Also got to experience this via a rental car and was surprised how much better it was than I was expecting. The ergonomics in this are outstanding with the exception of the overly high accelerator position. I chucked it through my favorite corner and it loved it! Handled it great. Not sure the 19s do the ride any favors but this is a good overall effort from Nissan.

@March 11 2023 you know how sometimes you want to cruise with little to no pedal pressure? Just maintaining speed and distance to the next car? To do that in the Altima I experienced, I really had to pull my toes back very far which gets tiring on the muscle that runs the front of your shin.

It's incredible that Nissan continues to put their shitty CVT's in most of their lineup. The complaints are staggering and people who even get to the point of considering one against a competing vehicle, almost always choose the competing vehicle because of the CVT in the Nissan. Yet they still keep using it. They do not listen to the consumer market and that is why they are mostly considered a fleet company now. I actually loved the Nissan Altima rental I had a couple of years ago and would even consider buying one, but the only thing that drove me crazy about it was that damn CVT.
@TheSergio10212 жыл бұрын
I dont know, their CVTs are kind of integral to getting the insane gas mileage out of these cars, so I'm sure that's the reason, and its a good one.

I drove a base 2020 Altima as a rental a few months ago. There's just no comparing this to LX Accords or Sport Mazda6s--it didn't track well on the highway, the CVT sucked, the equipment was worse than my old 2005 Maxima SL which is surely in a landfill by now (save for Bluetooth, that's about it). Driving an Accord LX or Camry LE feels modern with better transmissions, better road manners, LED lighting, and all of the modern safety tech that 2020 rental didn't have. Surely it's a different comparison at the higher trim, but also worth noting that competition blows this out of the water at the lower end, even if this sells for a few grand less.

I have one of these. The only issue I have is that there is a 2 second delay for acceleration upon stomping the accelerator pedal. Just my car (I have no idea)? Service advisor at dealership thought it was just the model, and not my car specifically. Blamed it on turbo lag and the new VC engine. However, it still does this even if the compression and boost are both shown high (on the screen that shows that info). Really noticeable though from a dead stop. Can get you into trouble if trying to cross traffic.

Andrew K they still moved 250,000 altimas last year making them third in midsize sales obviously people are buying them and like the smoothness of the cvt every carmaker is losing reliability if we’re being honest, car making is a dying industry so everyone is trying to cut cost and run for the electrification finish line, I know that people have issues with their cvts but it’s not like all 250,000 2019 altimas sold are gonna need a new transmission at less than 100k miles cause that’s just not gonna happen everyone has flaws but the car making game isn’t about reliability it’s about consumers wants and needs which is high tech, smooth rides, comfortable, and quiet which the Altima and basically every other car in the segment checks all the boxes so reliability isn’t anybody’s concern anymore it’s all about the money so people will buy what interests them and most of them are younger drivers because nissans are so easy to drive and aren’t super expensive and older/middle aged people who want a comfortable(zero gravity seats) ride and smoothness but I can see how it’s not appealing to 20-30 year olds who want something fast or wanna keep it for 15 years and drive it hard cause then it just won’t last which is just cvts in general you can’t be hard on them

@trashrabbit694 жыл бұрын
@Jonathan A In raw power I suppose, but the chassis is complete ass. It reminded me of my old Cutlass Ciera with how numb and confusingly bouncy it was, much less composed compared to even the Charger. I think the only redeeming factor for a Fusion is how cheap it is and AWD on some models. Otherwise, the Altima or Mazda6 is the best you can get right now. The Korean twins just came out so they'll definitely bring some very competitive standards to the table but its so recent there aren't really any good avenues for deals right now.
@trashrabbit694 жыл бұрын
@Jonathan A I liked it when it first arrived in 2013, I did think it was gonna be a good form for Ford with their global cars. However they just never touched except for minor updates for 7 years and it withered on the vine. It just became unjustifiable with Optima's and Accord's becoming better and better. It was progress for Ford but very little for the market as a whole. But... there is at least the Bronco now lol.
