I'm a 56 year-old woman getting out of a 2009 Volvo C30 t5. Like you, not your typical buyer profile for this car. I bought the 2020 Hyundai Veloster Turbo package specifically because it didn't have four doors. Two-door hatchbacks are hard to find. This vehicle is the most fairly priced for what you get and the performance. I love the third door and the value is it prices better on insurance. Asymmetric three-door design is the best thing about Veloster. I'm 6'4" and prefer large driver's door. Compact hatchbacks can have large driver's door in 2 doors configuration only. But 2 doors configuration is not practical for passengers. Veloster gives you large door for you and additional door for your passengers.

Great review! Hyundai did an AMAZING job with this car and it sounds so good! This car and the Type R was on my 2 car short list for our second car. We ultimately went with the Type R because we got a great deal on the Type R and it was available. I was literally on the phone with the Honda dealer and the Hyundai dealer on the same day. They did not have any Veloster Ns in Performance Blue like in this video and for us that is the only color we wanted for the N. What Hyundai did at this price point is amazing! In a world where people say manuals are dying and there is a push for cars to drive themselves I am so glad cars like the Veloster N and Type R exist now it is time for people to stop talking about "saving the manual" and actually go out buy these amazing cars with manuals. I did. Fun Fact, the crackles are useful. They are the result of the anti-lag system for the turbo. Well done Hyundai engineers! All this and the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty for about $30,000! Simply INCREDIBLE! Cars like this show that driving fun is not only reserved for the filthy rich.

I love the 3 doors on my Veloster N. They come in handy when you're as tall as I am. Im 6'6" and in most cars I drive I have to have the seat all the way back. and in a 4 door car that usually puts me behind the B pillar a bit makes a weird blind spot and makes it weird to get in and out of the car. But in 2 door cars I can have my seat all the way back and still be in front of the B Pillas, makes it way easier to get in and out of the car. But that's just me. I really like this car but having watched your previous Veloster turbo review I have some concerns. One, the blind spot from the back c-pillar. The N doesn't have safety options available like the Veloster turbo. You also mentioned how small of a car the Veloster turbo is. If I'm not mistaken aren't all the Veloster's the same dimensions? I will need test drive it to see if I will like it. I'm 5'10 so not tall like you.

As for the blindspots, they weren't bad bit not great. Good news is the driver side mirror comes pre-built with a blindspots mirror. I'd definitely put an aftermarket blindspot mirror for the passenger side tho
@npaul41714 жыл бұрын
It's definitely worth taking for a test drive. It's a very specialized car built specifically for a very specific audience, so it is most likely going to either be a great match for you or not a good match in the least. It's worth pointing out that the car is extremely basic in regard to amenities...it trades many of these amenities for performance features that most cars anywhere near this price range lack. So one question you might want to keep in mind is if the N's amenities are sufficient for you. For me they were more than sufficient as I didn't prioritize them nearly as high as I did other attributes, like driving engagement.
@FreeAgentDaBest4 жыл бұрын
The previous generation models were known for poor visibility and bad blind spots out the rear... I think I'd get a used focus rs. This car it's seemingly perfect from the factory and mods will just mess up the balance. Maybe a dsc controller.
@godblesshamas4 жыл бұрын
Whole point for me is you don't have to worry about voiding the warranty with the factory performance package. And quite frankly I don't want a used anything after this guy has been driving it for a year or two. Might buy a t-shirt to help him pay the speeding tickets though. 😆

@@godblesshamas Absolutely, for those who need and value warranties this is a great choice. I take consideration into what I do with cars, which has always been to modify them.

I think Hyundai made an error when they made a techno rich N car. The real challenge is getting the same kind of handling and efficiency with out all trickery. I'm not a fan of the trick suspension when some quality progressive spring is enough. My old 1998 Civic had Pro-kit springs and huge dampening range that was super quick. With the front double-wishbone suspension and upgraded shocks, I could hop onto a curb at extreme speed with no drama. If the Veloster attempted the same maneuver, it'd destroy its wheel and front suspension. Also, if it's your daily ride, u want it to be predictable. In an emergency situation, you want the car to react like one of your own body parts, just like your legs would react if a piano was about to drop on your head. Having all these layers and layers of electronic and adjustability is going to put you in a situation where you're not in-tune with your ride. I feel at home in a more simplistic setup, when done properly like those old-school car from the 90s. My tuned 98 Civic had it and I feel like we're now playing catch-up to something that was already done.
@stevenlee98194 жыл бұрын
How would you know if this VN would destroy its' front suspension and wheels? Have you driven this car yet? Sounds like you're just judging this car based on the Hyundai badge. I don't think you know what you're talking about. Judging by you praising your own riced-out 98 civic for all its' glory, would you say the same thing if you compared it to the new Type R?

@@stevenlee9819 With my old 98 civic's front double-wishbone setup on progressive pro-kit springs and Tokico shocks, super stiff Toyo Proxes sidewall (195/50/15) on Konig rims, I have not encountered anything remotely as capable in the extreme. Perhaps N or R can handle that kind of abuse but I wouldn't bank on it. I put over 250,000km on said setup and handling was still above 95 percent with same components and no accidents. I haven't driven an R, but I'm very impressed with my current daily, 2017 2.0na 6MT civic (this car drives better with traction control off, but not completely for those oh-shit moment). Anyways, doubt the R could turn-in as fast as my old tuned 98 Civic.
@psewgobind4 жыл бұрын
@Chuck Towers You're right for a controlled race track, for the rest of us who have to daily our car on the streets, I disagree. Still, my old setup with front & rear double wishbone could not get upset even though it's not dropped. Honda probably knows, since they created the Type-R, but if you needed a test mule to come-up with ultimate front drive, it's a tuned 90s Civic. btw, I got my drivers licences in 1986, but would steal my dad's Dela 88 Brougham well before that.
