For a bike whose suspension travel suggests “trail bike,” the RIP 9 RDO has an all-mountain personality that truly stands on its own. The suspension is extremely plush yet supportive for a bike designed for riders looking for an ultra-nimble machine that rewards extra rider input. If you’re the type of rider who likes to choose your own lines and milk every ounce of variation from a trail, this could be the bike that will reward your efforts on the broad spectrum of trails.

Best format for a review ever ... very talented rider ... wicked trails ... warp speed ... you can just feel the bike working and the joy of it all. Great job.

Great review! I've always enjoyed this travel range & I'm glad modern geo has made these bikes more versatile than ever. I'm still riding my 2016 Transition Scout at 150/125mm, 67 degree HA with 27.5" wheels. So having that extra rear travel + 29'er wheels & modern geo will be a nice addition when I upgrade. The bike I'm currently eyeing is the new Fezzari Delano Peak at 150/135mm. It's great to have so many bikes to bounce off of & compare against.

Cool video. Great introduction to the bike. On a more general note and not specific to FH. all bikes gets good reviews these days and a lot of the “characteristics” thats gets talked about are HIGHLY dependent on setup. The expectations need to rise in all categories and reviewers ought to be harsher when bike companies and product managers makes bad decisions and cuts corners.

Great review! I picked up a 2020 RIP 9 RDO recently, the 4 star build. Absolutely love the bike. I am 5'10" 200lb and went with the large. Ended up going to a 0.6 volume spacer in the DPX2 to get some more bottom out resistance. Wish they would have used 170mm cranks instead of 175 to help reduce pedal strikes when in the low position. The XT brakes have been awesome even with just a 180mm front rotor, except they rattle non stop with the finned pads. I have adjusted them so they rattle much less, but still make some noise on chunky terrain. Also dislike the lax hub engagement on M1900 wheels, but that is a personal preference thing. The bike feels super balanced and gives lots of confidence. It does not plow through stuff as easy as my Rallon did, but overall I prefer the RIP almost everywhere. Bike is far more capable than I am, it's a keeper.

@@hampuskardell8709 Depends on your reach preferences. The large is 465mm with the 35mm stem, 490 on the xl in the 66 degree HA setting. The stand over should be no problem on the XL. The bike feels fairly compact and tossable in the large, perfect for what I like. 460-470 reach seems to be my personal sweet spot. I also cut down my bars to 780mm. Any chance you can test one out?

@superawesomefuntimego 2 жыл бұрын
@@drewz4625 Mine came in the high setting. FYI, I updated the front fork to 160mm and replaced the DPX2 with a DHX2 Coil and the bike is even more capable now. The coil made the rear much better over chunky terrain.

Hi, I'm 6'1.5 and I have a large RIP 9, same bike as this but different colour. I think it fits me just fine. I have long legs and a normal torso / arms. I felt the XL would be too big, too much of a stretch.

Do you think you could get your hands on a Propain Tyee for testing? They might be inclined to lend you one, since they just started to sell their bikes in north America. I am thinking about getting one and there are very few reviews on it and none where you can compare it against other bikes tested by the same rider.

Since there was no climbing I assume it climbs like an anvil. Also no tight switch back so it must be too long also. Also no rock gardens so bottom bracket to low also? Lots of pedal strikes with out super short crank arms on it?

Yeah, my friend snapped his frame in half in January, got it fixed(it snapped again on his first ride). He still hasn’t gotten a replacement; I understand that there are problems with things being behind schedule and in low supply, but from my understanding, Niner hasn’t made any attempt to get him a new frame. I’m not sure if this answers your question, but it might be a good thing to know anyway.

I had a warranty issue with mine, and Niner responded to me almost instantly. Giving me a new frame, expected to take 2-3 months. That’s a pretty standard wait time, especially for a smaller boutique brand.
