I've recently had an Outlander PHEV given to me as a company car. Expected to hate it, yet within 24 it had redeemed itself and now I absolutely love it. If it isn't plugged in, I agree that the range is terrible. I always think ahead, as a result the battery is always charged and around town I never see less than 150mpg. For longer journeys we usually take another car as on one run we saw 35mpg, not really acceptable for us. Business wise I love it, personal wise I love it. Mitsubishi have made a car I'm proud to own!

35mpg isn't acceptable as a hybrid??
@theandersonfamily42454 жыл бұрын
I do a 35 mile commute (each way) and plug in at work. I get 100mpg in summer which is good and 65mpg in winter which is annoying!! . Smooth and comfortable. Nippy off the line. Slow acceleration at higher speeds. During the weekend I use zero petrol. 100% electric. However!!! In the winter the electric range drops a lot. The battery’s don’t like the cold at all. I really and surprisingly like the car. Buy nearly new and save a fortune. Ensure the list price when new is under £40k and only pay £135 tax. Amazing frugal motoring!!

Good review and thank you for giving lot of practical driving information it’s really helpful. I drive 100 miles to work 3 days a week. It’s mix of town and motorways, not sure how useful this car would be. I’m looking for a hybrid or self charging family SUVs. Any suggestions ?
@TheAutoDad4 жыл бұрын
The only viable alternative is the CRV Hybrid. That gets very good economy. However, if you’ve got charging facilities both sides of your journey - the PHEV is absolutely fine.
@sundeepjaiswal994 жыл бұрын
TomKentMusic thanks Tom so if I charge both sides what mileage would I get on motorways ?
@TheAutoDad4 жыл бұрын
About 54mpg if you drive conservatively I reckon.
@tomazjimo20834 жыл бұрын
owned one for a year, not a bad car by any means but the limited range of electric means longer journeys really do return terribly economy. i do like the outlander in general tho
@TheAutoDad4 жыл бұрын
What was the worst you saw? I like the outlander too!
@paulm24674 жыл бұрын
You should still be getting over 30 mpg which is pretty good for a fairly large SUV, if you don't do a lot of city driving it's probably better to go for a diesel but if you have a typical 5/20 mile commute and charging facilities available then you can run it in electric mode most of the time and save a fortune.
@britw51024 жыл бұрын
I really like how it looks and that interior is lush. could you have one without plugging it in much?
@TheAutoDad4 жыл бұрын
You could, but you’d do better buying a traditional engine variant if so.
@Secretlyanothername3 жыл бұрын
If you can't plug in, you're better with a regular hybrid like an Rav-4.
@chrissaltaur12543 жыл бұрын
Sorry, i want to know how much it would cost to charge the Outlander and at 1.55 into this video you confused me somewhat. Is it 100 pounds or 50p to charge? Obviously its not the former, but does it cost 50p? And if fully charged and the tank is full what would you get around town/city vs motorway driving?
@TheAutoDad3 жыл бұрын
Under a pound (not £100) :) Depends on your electricity tariff entirely.
@MikeStoddart4 жыл бұрын
Is it loud in the cabin on the motorway?
@TheAutoDad4 жыл бұрын
Pretty quiet to be fair!
@Secretlyanothername3 жыл бұрын
It's quiet. Less noise than in a conventional vehicle, since there's only the tires. If the engine is going (because you're going long distances), it's comparable to any other mid-range modern SUV.

As a '19 model Euro spec owner (13.8kWh and 2.4l engine) here are my top issues to add to this review: 1 - BMU issue - all have this issue (mine starting losing capacity after just 7 charges) 2 - Dealer / service support (after you buy it, no one knows how to work on this model - I have open tickets even in Japan with little or no success) 3 - very bad app that works only on WI-FI and can disable your alarm (MMC are at their 4th attempt and still 1 star in Play Store) 4 - engine works in Atkinson circle only below 2500rpm, so above 120km/h, I had fuel economy as low as 15l/100km 5 - 43 - 45l fuel tank 6 - Quick Changing stations only works at 1/3 (15 kWh) of they installed capacity (50 kWh) because of the small battery, this is the reason why it takes 20 minutes to charge with 25km 7 - Quick Charging to 80% battery capacity is actually 70% State of Charge of battery (Mitsubishi software) 8 - The battery can not be discharged below 30% (around 11 Amps) 9 - Charge current can not be set 10 - Max battery Amps that can be used when you quick change the car is 24 from a 46 battery 11 - Battery does not charge fully on below freezing days 12 - Real winter EV range as low as 17 km (Normal driving, heater ON), summer 35-40km no A/C or 23-27 with A/C on 13 - Very bad paint (already chips on hood and rust on hinges and beneath the car) 14 - NO where to put the phone 15 - Infotainment system freezes almost every drive 16 - Slope boot (everything comes rolling over you when you open it) 17 - Drives like a boat (especially above 90km/h) 18 - Beeps all the time 19 - Very expensive parts (Auxiliary normal 12v battery - dealer 1000 euro no labor) 20 - Ride is hard on bumpy roads 21 - NO automatically closings the windows when you lock the car 22 - Battery is air cooled no liquid cooled 23 - Electric tailgate is very slow 24 - Not all the interior buttons and switches are illuminated (lock / unlock, mirrors, lighter, etc) 25 - NO automatically unlock if you pull on the handle, you have to press the button 26 - SAWD is a joke, I got stuck in 4 inches of sand 27 - NO State of charge in percentage 28 - Initial EV range available on display is just a guss 29 - NO way to secure the chargin cable 30 - Type 2 to Type 1 charging adapter is needed Bonus : Battery can not be charged to a specific value (like 90%) only for a specific time (like 2 hours)

