Glad to hear it! Re: the press, I always wish we can too because you're guaranteed to miss a lot just trying to read the board. Maybe someday someone will run a tournament where all press is revealed at the end. In the meantime, the Media Wars and Can This Alliance Really Work videos do go over some press, but those are the only ones on my channel that do!

@@DiploStrats I watched can this alliance really work. I really learned a lot just from how you spoke to people or people did not speak to you. I got Austria in my game and the Italy player is one lined answers haha. Thank you for putting in the time to these videos so people can learn from you.

The real issue is that you couldn't have crammed the longest game of all time into a mere 24 hours

1:46:55 Obvious answer is that you can convoy it out through both NWG and NAO, but given England's position.... it doesn't make any sense (there was no way for a fleet to end up in NWG in S05). I agree that holding in Lyp is just better!
@peterlegg23942 жыл бұрын
The only guess I have is so that they could leave Liverpool open for an extra build if the convoy fails. But there's no way that was ever going to happen without France/Germany NMRing/vacating SCs.

Hide the list of player names, doesn’t add much - list those in the description….make the map bigger (important)
@DiploStrats2 жыл бұрын
I really wish we could! Unfortunately the Backstabbr map doesn't go any wider than this, so we really need something to fill the space there. If we made the map any bigger it would cut off the top and the bottom.
@thomaswall76853 жыл бұрын
So kind of off topic question. I just started webdiplomacy and I can’t read the map well with their “boats and ships” . Is there a way I can change it to look like this with circles and triangles color coordinated?
@DiploStrats3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not on webDiplomacy. Their map is kind of unreadable - they're supposedly working on updating it, but that's been in limbo for a while. To get this map we recreated the game over on Backstabbr, which has a much more readable map!

Rules question: Can a unit support a move into it's own territory?
@Shannon_Lynch3 жыл бұрын
You cannot use a support to dislodge one of your own armies or fleets
@DiploStrats3 жыл бұрын
Matthew's right, but also - a unit needs to be able to directly move somewhere in order to support a move there. A unit can't move to its own territory (that would just be a hold) so that order wouldn't be valid anyway.

How does the diplomacy phase work online? Also what's the year end rule of 1925? I thought it was 18 supply centers?
@DiploStrats2 жыл бұрын
The Diplomacy Phase is usually 24-48h long - press is text-based, so players check in and send/read messages when they have time to do so. The year end rule is a condition put in to stop games going on forever - 18 supply centers is the victory condition in Diplomacy, but there are certain positions on the board called stalemate lines which can be permanently locked down by a defending power. There are quite a few which lock down enough SCs that victory won't be possible anymore. So games can also end by mutual agreement (draw) or by end year (timeout). In qualifying rounds of tournaments, people usually score points depending on how many SCs they have when the game ends. In finals games (like this one) it's often just 'the person with the most SCs when the game ends wins the tournament'.

Risk, Stratego and C&C don't let you win by lying to your fellow players. Diplomacy is more akin to Mafia / Werewolf than Risk.
