I bought my Roscoe 8 last month after a two year hiatus from mtn biking (broke my third frame and put the hobby on hold because of other life expenses). I started Mtn biking in the early 90's on a fully rigid Mtn bike, bought a hardtail next, and then went full suspension. I am absolutely loving the bike. I set it up tubeless from the beginning and changed out the grips to fatter 32mm. The original grips were a bit thin for my big hands and made all the difference. What I like about your videos is that you are the definition of what most of us normal Mtn bikers are, just casual riders out to have some fun. Not everyone is a world class pro like most videos seem to show. My mantra when riding is a Dirty Harry saying "A man's got to know his Limitations "

Your journey to this point has not only been entertaining but inspirational. Please continue to post make content.

Apex on a hardtail is definitely a challenge. Even a bike like the Remedy can't just plow through the gut (the SUPER steep gnarly section), you need careful line choice on any bike, the full sus just makes it easier to get over the big rocks. And if you thought going down the gut was crazy, there are people who climb it.

Drove from Mobile to Birmingham to go check out a Roscoe 8 in the morning. Surprised they had some up here. Nothing available back home. Really excited. Haven’t owned a bike for about 8yrs now. My boys are old enough to ride, so it’s time for dad to get back at it and show them what’s up. Lol. My 6yo wants to do some bike-packing.

By seeing the vibration in your bars, you should lower your tire psi and your fork psi, and slow the rebound a tad in your fork.

Looking good on them trails, wish there was some long flowy ones out by me. Should try some riser bars if you feel to much weight on the front, but watch out. I got the old Marlin frame (frames the only thing haven't replaced as it hasn't broke yet) and putting a 20mm riser on it made a big difference for me.

Awesome vid man. Good honest talk. Problem im going to have is actually finding one. No one around here has any bikes right now. Cant find them online either. So i guess im stuck waiting until things settle down. I had already narrowed it down to the Roscoe 8, but i'm also looking at Diamondback. I just think i like the sizing of the Trek bikes more.

Man! That trail looks rough. Every time you post one of these videos I feel like I’m on the edge of my seat wanting to run to the bike store to get my Roscoe. My dual sport was not made for the trails, but I am just drawn to them any way. I’m looking forward to riding trails like your doing to see the difference when I get my new bike.

Mate ! What a track you did well . I ride the tracks left by the kangaroos, their tracks are always tight and windey. No hills along the Murray River where I live .

Looks like it handled it pretty well. I’m supposed to be picking up a 2021 marlin 5 tomorrow because that’s all I can find, but hopefully after a few months all the 2021 models will be available so I can upgrade to something more trail ready. Looks like you are going to be having a good time with the Roscoe 8

Please be advised that the Roscoe 8 has 27.5 - 2.8 wheels. Unless you ride a high tyre pressure it is nice to ride it on the street
@subman7194 жыл бұрын
The MAXXIS RECON tires that are on the Roscoe 8 are a very soft compound and will probably wear out quick on pavement. Since I just had knee surgery and need to rehabilitate it, I am putting on a set of Schwalbe Super Moto X tires for street/path riding and then swap back to the Recon’s once I’m ready to hit the trails again.

I've put in a few miles on the tarmac it just runs out of gears really but it feels great on urban to be fair. Still not near as much fun as on the trails though.

Oh man, that was a rough trail. Even a FS would have trouble in some spots. You’ll really benefit from some riding shoes (5.10 or Ride concept). Even without new pedals, they will help keep your feet glued and give your arches more support. Pair new shoes with good pedals and you’ll be blasting though the trails. Be sure to wear the shoes around the house for a day to break the foam in before you go riding.
@MattyActive4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the advice! I’m still new to the mtb world so information like this is definitely appreciated.

Matty Johnson for sure. Contact points are critical since you only touch the bike in three places. Getting those dialed in go a long way to how you communicate with the bike.

You should cable tie your cables to stop them flapping about at the front and its a lot tidier. Do you think the roscoe 8 is worth the extra £300?
@gabrielbrolly4574 жыл бұрын
This is my first MTB in 20 years but I think it's a cracking entry bike to get serious on before going to a higher end trail bike. I think the extra expense over the 7 and last year's model is worth it.
@subman7194 жыл бұрын
Scottishking ... I have the 2020 Roscoe 8 and it is a beast of a bike! The only upgrade would be swapping the all composite pedals it comes with to better ones with replaceable pins like the Race Face Chester for a huge improvement in foot to pedal grip! You won’t go wrong with a Roscoe 8!!! 👍

Just my two cents, but it looks like to me that you would benefit from a slightly shorter stem and a taller riser/more rise in your bar. Maybe even slightly wider would help your control when going down the chunk, w/o compromising your climbing position.

6:07 This is when your pushing your fork, and front end to its capacity. Same goes for the headset. A Recon or Reba can handle this trail. And I will agree, bringing a Marlin on that exact spot will kill that front end fork in a matter of seconds. Never intended for that purpose beyond light trails and street daily commuter. The Marlins are budget bikes to get you riding. Not bombing.

With better tires and better front suspension, it's impossible you do not feel an improvement. But for that kind of ride you are gonna need a full suspension, and that's big $$$$$$ I prefer a more smooth terrain with some jumps for a hard tale fun. Too many rocks it's not gonna be comfortable.

On Apex, it's six in one half a dozen in the other. The fuel EX's 29 inch wheels will roll through chunk well, but the Remedy's extra suspension travel will take those big hits better.
