Hyundai (and Kia) absolutely nailed these. It’s hard to find something in that segment/price range that even comes close. You guys mentioned the new Explorer. I was really looking forward to the refresh, until all the reviews came out. Now, the GV80 is what I REALLY want.

I am a Canadian so you know I am supporting this channel one hundred percent. Love both prefer Palisade. Very important is no rear heated seats on Telluride except top tier. But the inside of the Palisade is so good I just love it

@enchiladabonito66293 жыл бұрын
Nice review. Alas your prediction was incorrect - Palisade is pretty much unchanged in its offering for 2021. It's really not the same bloody vehicle - same platform, engine, and transmission but I think the different look will appeal to different buyers. The Palisade gives up the shifter for more storage space, it also has a + safety rating compared to the Telluride (based on headlights) which may appeal to more families. I think it's good they don't match up in terms of features - for example folding mirrors are fun (Telluride) but not a deal breaker for me. I also prefer a shifter but will be happy not to snag my purse strap on it every time I get out - more storage for the driver area is a win - I can deal with the push button. It also puts itself into park if you forget (who would, but you never know!). Same with the rear occupant detection - if it saves even one child's life it's worth it. I think each vehicle fits a niche buyer and they were smart not to make them identical. Makes the choice between them difficult, but it makes the buyer wonder what is a nice to have versus a need. Given that both models are nearly sold out at any dealer you go to tells me the formula works.

Obviously the biggest differentiating factor between these two nearly identical vehicles is the "vibe" each presents. The Palisade strives for a "near luxury" presentation while the Telluride, while definitely upscale in its top trims, presents a more "rigged" vibe. That difference is more than a simple choice between designers. It stems directly from the different national markets at which each is aimed. The Telluride is a near North American exclusive vehicle, built in Georgia and available in the US and Canada. The Palisade is built in South Korea and aimed at practically every other international marketplace. The competitors for each vehicle is quite different. North American consumers can choose a variety of mainstream 3 row vehicles the size of the Telluride. Alternatives include vehicles like the Highlander, the Pilot, the Atlas, the Ascent, the CX-9, etc. Those vehicles are either minor players or simply not offered in most of Asia and Europe, (The Telluride is not available even in Korea.) Instead, the primary market for vehicles the size of the Palisade internationally is made up (mainly European) luxury brands from Audi, MB, Range Rover, Volvo, etc. European shoppers for "mainstream" SUV's typically opt for smaller vehicles. The Palisade offers a rare large SUV at a less than luxury price. And in Asia where middle class consumers is a rapidly growing market segment a "budget" version of a large SUV has a strong appeal both for its functionality and the status it imparts. Bottom line? KIA wants to tap the huge mainstream 3 row SUV market in the US and Canada. Hyundai designed the Palisade to take a chunk out of luxury brands and attract budget constrained luxury shoppers in markets where more expensive vehicles dominate the 3 row market. Being a US resident I was interested to hear some of the configuration differences between the Palisade and Telluride in Canada. Many of those differences don't apply in the US. The most import is that FWD versions are available at all trim levels of both vehicles in the US. Other minor features are part of specific trims in the US while offered as option "packages" in the Palisade in Canada. Such national differences are not unusual but they do make exact comparisons more tedious. :) As far as a preference for one versus the other, I'd opt for the Telluride. That's mainly based on its styling. Hyundai's design language typically strikes me as "fussy." As if the designers finished their job before the vehicle was passed to one final step where a committee adds some bulges and creases just for the helluvit. Second, Hyundai apparently finds diamond faux quilted upholstery suggests luxury. It reminds me of my grandmother's sofa from my childhood. But those are subjective judgments. A couple of other features, though, are less a matter of taste. The Palisade's headlights are mounted just above the front bumper, a design choice that appears to have been pioneered by the Pontiac Aztek and shared with some other more recent vehicles including the Nissan Juke and the Jeep Cherokee (now abandoned). Apart from it being a questionable styling choice (imo), it makes the headlights considerably more vulnerable to rocks and pebbles fired from trucks and other vehicles ahead of the car. Being a resident of Washington State where the spring thaw brings many tons of them down from the Cascade mountains, that's a definite issue. If I lived a few miles north in BC, I suspect I'd feel the same. One notable but I think questionable luxury feature of the Palisade is its motorized third row seats that can be raised/lowered with a push of a button. Not only does this feature make a hobby of watching paint dry seem like an active pursuit, (It has to be the slowest such mechanism on the planet), it reduces the cargo space behind the third row to 18 cubic ft compared to the 21 cubic feet of the Telluride. Unless is 3 ft tall or have arms like a T-Rex, the straps and manual push/pull mechanism of the Telluride seems more sensible. Of course, none of these mainly subjective deficiencies makes the Palisade a bad choice for a midsize three row SUV. Whetherthe Telluride or the Palisade, each sets a bar that rivals struggle to meet.

