2020 Low Rider S with S&S Cycle 475 Cam and Vance & Hines Staggered Short Shots - Dyno

A local customer brought his 2020 Low Rider S into the shop looking to boost up his hp and tq numbers. We deiced to install the S&S Cycle 475 Cam while keeping the rest of the motor stock.
A few weeks earlier we had installed a set of Vance & Hines Staggered Short Shots which made a huge improvement to the sound. That exhaust paired with the 475 cam makes this motor sound super chunky.

That is some GODLY improvement with just a cam change/tune. Now imagine a 2-1 exhaust instead of short shots. Plus the idle is just perfection.

This was my bike I had a 2-1 prior to the short shots and the numbers were the same. So went back to the louder pipes and get lowered sold me 2-1 for me.

I have a 2020LRS, and with the k&n air cleaner, TAB slip ons, and dynojet retune I'm making 120tq from 2000 to 3000rpm. But it decreases after 3000rpm. I'm honestly impressed with these short shots and the fact that the 475 cam keeps the torque band all the way through to 4500rpm. In my opinion, I'd rather have a constant torque band than a dip in RPMs. Definitely worth the money for my riding style.

I have the same cam coming in my low s 117. The bike was in the shop but I’m waiting 6 weeks for the cam. I’ve watched this video 100 times haha. If it’s not this lumpy I’m going to cry. It sounds amazing

Damo how did your sound end up turning out? I’d like to put this cam in my M8 107 and I’ve seen other videos like this where it sounds amazing, and I’ve also seen other videos claiming to have the 475 cam and I think they sound like garbage lol. I’d really like to know how yours turned out

Congratulations. Very good results. Maybe should go ahead to 6000rpm. The hp curve looks still ponted up at the end.

I just had the 475 cam installed on my M8 114 Fatboy, with 2-2 Big Radius custom modified to have the same satin finish, and it's effing loud....If a stage 1 is about 105db, stage 2 is about 120db....I can't even imagine how loud short shots would be with a 475 stage 2!!!!

@@Dozeball I've got the exact same set up (the 475 is getting installed as I type this), but I was told that the torque under 3500rpm is going to be trash because of the pipes. Has this been true for you? How does the bike ride with that set up? Cheers

@@romeanaya7637 Yeah, mate, if you're thinking of doing this upgrade...DO IT! What I was told about the torque under 3500rpm being crap was absolute garbage! With my 475 cam, big radius pipes etc. it pulls like a freight train right through the rev range more so than stock (obviously it does pick up more, the higher up in revs you go). Just take it easy on wet roads lol. The sound is soooo loud, but sounds soooo good too

hi i have the same exhaust on my Fxlrs 2020 stage 2 with a SE 462 cam. i had stage 2 done in march 2024. Since then my bike has been with HD because there struggling to tune my bike correctly. My bike is unrideable at slow speeds. bike just judders and it just wants to go. So in traffic its terrible. also back fires a lot every time the accelorator is released. Can i ask if u had ur bike tune by HD or DynoJET.?

I'm really confused why you only took the engine upto 5k rpm. That cam can make power above 6k. I think you are actually making about another 10hp more than you show.

What Exact S&S 475 cam is it ? The Torque cam or Horse Power cam ? In other words do they produce the same results?

There is only 1 type of S&S 475 cam and either chain or gear driven. I believe you are confused with Screamin eagle cams as they offer either a Torque or Horsepower option.

It depends on a few factors, obviously....Personally, I liked the aggressive loping idle sound of the S&S 475 cam....The woods cam and the redshift cam had too close to 'normal' or too potentially annoying an idle sound for my taste....Anywho, My 114 M8 Fatboy with the 475g cam after extensive dyno, produces 127hp and 136 ft/lb of torque with the stock high flow air filter and V&H Big Radius 2-2 that I have had a ceramics guy shine down to a satin finish to match the bike.

Very much like what you have done. I would be interested to know what map you used or did you have a custom map made? I’ve just had the S&S 475 fitted to my FXDR But am struggling to get it to run right. Very jerky on a constant throttle below 2500 revs. Very noticeable in the lower gears. Mine has been flashed with the dynojet power vision map for the 475. I’ve got V&H Big radius exhaust and Screaming eagle heavy breather plus the 475 cam.

Go FP3 vance and h ines tuner can send them your map and what you got bolted on and they send you a wicked map too suit worth every penny

465 would offer more TQ and a bit of a drop in overall HP. Either would be a good option. 475 has a more aggressive idle sound to it.

A decent map from Dynojet for your set-up and a Target tune system would somewhat OK, but still not ideal.

I just got S&S kit installed Oil pump with 475 cam and push rods. Dino shows 112hp and 120tq but on a seat does I don’t feel that power. Now I have les throttle response. Tuner is TTS tuned by Harley dealership any idea guys ? May be they should adjust throttle response ?

What exhaust is on it? It could be the throttle sensitivity also. I'd ask the dealership or whomever tuned it.

I guess My dealer did bad job on TUNE Your Dyno Shows Steady Horse power and TQ going up. My one Drops at 3k to 4k to 99TQ also Horse power is 60 up to 3.5k than its starts to go up. They are blaming my TBR 2-1 Turnout wich does not make sense. Turnout is updated version from TBR and 2-1 still would have more TQ than just regular 2-2

Just had 475 s&s cam push rods lifters and v&h wide radius exhaust put on. Also got power tuner. Harley did the work but they don’t have a dyno so have been “mapping” it. So far they have had to replace the O2 sensors and plugs. As well as “remapping” it 8 times. It’s back in shop now. I’ve asked them to take it to put on dyno but they haven’t yet. Have you heard of any problems like this with this set up?

It just needs to be tuned properly. It's most likely set up too rich in the idle/low load area.

128 on my Road Glide with475 is 130/144. But I have longer primary exhaust pipes, 64mm TB ported intake 6.3 injectors. S&S Stealth Air Stinger

Im the owner. I had tbr 2-1 and swapped to the short shots. Both were dynoed with the same exact numbers. No difference. Except the sound. The vance and hines is way better/louder. Hope that answers your question.
