Hey man love your videos. I’m a college student, but I love cars and watching reviews on them. I really appreciate your videos because I never know what you’re going to review because unlike most review channels you don’t just focus on new cars. I want to get into reviewing and recording and stuff but being a broke college student, I don’t have access to many cars. How did you get started and what are some tips that you have for someone wanting to do start out reviewing cars?

Thank you! The tip I have it to just go out and make a review. Worst case scenario, it's practice for your next one. Just make as many as you can and you'll learn with each one and find your unique voice. In terms of finding cars, I started off with asking my parents, grandparents, friends, or I even rented some cars just to get content. Zip car is on some college campuses or just Turo. Once I had a decent library of reviews, I went around to dealerships offering free advertising in return for letting me borrow their car. I still use that method today. I walked into Toyota of Naperville 3 years ago with a printed resume and now I have filmed over 100 cars from them and I film there almost twice a month.

Great review as always Zack! I was looking to buy a Kona in November’21 but when I looked at the competition I felt like the Kona was small on the inside (me being 5’4), and it led me to getting my ‘22 HR-V!

We had a 2019 Kona SEL in white and absolutely loved it! Unfortunately, we HAD to sell it due to problems it was having burning through oil every month. As nice as these Kona's are, and they are very nice, Hyundai has had continual problems with their Kona's burning through oil. Our Kona burned through just over one full quart of oil every one and a half, to two months. We were working with our dealer who put us through oil consumption tests which are very arduous and inconvenient for the car owner. Ultimately we were told that according to Hyundai, our Kona consuming one full quart of oil every two months was within their normal operating standards. Based on this and all the articles I found regarding this issue about Hyundai and their engines, we decided to sell it and move to a more reliable brand.

Oof my 2000 4runner had a oil burning problem for years. Smoke would erupt from the hood. I just recently got it fixed finally. We thought it was a more expensive fix than it actually was. But that car was over 15 years old when that started. A 2019 model having oil burn issues? That's a nope. If they let that be within their standards I hesitate to see what else they let slide. Hyundai and Kia seem to struggle to make ICE cars after decades of building them. I doubt their EVs are worth their salt.

I love my 2020 Hyundai Kona SEL Plus AWD. I’m at 25k miles and have had no issues.

So I hate to report it but I traded it in on a new Honda Passport Trailsport. The car had 36K on the odometer but I got nearly 20K USD to trade it in so I could not turn that down. I miss the Infinity audio system which is superior in every way to the Honda stock audio system. I babied that vehicle and got the 30K mile service and at the end she was not burning any oil and was rock solid. Whoever bought her got a great vehicle.@@steveaustin544

@@steveaustin544 I ended up trading it in December 2023 for a 2024 Honda Passport Trailsport. The Kona was rock solid even at 37K miles when I traded it but I babied it on the road.

You ending is great. So many car folks don't look at a sedan, hatch, or wagon and realize how impractical it is for a car to be that low. People don't buy sports cars. They need good comfortable transportation. A sedan is just too low to be practical compared to a crossover.

(Stay with me as you start to read this. It COMPLETELY ties in to the Kona) First up. I'm of Portuguese heritage, a Canadian born child of Portuguese immigrants, therefore I'm familiar with the language including it's slang. Secondly, Portuguese is the 4th most spoken language in the world, in large part because of the reach of the former Portuguese Empire around the world and it's many former colonies. Factoring that, whoever responsible for naming the Kona, gets a chuckle from Portuguese speakers around the world, since Kona(though spelled differently, but pronounced the same) is Portuguese slang for, well, the vulva. Yes female exterior genitalia! I still remember when they announced this car, my Portuguese friends and my self did figurative spit-takes and said "THEY CALLED IT WHAT?!?! LOLOLOLOLOL!!!"

Yeah my Brazilian friend laugh when my other friend got a Kona. To me and my friend were confused why he is laughing. Then he told us and I'm like wow. I thought it's more Hawaiian word.i think they changed it to Kauai.

I don't understand why Kiyundai puts the back turn signals low in the bumper away from the brake/tail lights on all of their cars. Other than that this is a decent car. The screen looks a little dated, the UI looks a bit old for 2017 when these came out. Remember when the current pre-facelift Jeep Cherokee and the Nissan Juke came out and everyone hated the eyebrow lights? If they'd come out today with that styling no one would look twice. Eyebrow running lights and weird shapes are mainstream. A family friend leased one of these in that green. He and his son weren't particularly small and they found it a little crowded when they were both in it. Wikipedia lists these as subcompacts. This is really just a lifted hatchback, but if Hyundai had tried to sell it as a hatchback they wouldn't be able to give them away. Give it some bigger wheels and some cladding and a slight lift and call it an SUV and watch it fly off the lot.

I would never get one and I don't necessarily like suv/crossover vehicles but I was also curious about the Kona as my neighbor has one, at least the price is reasonable for a new car

At 8:58 why do you want a 12V outlet in the trunk? You have one in the front already.

I had a 2022 Venue for 4 months, then somebody rammed into it while it was parked in front of the house i. December. I liked it a lot, especially at that price point. It was totaled. 😔 I got a 2020 Kona SEL on Saturday. I like it too. The Kona is heavier & you can feel it immediately. You just have to test drive both.
