Same quality issues in both since they are based off the same platform and assembled in the same facility by the same people. The HR-V tallying up to $30K is one reason Acura never brought a CDX here.

My wife and I just test drive both of these cars and we both felt like the Crv was a lot more comfortable. The Rav4 we tested was a XSE blizzard pearl with midnight black trim. Its a very sexy car but it all ends there. The chairs for me weren't as comfortable as the CRV -EX- L. The Rav4 also lacked memory adjusted seats. You would have to upgrade to the Limited for that. You also would have to pay after a year for some of the safety features that come standard with Honda. No remote start on the XSE trim which is included in the CRV Ex-L. Another place that Toyota took shortcuts was not being able to fold the second row from the back of the car. You would have to go around and manually fold it in the XSE trim. The CRV-EX-L actually has lever on the side in the back where you can pull them. The front passengers seat is also manual adjustment vs the CRV you still get electric adjustment seats. We got offers for 39,000 drive out for the Rav4 and 33,200 drive out for the CRV. For the price difference and lack of some features that were important to my wife, we went with the CRV-EX-L. The Rav4 in my opinion was the better looking car but not worth the price difference due to the lack of of features.
@leootp22

I really wanted to get the Rav, but the CRV won out for many of the reasons you mentioned. The Rav looks better, but getting nickle and dimed on those features wasn't appealing. The other thing, and I don't see this mentioned enough, is the gas tank issue. Without a solid fix and no ETA on when one might arrive, it was a hard pass for us.

The RAV4 hybrids AWD system does still work if the battery 🔋 is low. The rav uses a dual electric motor Planetary gear set, so it can drive the car with one motor, and engine power, and with the other electric motor it can generate power and send that directly to the rear electric motor/and battery if necessary.
@PP-qj1ez
@PP-qj1ez 4 жыл бұрын
Even if that's true theoretically, I would argue that the AWD feel and total power output to each wheel would be much on the lower side in comparison with CRV hybrid with zero battery.
@andi-ih3jj
@andi-ih3jj 4 жыл бұрын
Actually there are 3 electric motors in the RAV4 two to drive the the front and rear wheels seperatly and one that can act as generator and drive the vehicle backwards because there is no mechanical rear gear. So you have the internal combustion engine and the two drive motors at the same time. Also Toyota never ever lets the drive battery go empty as soon as it starts to seemingly be depleeted it will be recharged so there is always enough electricity to drive front and rear electric motors. Also the Rav has less power to the rear wheels but this is just by the design of the drive train the electric motor in the back does have less power than the combined engines of the CRV which can send the power completely to the back but this is not better or worse this is just different and it depends on your usage what is better for you. More power on all wheels or better mileage per gallon.

Although Sofyan didn't mention it when he was discussing the backseats in both cars, it appeared that the CR-V's rear doors opened much wider than did the RAV4's. This would make entering, exiting or placing child seats in the CR-V much easier.

Sat in both rear seats. Did so in a side by side comparison. Sold new Honda for 6 months recently. Personally the rear seat of the honda seemed to have a lower floor relative to seat height. RAV 4 to me has a shorter dimension from seat to floor thereby lifting my feet and placing my knees slightly into the air and worse pushing my lower back into an awkward angle. Having said that if kids primarily sit in the second row or I was more focused on front exterior styling or a lifetime fan of Toyota brand would likely get the RAV 4

Bought a RAV4 Hybrid Limited in July. Have never gotten the sticker MPG. More like 30-32 city driving. Bringing it in for a checkup in a few weeks and will see how they explain the low mileage. We drove a CRV before we bought the RAV 4. RAV4 has more cabin noise than the CRV. Our Subaru lease ended and we tried the new Subaru. Drove well and quiet but we opted to go for the better milage from the RAV 4 which in hindsight we are not getting.

I realize it can be obnoxious to leave constructive criticism in the KZbin comment section, but as someone who sometimes listens to the reviews while working on other things or listens to the audio of the videos while walking home from work, it would really help if the videos said the model of the vehicle instead of saying "this car" has X , but "this car" has y, since it means I'm constantly having to look over (or opening the video app on my phone) to see what vehicle is being referenced. Nevertheless, these are great reviews, and I appreciate them.

