This was mentioned before by Geese, but it's so disheartening that Hyundai and Kia are now making great cars, but the dealership experience is unacceptably horrendous. I've visited 4 different Hyundai dealers and every one of them was a nightmare. They all left a bad taste in my mouth and I ended up going with a different brand.

so sad to see. i've heard the stories and read about them and just don't get it.. literally insert "take my money" meme to any sales person at the dealership.. gotta say i'm a MINI owner, fanboy and big reason is that my dealer in MN is great about customer service. last year when i got an oil change, i got a 2018 Countryman w/the JCW Sports exhaust kit as a loaner.. low and behold.. 3 months ago i went back in and traded my R58 in for a custom built 2020 MINI JCW Countryman. custom orders are no problem w/MINI. hopefully Hyundai gets their act together cuz i loved the original Velostar but didn't get one at the time due to low hp and sports feel. but now i'd consider it if i was a younger man. hehe

Yeah, it's a great car but I went with the GTI because it's cheaper and a better overall package for sure. But if you want raw performance with the compromise of drivability and practicality, refinement, etc. then the N is for you. I also appreciated the much better aftermarket on the mk7 GTI and the better potential of the chassis and MQB engine.
@meatblade3490
@meatblade3490 4 жыл бұрын
@@roboticvenom1935 n has superior drivability and the same practicality. GTI is for an older demographic that can't handle a more focused driver's car - same the people who pick an R over a TyoeR. One wants the reputation, the other wants the real experience. Which is fine, GTI sells incredibly well as the best Audi for the money.
@roboticvenom1935
@roboticvenom1935 4 жыл бұрын
@@meatblade3490 No it's that they prefer it, it's a daily driver at the end of the day. It's not even close in terms of interior, quality, refinement, etc. Not to mention the extra has mileage which saves loads of money every year, and the N costs more money. If you're into tuning the GTI motor, for one, has an actual aftermarket scene lmao and has crazy potential for tuning, unlike the N which is at its limit not conservative like a proper German car. That's why the Focus ST gets left in the dust by the GTI. It's an overall package, and when you consider price, the GTI will win most of the time hence why it's still recommended and is the go to.
@meatblade3490
@meatblade3490 4 жыл бұрын
@@roboticvenom1935 Wrong on all points. Proven in stats, multiple trusted reviewers and owners. It's fine to be an older man and like a car that's appropriate for what you can handle. You don't need to be insecure about needing a GTI. Have a good one, watch the corners ;)

For me it's not just Hyundai dealerships that are awful, Honda and Toyota(these are the only brands I'd ever consider) have been horrible to me as well. Last time I bought a car at a dealership was in 2005 when I bought my Scion xB..two guys were jerks to me even though I didn't haggle for the price. Therefore, from that day on I swore I'd never buy from a dealership again..and a few years ago I added "I will NEVER step one foot on a dealership EVER again". No buying, no maintenance, no inquires, nothing nothing nothing. I gought my Civic Si from a friend for 15K and it should last me many years of enjoyment. Doing ANYTHING that involves a dealership is an absolute SOUL CRUSHING EXPERIENCE..and guess what? it's fun to drive past so many dealerships and realize "it will NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!"

I own a PP VN so I'm probably a bit biased, I do disagree with a lot of what this guy says. This car gives a Type R a run for it's money for being almost FIFTEEN GRAND LESS considering the new special edition CTR price. All the money/R&D went into how this car drives, hardly anything else. You don't buy this thing for a nice cabin interior. It drives like the best FWD hatch all the while being FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS LESS. If you can, go out and drive one.

