is your either older or grew with a dad that had Harley’s and like the old look

I don't think these bikes are competitors at all. If you want an around town cruiser get the street bob. If you want cruiser style but with performance, technology, features, modernity, and to keep up with some naked sport bikes, get the sportster s. Personally I would get a softtail standard AND a sportster s if I could.

The Sportster S has nothing really going for it in my opinion. It has abandoned the classic Harley styling, and it also lacks the performance and handling of similarly styled bikes in the same price range. At least the Street Bob doesn't portray itself as a performance motorcycle, people are paying for the classic Harley look. The Sportster S doesn't live up to the hype.

Sportster S vs Fat Bob would be fun, similar aesthetic

Comfort and easy to ride torque, or lively light weight urban ride. Both great machines for what they do. Ride Free

Hmmm i dont understand the comparison … one is a crusier one is basically a naked racer(hidden in a crusier suit) in the way the bikes behave…and performance… In cash they are the same, but its like comparing a R7 to a 883 Hd… due to price tag..🤔

Very good comment about respect if you are a beginner. I drove high powered bikes many years ago and I’m about to get back into it but in order for me to stay safe I know that I have to respect the bike and my environment it’s absolutely crucial. Having said that I’m in New Zealand I’m trying to get one of these or an Indian Scout bobber. Shipping is just insane nothing is getting here spirit lake just say sorry”perhaps next year” and pretty much the same from Harley. It’s so upsetting because I love both bikes the Indian and the holly. So now I’m going to just go for the DiavelX.

That street bob with a stage 4 131 walks that sportster with no available options though. You’re talking 140hp/150tq to the wheel then. That would be what I did if I wanted the performance and the classic sound

Here’s why the Sportster S isn’t a great motorcycle… it has no purpose. Meaning, you can’t tour on it, it’s not a track bike, it’s not for customization, it’s not for beginners, it’s not a heritage replica, it’s not an adventure bike, it’s not really anything…. I guess if you want 120 hp to ride around town for 30 minutes at a time, then it’s your bike. Other than that, there’s a better option at that price point for every style of motorcycling. I like my street bob because I’m growing with it… if I get power hungry, I’ll just go stage 2 or stage 3… if I want to do light touring., the road warrior fairing has me covered. If I want to do big miles, I’ll get an FXRT fairing. Bags? Plenty of options. More comfort? It’s upgradeable. The sportster s isn’t great at anything really besides making power and you can’t make it become anything else.

While I agree with your points, it does have a place. HD had to be responding to the Indian FTR when they made this. There are groups that do that type of riding. Im not one of them either but I do see them. I also work for a power sports company and see a few models come in there that are the same, not designed for anything other that just spirited riding for lack of a better term.

@@throttleblip9854 I hear you, but an MT09 SP or a Ducati Monster 1200s is just much better suited for that. If you’re going to be dragging knees in the canyons, you don’t want a 28” seat height and forward controls. I do think Harley can make an amazing sports bike with this platform. This isn’t it….could you imagine if they put forwards and a 28 inch seat height on the Pan Am? It would have been a complete dud. I see they wanted a scout competitor but they should have just built the Bronx… probably would be a pretty awesome contender in the naked category

No way Sportster 1250! Sorry about that, but I'm the old school guy and I would never choose you over a classic HD! Heritage, Road king, deluxe, slim, street bob, forty eight, seventy two… this is HD!

Wait a sec, 150lbs it a massive difference - it's like adding a passenger. People spend $$ to loose 1lb on a bike, the sportster and that new engine is achievement for HD and that is one of the fastest bikes they have ever made. Shame they are so hard to get right now