Originally I planned to buy a CRV or RAV4 gas model. The CRV drove quieter, faster, and smoother. Then I saw vids about making sure to test drive the RAV4 hybrid...and I’m so glad I did! It drives better than the regular RAV4. I would’ve given the CRV hybrid a shot because I’m usually a Honda person, but there’s no spare tire! What?! I’m sure they’ll add it when they redesign, but I don’t feel comfortable getting a vehicle without a spare right now. Toyotas have great resale and the hybrid is not much more than the gas model. I’m loving it so far. I chose a RAV4 Limited AWD Hybrid.

@vladbarbu 4 жыл бұрын
When there is not enough electric current in the battery the front electric motor-generator will work as a generator for the rear electric motor so you get AWD all the time. That's also the way it splits power in the AWD mode, by feeding less power to the front wheels and more to the front electric motor-generator to power the rear electric motor.

I used to own only Honda's. However, I noticed 2 things...when the mileage got up to 100K they would start having air conditioning problems, the kind you don't want to put $ into at 100k miles, and that timing belt (as opposed to a timing chain) that cost $1500 to replace at 100K was a stupid and expensive move. So I switched to Toyota's. Have never regretted it. They run forever with no maintenance. No timing belt to replace. No electrical or airco problems. I have had 5 trucks from the no name 1986 through the T100, 2 Tundras and now a Tacoma, and my wife has had 2 Highlanders and now the new 2019 Rav4. My daughter has an older Rav4. Absolutely flawless vehicles. You know how when a newer car gets a glitch people justify it with, "oh well, all cars have minor problems!!" NO THEY DON'T. Toyota's don't. The AWD-i System on the RAV4 will never EVER shut down due to a low battery. The RAV4's Inteligent Power Module will always make sure the battery is charged enough to power all of the electric motors. Just know when the Energy Monitor shows only 2 bars left of charge, the battery still has 40% charge left and the Intelligent Power Module will always start a recharge the second the battery hits 40%. The RAV4 also has a Planetary Power Split device that can activate at anytime to turn engine revolutions into electricity and send it right to the batteries or directly to the electric motors, whichever the IPM calls for.

To me the new Rav4 looks very awkward on the side both ends tend to dip towards the middle. I expected the pricing to be similar. I don't agree with the reviewers evaluation of the $5,000 difference which is considerable in this price class. Don't overestimate the convenience of a lower load floor in the cargo area. I pick the CRV-V as the winner.

Comments mention the spare tire and MPG, but let's not forgot there are various aspects to what makes one a better car for you. Some factors that are often overseen is how much smoother, the engine sound, overall ambience, handling, and significantly sportier the CRV is. The only other car I test drove that came in comparison was the CX-5, which I didn't consider as it cannot reguarly give 35mpg like these two can. If you want every single mpg, tons of features, and want the most practical appliance then Rav4 it is. The CR-V will be for those who want more sporty fun, better design, better quality materials, and more while being in the same MPG ballpark.

It's a bit of a tough choice for me, but I think I'll take the RAV4 XSE Hyrbid over the RAV4 Limited Hybrid (and over the CR-V Hybrid shown) mainly because I love the glossy black accents and the sporty appearance. Don't get me wrong, both vehicles seem to be very solid and will undeniably sell tons of units, but I just prefer the RAV4 ever so slightly more. Honda does not call it a CVT because it DOES NOT HAVE any transmission. The emotors drive it until a certain speed the the clutch pack can link the 2l engine to the wheels with a direct drive. When the speed drops it is all emotors and when it goes above a certain speed it’s all emotors. It’s actually a very cool system. Very different than the RAV4. it's completely the other way around lithium ion batteries are by far less reliable than a NiMH batteries. There are known Toyota hybrid batteries with more than one million Kilometer and only about twenty percent of the capacity lost on this distance Just think of Boing having some of their planes grounded because they went from old technology batteryto lithium ion batteries and why are you not allowed to carry lithium-ion batteries on airplanes as soon as they go over 100Wh capacity? Because they are dangerous and may explode which will almost never happen with a NiMH battery. The main reasons why lithium-ion batteries are used is because they can be recharged faster, have a higher capacity with the same weight and can be discharged faster. The Maine usage for them is in Plug-in hybrids even Toyota uses them in the plugin prius but they are not always the best choice.
