Best part is that you didnt have to do this review coming from R6's and Street Triples but you did it ! Thank you Adam ! I own a 2019 Duke 200 that i bought after a 12 year wait due to football injuries and other reasons, but I absolutely love it. Moreover, it has made me a better rider. Great review, and gave me a good feeling for how it handles, and what it feels like. Admittedly, I puckered up a bit having ridden for almost 30 years in a state that doesn’t allow bridging gaps. 😂 I normally ride an 1150gs, but it’s just too big anymore for the traffic in metro denver, and I think the little duke will be a perfect city bike. Your review confirms that. -Looks like it’s incredibly easy to throw around without much effort. They targeted it for beginners, but I think it makes a LOT of sense for experienced riders who are just looking for a commuter bike. Thanks for the thorough review, and ride safe.

This bike will push more sales of the 390 then the 490 when released. Americans love to default to the "middle" package for cars and other large electronic/appliance purchases so now the 390 wont be the smallest offering and will make people more comfortable of buying the medium sized bike. genius...

It’s great. Very easy to handle, takes corners really nicely, breaks feel solid, and the ergonomics of the bike keeps me riding for longer periods. Takes off really well and shifting is a breeze. I even enjoy taking her on the freeway. The seat is 50/50, it doesn’t bother me or some of my friends at all and feels pretty comfortable but there is also a few of my buddies that don’t like it after about 45 mins of riding. The range with the tank is decent as well. Plus every time I think the bike can’t give me anymore I get surprised as she just keeps giving. When you can’t stop smiling when riding you know you got a good bike on your hands. All in all great beginners bike and even seasoned riders will have a blast on the Duke 390. Highly recommend this bike to any and everyone!

I know there was issues with the previous yrs (17-19 if I’m not mistaken) for the Duke 390 but I believe they addressed those issues with the 2020 model. I haven’t had any issues and my sales rep even included and 5 yr extended warranty for the engine with unlimited miles for me just to be on the safe side. As for the RC390 I have heard that has had it’s more than it’s fair share of issues which kept me away from the RC all together. I didn’t even wanna test ride it because of all the issues I’ve heard with them. Thankfully KTM is coming out with a revamped RC390 in 2022 that is suppose to address those issues plus give a nice upgraded look. Awesome to hear you’re getting another bike regardless of make and model. Anything with 2 wheels and an engine that goes with the twist of the wrist is good times. Stay Safe and Ride Vigilantly!

I bought a leftover 2023 Duke 200 in October of 2024... it was on sale, price reduced by $1,200, sold to me for $2,999! This bike is incredible fun, and I am turning it into a Sport Tourer. Windshield, LED Headlight, Engine Crash Bars w/ Highway Pegs, Adjustable Clutch & Brake Levers, 45 liter Aluminum Top case, T-Rex Racing Luggage Rack, Nylon Saddlebags, KTM Handguards, 12 Volt SAE to USB phone Charger, power outlet to plug in my Firstgear Heated Jacket, and soon, a T-REX Racing Centerstand... I've owned over 20 bikes in the last 30 years, and this is, by far, the most fun I've ever had on two wheels! Yes, it can ride at Hiway speeds, but I have found its sweet spot is 55-65 mph. I'll be crossing the US, mainly on backroads, as I enter my retirement years in a few months. I don't need to ride at 100 mph anymore! Ride for the enjoyment of riding, slower pace, on a lightweight bike, getting great mpg's, and loving this sport. I can't recommend this Duke 200 highly enough! I was the owner of a 2014 Yamaha FJR1300ES, so what does that tell you?

I bought one in Australia a few days ago, I don’t know where you get some of the facts from but some need to be reviewed. The seat height IS the same as the 390, the size and all dimensions are the same. Almost all parts will swap over to the 390. Swapping to a aftermarket exhaust is impossible currently as this bike uses a completely different exhaust layout than the other smaller Duke 125 to 390 models. I am looking to see if the aftermarket exhaust from cylinder head back can be made to fit. (So exhaust goes over the top of the motor like a 390) this will increase the ground clearance by 100 mm. I work at a KTM dealer, will keep investigating:) Just fitted a 15 tooth front sprocket, now can use more of the gears. Do not recommend if living in a hilly area as first becomes very tall.

@vintagetintrader1062
@vintagetintrader1062 4 жыл бұрын
@@tyler7659 yes, they are a small bike but have a real big bike feel, brakes/steering/gearbox/suspension tight and light. As long as not having a lot of freeway with a 110 kph or 70 mph to do it’s a fun bike. I’ve owned a ZX7r, CBR600f4i, GSXR600k7, MT07 and now 50 years old. Been without a road bike for 4 years. It’s weird to go up 6 gears to 70 KPH, any of the above bikes would still be in first

Lets be clear, KTM has designed and sold the 200 Duke for Asia where it has been sold for years, importing it to the USA was hardly much effort and helps to justify the higher price of the 390! In many SE Asian countries sub 200 cc scooters are the norm, so by comparison, the 200 Duke is actually a performance bike!

