2020 Pentax K-100D camera review

When I started shooting digital DSLR the k100 was the one I started with. Great camera with good buttons and display and price. That's why I started with Pentax. From 08 to 16 I shot with Canon. For financial reasons I needed to sell al my equipment. When I came back I made the sensible choice, back to Pentax. Love my K70 now and will shoot it hopefully for many years. Not a gear freak anymore. Just shooting.

I used a K-200D for a lot of years, actually still have it and use it on occasion. It too runs on AA batteries, although it seems to go through fresh charged batteries very quickly. If that camera wrote a book, it would be a thick one. We had a lot of adventures together for a lot of years and it cemented my love of Pentax cameras. It was tough, it was dependable and made wonderful images. So the K-100D was likely the predecessor of the K-200D. Thanks for the video on the K-100D, Lee.

I had a pentax k30 and now I have a Pentax k 70 and a Pentax k01,which I purchased in Singapore. Pentax in my opinion are great value for money.

I went from a K100D to a K5 , still have the K100D as the quality from that sensor is superb.

I purchased the *ist DL2 for €70 during the year. It had remarkably few actuations. A great camera too not unlike the K-100D. Great video. Keep it up!

My second DSLR....K10D was my first....when Pentax decided to RENAME the “ASTERISK EYE ESS TEE” cameras to “K”, that’s what caught my attention since I already had a K1000. The rest is History. I love those bodies, and all my glass!

You went from a K10D to a K100D? Why the downgrade?

Uni-Byte I bought the K100D at a bargain price from a camera store that was going out of business. I wanted a second body, as a backup.

@@standhd That makes sense. Speaking of older cameras I still have my first digital ... the original *istD. Mostly used for images intended only for the internet (project pictures, parts, whatever I want to post) But it's still a great little (emphasize little here) body that compatible with all my stuff.

Uni-Byte I have a lot of older glass, and they all fit, which is great. Even my screw mount lenses with the adapter. Pentax get bashed quite a bit by others, but I won’t give up my gear.

I hope Pentax designs an OVF that extends far enough away from the camera body so that my nose doesnt keep hitting the back when I bring the camera up to my face. All manufacturers of DSLRs have this design issue and if Pentax solves it first, they will win alot of market share. I own the K50 and the KP. I use my K50 more because the OVF extends slightly more than the KP. This issue would help anyone with glasses or anyone with less than perfect eyesight, a larger nose etc.

Duracell rechargeable's worked ok energizer lithium's work great!

The Energizer lithiums are what I use with my K-x. They usually last me a few months, even when I take plenty of photos. :)

Lee My son has one I bought for him when he was going to England for the Boy Scout World Jamboree . It's a great camera he still uses it and his K 50 . I don't do Facebook so I guess that leaves me out .

hi im getting a problem where my pentax took like 5 or 6secs before the viewfinder cleared and shows photo. BTW can you make a tutorial about the camera?

Those CCD sensors had beautifully rich reds and greens, better than the newer CMOS. Do you know what the max capacity SD card it can take? Some of the older digitals can only take a 2GB or 4GB SD card and can't handle the larger SDHC cards.

I did some more checking and it looks like the original K-100D would only take a 2GB SD card max but they did a firmware update that allowed it to take a larger SDHC card, 16GB or maybe more, so I'm guessing that your camera has the updated firmware. I have the Pentax MX-1 digital pocket camera, a wonderful little advanced point-and-shoot with a tilt screen and bright lens.
