Looks like it'd be quite a fun drone for families to take on holiday, as it can be quickly deployed and then stuffed back in a bag. Plenty of features to play with and it's definitely a fair price for that amount of technology. Great review as always!

That's what I have my Mini 4 Pro for. It folds up to a smaller form factor with better quality all around and longer flight times. I'm sure most people like to get the best possible quality for their holiday footage, because many times you will not manage to came back to where you're going.

Since this is the first generation of this product, it's awesome to see a drone coming out at an affordable price point with a few kinks that need to get sorted, such as camera quality and the slight software quirks you mentioned. The second generation or pro version of this would be something I would definitely buy, as they will hopefully improve on some of these features. Awesome review.

I had the X1 for a good year or so before dji released this. My exp with the X1 was great, loved being able to get quick shots on hols. It also sounded like 1000 mozzies attacking but didn't bother me. Intrigued to see how you compare the Neo with the X1 Pro. Hover drone prices are crazy so feel like Neo will be take top spot due to affordability and SW updates etc
@scottgivens27
@scottgivens27 9 күн бұрын
I did order the Hover Air Pro Max because of Video quality, obstacle avoidance, and from what I'm seeing already, superior tracking in every way. Out of the box, the Neo is vastly cheaper and beats the Hover X1, but if you want all of the features of the Neo for FPV flying, you will need additional cash about another $100+ and as of this video the Goggles 3 which is $500, so now you are closer to $800-$900 and more expensive that the Hoverair Pro Skiing bundle which is insane IMO.
@ashleygamesandgadgets
@ashleygamesandgadgets 9 күн бұрын
@scottgivens27 promax definitely beats it in all areas but the price bracket is nuts in my opinion. I have the mini 3 pro for the professional shots and just wanted something to launch for quick shots. Hover have done a great job of raising the bar and creating a niche market entirely but I'll probably wait to see how the HW and SW perform in real world scenarios. I get my Neo today so will see how hat performs too. Depending on how that does will lead me to get X1 Pro or not.

This video just helped me make my decision! I loved that even though you are sponsored, you did not sugar coat this review unlike other influencers. I will be skipping this drone. I wanted it to be a smaller FPV but after buying the FMC, controller, and goggles, it will set me back approximately $990. An Avata 2 FMC is right now priced at $1,199. The camera and the noise is also deal breaker. The lack of ability to go vertical (specially since it’s marketed for social media) also sucks. I’d just stick with my Mini 3 Pro and pair it with an Avata 2. Thank you for your review!

I really want some of those tracking modes, controller options and audio recording on the Avata 2!
@DanielCrist
@DanielCrist 10 күн бұрын
Not sure if you missed this part at the end of the video, but audio recording is done with your phone, it just automatically synchs up with the video from the drone so you don't have to do the old clapping move to synch up the timing of your audio recording and video, and it has an automatic noise filter that eliminates most of the prop noise. The Hover Air series however, do support onboard audio recording and have their own extremely impressive noise cancellation software (even more impressive because the prop noise is being produced just centimeters from the microphone in this case). While I thought the original Hover Air was heavily overpriced for what it was, (relying on the unique novelty of not requiring a controller), and I believe if it used a standard controller at start-up (even if it still had automated flight modes as well) people would be willing to pay no more than half of the original $450 MSRP for the features and specs it had. The new "Pro" and "ProMax" ones that are available for preorder right now have pricetags that seem much more justified by the value they offer, and their specs outclass the DJI Neo in just about every way except for max range. The Hover Air Pro/ProMax have a 1"/1.3" sensor (50% larger than the Neo) supported by an EIS algorithm and a 2-axis gimbal (compared to the Neo's 1 axis) for really steady footage, and by default shoot in 4k normally, 2.7k in vertical mode, and 120FPS video at 1080p. The ProMax can actually shoot up to 8k so you can crop-in while editing, and 4k in 120FPS, as well as has the ability to shoot in 10-bit and HDR. Sadly I don't think either the Pro or ProMax can shoot RAW photos though (a fail for both the Neos and Air Pros), but my memory isn't 100% on that fact. They are way faster than the Neo, reaching up to like 60km/h like a freaking velociraptor or something. So thankfully they also have obstacle avoidance sensors around the drone, although the ProMax allegedly uses some kind of more advanced type of system than the Pro. I don't remember for sure but I'm 99% confident I remember that they have a greater wind resistance than the Neo, and 92.3% sure that they had a level 5 wind resistance rating. The Neo has a level 4 rating, and the Pro/ProMax might possibly also be a level 4 but just with a slightly higher wind speed resistance (that doesn't yet fall into level 5) than the Neo - however as I said, I'm 90.3% certain they had a level 5 rating. They both have something like double the built-in onboard storage of the Neo, but also SD card support as well. Maybe most impressive, they had some insane suitable operating temperature ranges compared to any other kind of hobby drone or camera I've ever seen. That's harder to remember because I had to convert it from Celsius to Fahrenheit, but I want to say with their advanced thermal battery it was like -10°F to 115°F, and their normal battery shockingly had the same maximum temperature limit, and the coldest operating temperature was only slightly less cold for the standard battery - I want to say maybe "positive" 10°F instead of "negative" . So I guess pushing how cold you can operate batteries at is harder to accomplish than pushing how hot you can run them and the electronics at, which is surprising given how common overheating issues are with highly compact camera systems such as in drones and action cameras. The Pro and ProMax also have a full suite of accessories available to augment or improve your flying experience. Besides the basic handlebar mounts and stuff, they have a tracking beacon which allows the drone to track you without you fumbling with a remote, and regardless of vision recognition with a range of 1km. Another accessory option is a little micro monitor that attaxhes to the beacon, giving you a small 2 inch screen to see a live feed from the drone without your phone.They also sell a basic controller that connects with your phone, or a motion controller that works with the micro monitor and operates like the DJI motion controller. And they've got one or two other things. When I started writing this comment I did not intend to do a full spec breakdown and comparison, I just meant to compare the things you mentioned, mainly the audio recording, but these new drones from ZeroZero robotics have me so excited for their release that I could've help but go all in. The original Hover Air was a useless toy with a ridiculously inflated price tag, but now after listening to conduct feedback and knowing that DJI was going to eventually launch their own automated pocket drone, ZeroZero really amped it up for their second generation system.