Thank you KTM and Adam Waheed for such an awesome and relevant motorcycle/review! This little bike IS the gap filler between “mini Moto” bikes that can’t do highway speeds safely and boring “commuter” designed bikes - Adam gets it - I can’t understand why the majority of the motorcycling public shuns a model such as this; it retails for “grom” money but it’s still a fun bike that can do highway speeds all day - while looking stunning and competent handling all at the same time - well done - I hope we see a LOT more bikes like this in the future - they just make sense in this ever more expensive world… fun at the same time responsible - great review!

While you might not be aware of it, but the Duke 200 engine is older than that of Duke 390's. It existed even before Duke 390 came in this world. It was in year 2012 that KTM partnered with Bajaj in India and started producing Duke 125 and Duke 200 at its Chakan plant near Pune. Since India is a price sensitive market, Duke 125 was not launched here at that time - only Duke 200 was launched and it became an instant hit in India. Duke 200 won the hearts because of its manic performance(for its class) and the unbeatable value for money. Encouraged by the success of these models KTM launched Duke 390 in India and other countries in 2013. Duke 390 proved to be an even greater value for money in Indian market and it immediately became the darling of biking enthusiasts in the country. So the bottom-line is -> Duke 200 was born in the year 2012 and Duke 390 in 2013. But of course in US market these bikes came much later.

The 200 IS basically a 390 engine with a big fat lining pushed in the barrel to reduce the bore to 200cc. The head stud spacings is huge for its bore size, I’ve looked the parts breakdown at work. (KTM dealership)I would love to see if the actual head and barrel from a 390 would work on a 200. I guess this is why there seams to be a lot less mechanical issues (with the older 200) as it’s unstressed.

@@vintagetintrader1062 That's good to know. I've always liked the 390 but never seriously considered getting it because of the reliability issues. If the 200 is essentially a less stressed version of the 390, then I wouldn't be worried buying one.

@@mazdaweeb3 but the 2020 duke 200 is different from the older once. You might want to look it up the difference between the old and new. It's like the v2 of duke 200 is an entirely different engine from the older version so KTM hasn't seen yet the flaws of the new engine that they made. This is not to discourage you to buy one but I'm just stating th fact that the 2020 duke 200 is not the same as the older model.

Im currently a duke 200 owner but the older version of it so I would suggest you buy a 390 as an entry motorcycle, why? Because having the 200 for a year would want you to go for a higher cc. It's quick when your'e still not used to riding but once you get used to riding it you would want to get rid of it ASAP. So 390 is more suitable for an entry level motorcycle. I'm defiantly looking to get something soon and was looking for a bigger displacement in the 900cc realm, but just love the 300 class bikes too. Thank again and hope to hear from you. Thanks for the thorough review. I'm a daily cruiser rider that needs something for in town because I'm tired of dragging. This seems like a fun, cheap little ripper and there's a used one for only 2k near me. Funny how easy money flies away when you're into bikes.

This bike is a hoot...plus you can get out the door with EVERYTHING for less than $4000 (setup, tax, tag). No body offers this value which is why the Ninja 250 WAS the go to for new riders and cheap new bikes. Dealers are coming way off the MSRP and this bike is worth your while. My dealer came down to $2799 sale price.

No wheelie test? Great looking bike. The smallest Dukes look better than the big Dukes. It’s very odd. Also, this small displacement isn’t a bike that anybody asked for. The 390 would be more popular if it was reliable. It also has a relatively high seat for a beginner’s bike. Hopefully this new engine is more reliable than the 390. The dash on this 200 is terrible. It looks straight out of the 90’s. My Grom has a nicer dash. I’d love to test ride it though.

@TheImtoomuch
@TheImtoomuch 3 жыл бұрын
@@Conorsprints I'm not sure why. If you can ride a 200 you can ride a 390. A 200 would be boring in 6 months or less. The 390 would probably get you at least to a year before you want a better bike. If you're in the US take the free motorcycle licensing course. You get a taste for riding without having to buy a bike. And if you pass the course you get your motorcycle endorsement.
@Conorsprints

@@Conorsprints you're welcome! I'm not 100% sure. I'm in Pennsylvania and the classes are free. Here they provide the motorcycle on which you take the course. @@graysonhardy2139 The current 125 Duke (sold outside the US) is a full-size bike though, right? If so, I don't think it would be a real competitor to the Grom/Z125/Monkey. IMO, those bikes are fun in a way that a full size bike can't really replicate, regardless of engine size.
