I’ve got mine last month and can say that you guys just nailed it with this review. Everything mentioned including the Pros and Cons are true and relevant. The entertainment system is not the best and sometimes hard to navigate but driving is a pleasure. This is my second GLC 43 AMG and I was really considering an option to go with the 63 model but could not convince myself to spend another 30K for a daily commute and weekend escape vehicle.

13:10 you asked why the 43 doesn't have a launch control: Most Mercedes-Benz 63 models use the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G tansmission. This uses a clutch instead of a torque converter. The 43 and 53 models allways use the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission with a torque converter. For real launch control you have to use a transmission wich a clutch.

I know this video is a year old but another awesome review fellas! I just placed an order for a GLC43 to replace our 2021 SQ5. I also have a 2020 X3 M40i, purchased based on your review(no regeRts). Also previously had a 2016 Macan S. Having had almost all of the German "Fast SUV's" I gotta say the M40i and GLC43 are probably the best "all-arounders" in this class. *EDIT*: I'd also like to add that when we got our M40i and SQ5, the GLC43 was excluded because I hated the previous AMG grill, the weird star/dot thing. The new GLC43 with the Panamericana grill made all the difference!

That parametric grill is where it’s at. Love the AMG43, such a fantastic car, having driven both, what surprised me the most was how different the AMG43 steering felt. I loved it. It feels so fantastic. Love the M40i as well. For some reason the AMG43 felt faster just driving around. No idea why as they are so close in 0 to 60. But I’d happily own either vehicle. You still enjoying it? A bet you are happy you got that before the redesign when they make the AMG43 a 4 banger with an electric motor. Shoot me now. Also the GLC43 has the best sounding exhaust of any compact SUV today..everyone else’s got so quiet.

@@TheLumberJacked I don't think the GLC43 is necessary faster because on paper, it isn't. But the GLC is more wagon-like with a slightly lower center of gravity and stiffer suspension than the M40i. So you can definitely feel that. Yes, still enjoying the GLC43. But in February I realized that this might be my last chance to buy a new ICE powered M-Car so I placed an order for a 2023 X3M and picked it up 2 months ago. Replaced the M40i so enjoying the X3M as well. 😄

The trackpad's fine when you get used to it. I really like that you have a choice of using the trackpad, touchscreen, thumb controls or voice for pretty much everything. Plus, there's lots of real buttons that let you go directly to the commonly used screens. I don't see any other system out there that matches that.

Sure, the Macan S handles way better, but is it just me or does the Macan also feels absolutely muted in comparison to the GLC43, or even the X3 M340i? Like the powertrain just feels kinda slow in comparison, and the sounds it makes aren't even close... And the interior is quite behind the GLC's too, despite both being due for a redesign. Even as the biggest Porsche fanboy, I've always wondered why reviewers seem to prefer the Macan over everything else in the segment. Could someone elaborate?

@@hugolafhugolaflol. I love this. Yet how many house tuners do special editions for ford and chev and other brands and it becomes super special because they strapped a super charger on it. Those engines weren’t hand built and the ZO6 engine isn’t hand built…and most very desirable performance cars don’t have hand built engines and everyone gets all horny about those ones. But for the AMG43…nah..not hand built. It’s not real. What’s funny is the engine is only a part of it, look what AMG does to all of the other parts, same things as they do for the AMG63. But the 43 isn’t special enough…so it’s not real. Lol. It’s an engine…AMG is really at its core about the everything else they do to them to make them monsters. If an AMG designation started and stopped with hand built engine, they would be fast but really crappy handling vehicles. So in all the ways that actually matter..it’s an AMG…and whether someone put their hands on the engine or not, it’s a DOPE performance engine and makes it go like a bat out of hell. People are just crazy now a days…people who don’t even own performance cars are like, “Yawn…its not an AMG63…meh”. I’d be happy with this AMG43…so very happy.