@@bigglyguy8429 yes, the onboard audio recording isn't new - but it somehow sounds much better than the Neo even though the Neo records from your phone and the Hover Air Pro records from millimeters away from the props. However, just about all the other features are a significant upgrade or brand new.

Great review, well balanced and you pointed out the negatives really well. Definitely not for me as my Mini 4 Pro aint going nowhere. I'm sure it will be popular but not having a vertical nimble mode for social media is very strange.

Thank you. I fully expect to see DJI add a vertical mode with a firmware update, as a lot of people will want it. However that will just be a crop on the 4k footage.

Even as a sponsored video I found that very balanced. I have an Air2s and Fishing Channel. I know my audience likes drone footage. I just find it to be a pain to pull it out and get footage while fishing. So I was thinking this might be a good option. However, I might wait for the next version by the sounds of it if it will have obstacle avoidance and possibly folding. Plus they should have better camera and for me additional storage...

Where I work, we often have a need for aerial stills of parking lots from high overhead. We normally pull these off of Google earth, but it would be nice to get them while our stuff is actually set up. Is the still photo option capable of getting decent shots from about 30 meters up in bright to overcast conditions?

I'm looking into this drone, but will very rarely, if ever, use the "selfie" modes, since I intend to get the N3 remote. I just want to get basic aerial video and stills. The weight is the deciding factor for me, as it means no FAA remote id stuff. I don't need cinematic footage, but just decent enough for laptop or smart phone viewing. Price point is decent, if not superb. Even with the fly more combo and added expense of the N3. It's still sub $400 US. And it's dji quality. I don't like chinese products (human rights, etc,not due to quality) in general, but there is no disputing that dji makes the best drones.

As a Chinese, you are welcome to come to China to see how the human rights enjoyed by Chinese people differ from those enjoyed by your local people. I have been to more than ten countries and regions, and I think China is the place with the most human rights in terms of safety or the right to life. Of course, she also has many shortcomings, but your reasons make me feel that you don't know much about China. Come and see for yourself, there are many visa free countries.

I assume it comes with the usual checks for fly spots, which is a problem in my home country where it's almost impossible to fly anywhere due to many no-fly zones. Same would probably be true on recent holiday locations we went to (Canadian Rockies eg). Can someone confirm it's having the same restrictions as any other drone (apart from not required to have a need to register it to fly it or report it's ID and location to authorities given it's weight is < 250g)? As always, great content coming from you and despite DJI surely providing you with some exclusivity (early versions of their products) I always find your reviews very objective as you name the good as well as the bad and even compare fairly, like in this case to the Hover competitor product!

Great review mate! Just got one, its awesome!! And my last was the equally awesome but a tad larger Phantom 4 Pro Standard. Took my cute baby itty bitty cuddly wuddly NEO down to the beach yesterday & tried both follow me & manual flight. It was very windy yet whilst drone wobbled in flight, the final video was very stable. Only problem is on my Galaxy Fold5, the manual flight controls do not appear when the phone is open. Very odd. Have to run the DJI app with screen closed. I'll drop a line to DJI. For the price, the NEO is a technological marvel & mine is going to be on me everywhere I go! DJI are going to sell loads at Christmas.

Thanks a lot for this summary! I dreamed about the drone which doesn't need a remote controller and can follow me while running in the mountains or skiing (of course when no wind). But I still really hope that DJI will release NEO 2 asap and with SD card slot and obstacle avoidance + maybe better camera with option to turn it the same way as Mini 3 and 4 can...

My biggest hold back for now is that for me it looks the images from it looks a bit noise and low quality, and looks a bit worst than a cellphone. Expected for this price point, but i am still in the fence. Everything else looks perfect ! There's also another factor for reviews. They usually mixes high quality 4K vlogging cameras with this drone footage, so the quality contrast may look bigger. Maybe a 4k downscaled to 1080 would help with the quality. I want to test it.

Totally agree on the foldable design of the X1. I owned the X1 and used it mainly for cycling. I ordered the Pro version because of 4K and higher follow speed. I do like the fact that the Neo can be used as a FPV though. Almost canceled the order due to that. What are your thought about new Hover models? Thanks for your review. Great work.