I've bought three new Hyundais from dealerships in the past 12 years, an Accent, a Veloster Turbo, and a Santa Fe just recently. My experiences have been great with my dealers. Not sure what the hell is going on in the midwest as I bought the first one in Florida, Veloster in Colorado, and the new Santa Fe in Virginia, and they've all been helpful and let me test drive whatever I wanted. They all were open to spending time answering my questions, respected me when I said I didn't want to pay for a bunch of extra dumb shit I didn't want or need, and when I was ready to leave they of course wanted me to buy, but weren't too pushy or anything and just gave me their cards and asked me to call them when I was ready to come back in.

if I had to guess, some dealerships do not want their top of the line sport-focused cars driven hard. They have such a limited allocation with the Veloster Ns that they can't afford to have their stock ridden hard and w/o lube. I had a subaru dealership state to me that they don't allow their WRXs to be test driven. And I'm a middle aged guy with no points on the license and a great driving record. (I'm about as low risk as you'll get for an interested WRX buyer). I won't buy from dealerships that won't offer up a test drive.

They shouldn’t have to be Genesis dealers to not be awful. I live up in the Blue Ridge Mountains so it’s not like we’re in an affluent area or anything and I buy Fords. Our two Ford dealerships have been great experiences every time I’ve dealt with them. I hear the same thing about our Toyota, Honda, Chevy and Ram/Dodge/Jeep dealerships. Yet our Hyundai/Kia dealerships are universally panned by everyone that lives here. They each have under 3 stars on google reviews and those reviews are full of ridiculous horror stories that you would only expect to hear about the most sleazy used car lots. In a Southern US area where word of mouth seriously matters, they just don’t sell that many vehicles around here because of it. They are making great cars these days but they have a serious corporate culture issue in their dealerships that they need to address if they’re serious about shedding their reputation from the 90’s and early 2000’s.

Find the car for 30k WITHOUT all the performance stuff... you can find a VN WITH the performance pack for 29.5k. I feel like this was a poor review whereas your guys' content is generally pretty good. This is the best car on sale for under 30k, period. This car's truest competitor is the Golf GTI which costs 4k more for the gti with the lsd. And this car still blows that car out of the water with it's performance and warranty. Comparing this car to a Type-R should speak for itself, no it nots as capable or as useable but it's $6,000 cheaper.

Yeah this review seemed kind of off for someone who is generally concentrating heavily on driving dynamics and engagement. The fact that so many compare it to the legendary (and notably more capable) Type R speaks to how well the driving experience in this car has been nailed, as it would otherwise not even be compared. It is such a different animal than other Veloster models for that matter. It's far from perfect, but it accomplishes what it sets out to do spectacularly well.

The poor dealer experience is what keeps me away from Hyundai/Genesis as a whole. Almost as bad as a Hyundai/ Genesis dealer telling you that you need a hard credit check to test drive a 3 year old pre-owned car & advising you to go to another dealer to test drive a car. The dealer experience from any other manufacturer is vastly superior.

I own both type r and volester n. Your comment is 90% correctly, but two points are not very true. Firstly, the type r is $10000 diff by MSRP and about $20000 diff when I purchased two cars. Type r markup, VN markdown. Secondly, reliability wise, VN wins a lot! Not just a little, it’s huge. Maybe the reason is type r built in UK while VN build in Korean. If type r is affordable for u, then buy it since it also became a financial investment. I made $4000 by driving a year of type r.

I did 6.3 sec in a veloster N with 250hp stock (launch.control - mechanic transmition), so 6.8 sec on a performance package, dual clutch it can be possible minimal you get 5.6 sec, i saw many videos ( both versions 250 and 275hp) and the media throws that results, you need to destroy the pedal ( in the good sense my friend) And finally you can improve the car with intakes, downpipes, intercooler, ecu system ( at least $3k) and you'll get easy 310 hp. That veloster N is a colection car now, cause' Albert Biermann ( bmw M)leaves hyundai 3 weeks ago, but hyundai goes working with him as a coordinator. But thanks for the review, sorry for my english, i live in chile and sadly the 275hp doesn't arrive. greetings 😊✌🚘

I’ve beat many v8s and Si’s gti’s. And also can get get 34+ mpg. When hitting corners it almost feels like it’s an all wheel drive vehicle away it sticks and glides over corners. It’s got more features than I wanted/expected but for the money it was well worth it. One day I’ll trade up for the 2021-22 N. But for now I’m super happy with it. I went to test drive the KIA Stinger GT and was told we have no GT's for test drive, I said you have two, one in the showroom and one outside. Was told that was for serious buyers not just people testing cars. I said good bye, I will spend my money where it is appreciated. Just an FYI I pulled up to this dealership in a two year old Dodge Challenger 392 6.4 liter Hemi that is loaded, and I am 36 years old with a good job, I wasn't some teenager looking to go for a joy ride. I was interested in the Stinger because I read great reviews and it had All Wheel Drive. Wanted it as my winter car, Oh well they did not get my money. I wrote a letter to corporate, no response. Geese is right about this, anyway great honest review as always, I have to say Geese, even cars that I am not interested in, your videos are educational and fun to watch.