I don’t really care for what constitutes a « real » this or that, but Mercedes themselves seem to make it conditional to the engine being hand-built. I, for one, don’t care, and if they called it a GLC450 or whatever, I’d still want it, as it is my next vehicle anyway, in 2024. It is a great balance of performance and luxury. Sure, the 63S is crazy, but I don’t need a supercar engine, 285 (or is it 295 wide) rear tires, a race mode, and supercar-esque insurance premiums on what is a daily driver in a country where it’s winter 5 months a year. The GLK250 is awesome and hopefully, so will the the GLC43.

I agree, just because the engine isn’t hand made doesn’t mean everything else they did wasn’t through and through AMG. It has monster brakes and the trans tune is amazing and the suspension is phenomenal. It literally does all of the things. That said, I agree that if “hand built” is more real than real AMG, this isn’t then…But every other time a company takes an existing car and tunes it, replaces parts, modifies it etc etc etc and makes it better, it gets called “special” and “performance” and every one ohhhs and ahhhhs…well that’s at AMG did to this…they did everything and even more than companies like Rousch racing does to mustangs or “name tuning house here”, then everyone gets hot and bothered…but in this case…people are like, “yeah, it’s not a real AMG” pffft and move on. We have lost touch with reality or people have spent zero time in them to be able to be dismissive of them IMHO. Sigh.

Picked up a ‘20 GLC43 a month ago and I love it. I get where you’re going with the review, but you can’t draw comparisons from the GLC63 - that’s apples to pineapples. Fair review, but you kind of dogged the 43 with all of the 63 references imo. Either way, I love this thing

And as far as the infotainment, I like it a lot, except for the inability to switch between preset stations easily (as you pointed out). I'm hoping Mercedes fixes that with an over-the-air update. Could not agree more. Being a reviewer is hard because you need to view vehicles in isolation and against direct competition. These guys tend to be so geared towards sports cars that now they are comparing the 43 against a 63 like the 43 is somehow a half step. It’s widely agreed that the 43 is basically the perfect balance. Fast, snotty, planted, luxurious etc etc etc and more importantly…the goldilocks pick. The 63 is a beautiful engine, but it’s so over the top all the time. The duality of the 43 is it’s greatest strength. It does both snotty and relaxed so well. These guys seem almost bored when testing regular vehicles and it’s foolishness because people buy to their budget and and get excited about the vehicles in their budget. If you drive every “normal” vehicle like you just stepped out of a Ferrari and have deigned to grace us with a review of a peasants vehicle…well, they will lose viewers. The issue is this. These guys don’t seem to be aware of the “Hedonic Treadmill”. The biggest danger to any automotive reviewer is falling into that trap and not meeting the car and the viewer where they at. Being a good reviewer isn’t about test driving fancy cars, it’s about caring about the vehicle in front of you and recognizing that the customer for that car really cares about that vehicle and not the one it doesn’t compare to 2 price levels higher. That said, the AMG63 is amazing, I would very much enjoy it, but those engines have their own sets of issues whereas the AMG43 is pretty damn nailed down with a great engine and reliable tech. The 63 is a whole other nightmare. Anyhow you made great points and you are 100% right. Having spent sometime in the AMG 43, I absolutely loved it. 1000% more fun than most vehicles on the road. You can either learn to be happy with a vehicle and appreciate it for what it is or jump on the hedonic treadmill with the rest of that sorry lot.

The pops and crackles are more irritating than any others that I have heard. I don't get why these reviewers are so head over heels in love with pops and crackles in any car but especially this one. I have a 2008 C 300 V6 manual trans that I bought 12 years ago and it has a nice pleasant growl from the exhaust that you would swear is a V8. Alas, no pops nor crackles to the dismay of all the reviewer sheeple that get off on that.

