2020 Mercedes E53 AMG Sedan: One Year Review

Sharing some thoughts on my E53 AMG for anyone considering the E53. It is a great car with a combination of luxury features, style, and performance. A turbocharged V-6 engine producing 429 hp stock. With an electric motor providing up to a 22 HP boost until the turbo spins up to optimal speed. Which is more usable power than 99% of cars on the road. When you punch it in Sport+ mode, it moves. Has the Mercedes 4Matic transmission system. Meaning the power is assigned to all four wheels. So you cannot do drift mode or real wheel drive only like the C63s, E63s, or GT63s.

Good review, from the man who owns one. I’ve never heard about not seen the AMG projectors off of the doors. This car, or the CLS equivalent, is on my list.

Thanks! I'm just a normal guy trying to help. Far from an expert! The E53 gets dinged lots but it is an excellent car. Mercedes is moving in the direction of hybrid models. The chip shortage has eliminated delivery of new V8s. I tried to get a E63s and was told none would be available until 2023.

@@Project-qn9hn Yes, it's tragic about the V8's. Perhaps you'll buy a used one? I live in NY State so the rwd C63 AMG would not work--much as I would love that car. I have a '21 C43 AMG which I love. Beautiful car. But all the AMG's are something special.

@@adammarkowitz7944 In west LA I see lots of the C43 and 63 models. Very nice. I saw a kid wreck a RWD C63 leaving a car meet. Too much gas and the dragon was turned loose!

@@Project-qn9hn That's the problem, getting the power to the ground. In most conditions the C43 is faster, just due to the traction of AWD. But nothing sounds like that V8! That's why your E63 AMG would be such a great car....

do you think the driving assistant stuff is worth it? I got a deal on an E53 which has everything I want, just no driving assistant packages

I have the driving assistance package but never use it anymore. The first time I used the lane assist it freaked me out. If you start to drift it will apply light brakes and adjust the wheel. I didn't know what was going on and almost had a heart attack! Some assistance things I really like are the 360 degree cameras. Those have saved me during busy LA traffic many times.

I've only racked up 9500 miles in one year. Just completed the first scheduled maintenance. A1 I believe it is called. $350 at the MB dealership in Beverly Hills. No problems with the car at all so far.

@@Project-qn9hn Just came across your video. Man 9500 miles in a year that's like you take it out only on the weekends. When I've been driving around as an executive I put 70k a year on my MDX. Anyway I love these 53s. Gonna get one eventually. 😉

@@johnwilmington631 Two months after I bought it we entered the pandemic. So I didn't drive it that much. Mostly drove my truck or Honda Civic around LA. The V6 gets spurned by car performance purists. But the car is nice.

@@QJHKI I drive the Civic occasionally. It has sentimental value to me. That is why I keep it.
