Most excellent job! Thank you. Concise and yet detailed. No BS small talk that consumes time. I gotta get one of those vacuum things, though. Saves a lot of time and effort! Thanks again.

Excellent video with just the right amount of detail. I purchased the same extractor on Amazon and just did my first change with zero drops spilled! Thank you.

Thanks for the video, this is just how I change oil on my Mercedes. When you pour the oil, if you turn the container horizontal it will come out smoother and less chance of drip/spill. Eventually you won't need the funnel.

Glad it’s not just my P400 that sounds like a diesel! Tools ordered to change mine. Thanks for sharing. I could only stomach putting about 10-12k on it. No way I’m waiting 20k either

Big thanks, I'm looking at the 110 to replace my E350. I don't really want a SUV but I do require a 7 seater now and I really like this new truck.

@ubonfante excellent video! Did not know you had such hidden talent :). I will take a page out of your book and also start my own channel. Documenting some off road trails. Very informative video! Now to do my own oil change soon for my Defender.

Umberto. Have you tried the bigger hose to wedge in the dipstick pipe and create suction more like on the LR4 use to do with that built in hose? Over the smaller hose all the way to the bottom.

Maybe a stupid question, but did you happen to trade this Defender in with ~41-42k miles on it in mid-late 2024?

Gotta be the Volvo SUV’s with the inline 6. These GM filters aren’t even that bad. You gotta get it from the top/under the hood

why not measure the pump hose with the dipstick to be sure it was near the bottom of the sump?

Thanks for the video. Did you warm the engine prior to the oil extraction?
@ubonfante3 жыл бұрын
Yes (I think I mentioned it in the video, prior to opening up the hood), engine should be warm and the oil should be allowed to settle for 10-15 minutes or so prior to extraction, so most of it collects at the bottom of the sump and can be vacuumed up. With a "room temperature" engine, you could still extract it, but since the oil viscosity would naturally be a bit thicker (not much with these new thin oils though, they almost feel and look like water out of the jug!), the process would take quite a bit longer.

I have been doing some research on oil for the new Defender and it look like the new Spec is STJLR 03.5006, not 51.5122 which I think its old from 2018 and prior. I am not sure what the diff is but the new LiqiMoly Top Tec 6600 and Castrol Edge fluid Titanium 0w20- EC are the only oils that have this particular approval. I am going to get the same OEM oil pump as you so I don’t have to climb under the car and having to remove all these covers.
@ubonfante3 жыл бұрын
As of today's date, the specification page in JLR workshop manual for the 2020 Defender P400 here in the US still states the type of motor oil required for the 3-liter I6 Ingenium petrol engine is "SAE 0W-20 oil conforming to Jaguar Land Rover engine oil specification STJLR.51.5122". The owner's manual indicates the other specification... My conclusion is that the two specs are likely interchangeable and both will conform to JLR's requirements, so you should source whichever spec is easier to get in your neck of the woods.

@@ubonfante Just got this back from Castrol today: Castrol EDGE Professional EC 0W-20 replaces Castrol EDGE Professional E 0W-20. Castrol EDGE Professional EC 0W-20 combines the cold climate performance of Castrol EDGE Professional E 0W-20 (STJLR.51.5122 oil spec) and the fuel economy of Castrol EDGE Professional E C5 0W-20 (STJLR.03.5006 oil spec) into one product. Currently Castrol EDGE Professional EC 0W-20 is only available for purchase through Jaguar and Land Rover dealership locations. Castrol EDGE 0W-20 EC (replaces Castrol EDGE 0W-20 E) sold retail in a 1 quart bottle size is also available covering Land Rover STJLR.51.5122 and STJLR.03.5006 oil specifications.

@@tomlee9183 Tom, just FYI, there is now a Mobil 1 synthetic oil version that also covers both STJLR.51.5122 and STJLR.03.5006 specifications, it's called Mobil 1 ESP X2 0W-20. You can find it from several sources (so far only in 1-quart bottles), including Amazon. @@ubonfante Does the Liqui Moly used in your video cover the new spec? Is there a risk in using it on my 2021 Defender with the P400 engine?

Wow. 21k miles seems too long in between changes. I would probably go 10k intervals. Maybe even less. That's just me.

For those of you who are wondering the oil filter cap is a 27/mm wrench. The toque required should be on the cap itself. Recommended oil type should be on the oil cap itself. Thank me later. !!