Of course it is a real AMG. It is the entry level AMG, but it has all the AMG perks, except the one man one engine thing... not so important... something has to be done to cut costs. Who cares if the engine has been put together by a machine or a man?. Talking about cutting costs.... The engine IS the main thing when you are purchasing a AMG. The fact that it is hand built and pushes insane power and torque is why some people, usually enthusiasts are willing to pay the premium. Thing is you can drive 600 horsepower car like a 385 horsepower car if you so please but not the other way around. It's not a real AMG unless it has the hand built engine, end of story. People who have the money to buy such cars do care if the engine is hand built or not, trust me. No different than BMW cars with a M badge that are not really M cars. I get it, they want to sell to a niche market, but don't call this a AMG, that's just a insult. I'm not a fan of this strategy, it dilutes the AMG brand and apparently the symbol can be slapped onto any car. Sit in an AMG, drive it, push it to the limit, then hop into one of these, there's a massive noticeable difference and you'd be a fool not to notice it.

Karan Saili I raced someone in his C63 6.3 a 2012 model with my GLC43 AMG SUV. It was at a stop light and he asked if I’d love to play to 70mph. I said sure. We both gunned it and he was a full car ahead when I caught up to him at 50 mph where I left him 2 full car at around 80mph plus. He pulled next to me and asked if any mode was done to my truck to which I replied no. He said he didn’t know the 43 series move that fast And sounds very good. I said his sounds way too loud braaahhhhh. He gave me thumbs up and made his exit. Now how could my 362hp beat 456hp car which even weighs less than my truck? I bought my truck new $75k fully loaded and could’ve gone with 63 but just don’t like heavy nose and lack of everyday drivability. Great review as always! We had a GLC 43 off-road a few weeks ago and found it to be less capable than expected. Of course with it being and AMG the off-road package wasn't available.

Great review, but you guys really didn't point out that the steering wheel has that Blackberry style scroll pad on it as an alternative way to navigate through the infotainment screen as well. I tried it out and works better than the big touchpad below. You guys are awesome!

I'm so sorry you guys don't like the MBUX infotainment. I'm the opposite of you in that I think the MBUX with the new menu layouts and trackpad is SOOOO intuitive and easy to use, and BMW's iDrive 7 is actually very complex and confusing. I wish I could be there with you guys and just at least give a different perspective on certain things! Seriously, to me it is far and away the BEST infotainment out there.

Not sure why you guys care so much about launch control. Realistically no one will actually use the feature. I could care less about the gimmick features on the car and rather learn about how it actually rides, handles, the value for money and how it is to live with day to day. I've been watching you guys for years and there's not nearly enough criticisms in most of your reviews. I love the cooled seats in my glc43 amg (2018). They work great 👍 Seats and a ride overall very comfortable for daily and cross country. stage 2 ecu tune makes it so much more fun and way quicker at near 500bhp/500tq. Low 4sec 0-60 Plus removed governor.. the infotainment and nav system is not my favorite.. but burmaster is sounds sweet.. I like the rims on the 2018 slightly more.. they just look better than the new ones, at least to me. The previous Diamond grills are so much better looking than almost anything else out there. However the new grill is mean, also like the new steering wheel in the 2020.. the new lights design I don’t care for much. Overall a very fast and great little suv Debating to get a new one or switch to a X3m when the lease is up

@@matthewgateoperators2406 still have the glc43. And I still love it. For the summers I picked up a c43 cabriolet. unfortunately it is not optioned the way I wanted but it is still the v6 and overall a great ride. I’m glad I stayed with the more comfortable AMG’s.

Have one of these. Drove this, Audi SQ5, BMW X3 40i. Merc drives the best, has the best interior, looks the best on the exterior AND at 1-2 year used is second cheapest (BMW loses its value bad). The Macan is better but it’s 25% more expensive. I am up in a ski town in the Rockies, only have room for one car and this thing does it all. Airport run, snowy drive to Denver, Home Depot run, cane it in sport+ on empty mountain roads in the summer, golf trip with friends, does it all.

I traded my 2016 C63 for the 2020 GLC43 and no regrets. I paid more for my fully loaded 43 way more than the C63 because I don’t want to look poor in the older C63 😂