The best part of these reviews is that it gives two different perspectives on the same vehicle by two people of opposite gender.
@gs989994 жыл бұрын
Zack, the Blind View in dash monitor comes on the top and 1 below top trim in Canada. As far as trims, we found Telluride and Palisade were priced basically the same in the top 2 trims. Kia does have that EX trim that's cheap and well equipped, but plastic seats were a deal breaker on that one. So in the end it was between SX Telluride and Luxury Palisade. Bought the Palisade as wife much preferred that styling. I think top trims of these two is where they excel in the class. The lower end trims I don't think are worth it, especially the Palisade, because at that point you may as well look at base Atlas, or even Ascent base model, as that one is a bargain at under 40k in Canada.
@eleanormassaro51954 жыл бұрын
To me, the main mismatch of the Palisade from the Telluride is you can get power-folding mirrors on the top trim of the Telluride, but the Palisade does not offer that on any trim. I prefer the Palisade, but am bummed there is no power-folding mirrors offered on it.

The Palisades do have one nice feature that the Telluride does not, which is the power folding third row seats. No need for a manual chord pull to lower those seats. Same goes for moving the second row seats back and forth using power push buttons. Not to mention the reclining third row seats which can be adjusted with the push of a button. How long are you planning to keep the vehicle before switching out? If it's within 5 years, I would choose Palisade or Telluride because they have more safety features and technology advancements. If it's much longer than 5 years, like 10 years, then I would choose the Pilot because I know it would last longer and hold its value better - but it must be a long run-way because you're losing a lot of features when going for the Pilot - i.e. no 360 camera, no ventilated second-row, no heated third-row, no digital rear mirror, smaller infotainment.

Head-on ....I notice every Kia Telluride I see on the road. And everybody talks about the Kia’s looks, whether be its ‘stoic’ look and its headlights. For the Hyundai... You guys make a common mistake about the trim levels in the Palisade by saying you can only get features like the wireless phone charging, larger screen, etc in the top level Palisade for $50k, but that it's standard on the Telluride at $45k. Not true. You can get all these features and more in a Palisade with SEL trim (a ~$30K car) with the convenience and premium packages for around $40k. Or, you can get all that and more in a Limited Palisade for about $47k. Options on the Telluride cost a lot more.

But since my first service at 6000k I am been complaining about NVH levels during braking from speeds 120 to 80kms. I will feel vibrations in the floor and hear some noise. Kia changed the front and back rotors. Problem goes away fro about initial 700 -1000 kms and shows up again. I am totally fed up. Starting to feel I got a lemon. So going forward will buy a Hyundai Palisade instead of Telluride even though I like the rugged look of it.

Hyundai has much stronger engine called Q engine, I think. I wish they have some van with such engine which has more than 400 Hp. Then its towing capacity will be almost 8000 lbs. This is desirable because we need some van for daily use, which can be parked inside garage. Most camping trailers are pulled by pick-up trucks, then pickup trucks cannot be parked inside garage but on the driveway. Also, pickup trucks are not good for daily use. I wish I can see some minivan with 400 Hp, with towing capacity of more than 7000 lbs.

I need a 7 seater. I guess reliability I've been afraid of Kia and Hyundai. I guess Hyundai is better in that respects?

One of my cars is a fully loaded Santa Fe XL Ultimate, when I look at the Palisade I think "white collar" when I look at the Telluride I think "blue collar". Also KIA's atrocious badge doesn't help, they need to change it ASAP, that big "KIA" just seems cheap. I swear if KIA got rid of that awful badge their sales would go up 20%.