Your dealership experience was really different from mine. They brought one out, adjusted the seats for my tall wife, handed me the keys and said see you soon. I had a similar dealership experience to yours at a local VW dealer, will never go back there. That's one thing many reviewers miss when doing the Veloster, just how roomy it is in the front. I'm just a touch under 6ft and fit in most cars easily. My wife is 6'1", and there are a lot of cars where she simply does not fit. Most of the Subaru line up, much of the Mazda selection, Cr-Vs, Sedonas, Corollas and Jeeps, and surprisingly a lot of Dodge trucks, and we both get comfortable in a Golf but neither of us have head or leg room in a Jetta, those things are for tiny people. But she had tons of room in the Veloster. I'd Love a Type R, but in all honesty, if I lived in the city right now, I'd already own a Veloster.

Glad to finally get your perspective on this car. I hate how most people on KZbin continue to compare this head on to Type R's performance wise when there is this huge difference (Especially being a Type R owner). What this car wins in is the value and more conservative styling like you stated. Scott?!? Hello?!?

This is more of an old school car because of the analog hands on the tach and speedometer, plus the “Nixie tube” radio interface only someone old enuf to remember the Apollo missions would be familiar with😂jk

17:15 Yeah that auto rev up when releasing the clutch thing. I don't think the production cars got that. My N certainly doesn't have it. In fact, some owners that have driven manual for years, including myself, end up killing the car the first whole week we had the car. It felt like re-learning how to drive stick shift again. 21:21 Understeer, it's partly because of that pavement. You really can't jerk the wheel hard or you will end up understeering. Even happens to the RWD folks. Slow, smooth inputs to get the most out of the front wheels to grip the pavement. I've uploaded a few events on the Motorplex if you want to see what an N with 71Rs and a bigger rear bar can do. To me, what made me purchase an N was because I wanted something that was more car than a Civic Si, Focus ST, and even Golf GTI. But just couldn't justify the price hike of the CTR, RS, and Golf R. This car is a nice middle ground that the other 3 manufactures left a gaping hole open for Hyundai to take. Coming from a Civic Si, it was definitely a worthy upgrade. As for dealerships, I had the best experience with mine. They gave me a little more on my trade-in (like about $700 extra) and they negotiated with the bank to get me a better financing rate than what was originally offered. It all probably just depends on what dealer you go to as the ones up here in WI are willing to let you test drive the car. Like these cars are not that special. Fuck dealers that won't even let you drive these cars or are even marking above MSRP.

Yours might be broken....I have a 19 n and the rev blip is definitely there it actually made me stall way more than needed as I always thought I was giving it too much gas and back off the throttle.

@@jawsilent13 Correction. I do have it hahah. I just never noticed it since I blip the throttle and give it some gas over 1kRPM before I even release the clutch. I've had this car for 12k and never noticed it and it is so minor that it doesn't hinder my driving. Just how I've been driving manual for the past 12 years is all.

I have bought two Hyundai vehicles from the Westley Chapel, FL dealership... Both times I had a great experience. SO I think dealership experience depends on the locations.

It’s funny that you mention the dealers. A while back, a friend and I went to check one out at a local dealership. We were really looking at it closely (like way closer than anyone would typically look at a car) and they left us alone for the most part. Their effort to engage us was, “Hey! Want me to grab the keys and rev it for you guys?”. We were like like please no. “Are you sure? It sounds sweet bro!”. No, we don’t want you to start this car up cold and rev it in your indoor showroom. Thanks though.