Craita, you again, also in this thread. Why are you posting in all Mitsu PHEV Threads such comments (even same comments), i think you are just frustrated cause of something different? I bought one, i have now 2TK kilometers, no issues with the battery, i charged approx. 30 times, still the same el. range. I can only recommend this car! Its a great car! I see here crying comments. Do not let yourself be falsely convinced. Make your own experience! It beeps when you power on, yes. Not all of these 30 Points are true and even some of them are kiddy like: i dont like the color... The car is really great! We always want to drive it, drive comfort is great! It has more than enough power. The car is economic! i am driving highway (in sport mode 170km/h), city, all terrain... until now i have 17KWh +3L consumption, which would mean: 17*0,27EUR + 3*1,3EUR = 8,49 EUR -> 8,49:1,3EUR = 6,5 L - all in one consumption! And again, i am not driving economical! in the city in el. Mode i get 15kWh, means: 3L of consumption. Just amaizing! There are for sure some negative points, like: it beeps when you power on, it beeps when the car is on and you open the door, when you can live with that...

@@gobro9555 First let me add that from my previos post I fought with MMC for a BMU update and I succeeded in acknowledgeing that there is an issue with 19 and 20 models BMU, second I had to paint the bumpers, rear deck and hood because of paint issues, and change the windscreen (it crackwd by its own during the night). And finally change the leather on driver seat because at 8k odometor it stated to exfoliate. Now, dear sir, you are not entirely honest and unable to even read my comment, no where in my comments is it written that I do not like the color, pls do not change focus from the paint is rubbish because it cracked by its own sitting in the garage to I do not like the color. Now I wait for rear left door to be painted after the car was washed in an automatic washing station and paint devolved chips. 17 kWh is at best optimostic, more realistic is above 20, I never seen the graphic below 20. And at 150km/h the fuel consumtion is 25l/100km (I have recoded evidence that the car is not able to drive 115km at such speeds with half of tank of petrol). You write you own this car, but I do not think you bought it now, insted I think is a second hand one that cost you 10-13k not 40k and that is the reason you are content with 20-30km range not 57 as advertise. You are also stating the confort is OK? have you even driven this car 500km in a journy? If not you are not allowed to make such statements.
@gobro95554 жыл бұрын
@@AndreiBuc we have driven over 400 km with it, no issues (very relaxed driving!). about consumption, i ment "over all", highway, city... all in one i have 17KWh+3,3L. When i drive only city i have 15KWh, when i drive city to city (100km/h) -> 20KWh. This car is very economic, its fact...i agree with you, when you are driving all the time 170km/h you will have above 20L. But this car is not for this drive style!!! Buy Diesel for highway. When you dont like this car, why you bought it, just for writing "bad" comments? sorry, but is seems to be like this. I wish you all the best with this car and even for the Future!

guys i have some updates to my Outlander: we were in Italy, driving 1100km from Germany to Toscana. Car was full loaded, add. with Box on Roof (100kg). I was driving in Save Mode. Consumption: 9.4L. 110km/h - 160km/h, mixed. On the way back i started 10am and was at home at 23:00. With approx. 3 breakes (1 lunch, 40min. approx.). After 1100km i was not tired at all, i could just turn and continiue driving. This car is not ok, not good, its just amazing and wonderful/relaxed to drive!!! no issues with power on the highway. Full loaded car, but you drive it just like its not loaded at all. no difference!

You are missing in your review the fact that this car loses the acceleration when is going up hills for more than 10 miles since the cell battery gets depleted and at that point, the fan stop working and gets overheated. Did you try to go up hills in this car for more than 10 miles?
@TheAutoDad4 жыл бұрын
I don’t think there are any hills near me longer than 2 miles sadly.

maybe you are right, i did not test it. Does it mean, the car is bad? did you run same test with other PHEV cars. Do you mean, it would be better? Example: Jeep or Volvo PHEV have 1.3L engines and same electro power as Outlander. With 1.3L you would have more issues by this test, agree?
@aguadulce84 жыл бұрын
@@gobro9555 I think the problem is in the design of the connections of the fan and the cell battery. If instead of connecting the fan to the cell battery they connect the fan to the normal 12 volts battery then we will never have this problem. I do not know if the other car manufactures are doing this thing or not but definitely the Mitsubishi PHEV has this problem.
