When they first started to introduce these little electric runabouts here in Canada, around 13 years ago, my daughters boyfriend, now husband, worked for the company that imported them. So he gave one to my daughter. It got a lot of attention, i used to run to the shops on it to pick up bread and milk and such. Are they the future, i believe they are. Would i trade in my gas for electric, no, not yet, i like the sound of an engine. Keep the videos coming, love to see my old haunts.

That's what I call a real world review. What a game dad! Thinking about one of these for my narrowboat. Might need a bit of angle grinding to remove some of the deck rails to get it aboard. In my early 20's my only transport was a CB100. It would just about make 60 mph, but only if you did the points within a few days. Never ridden a scooter though. I'll have to do a test ride to see how it feels.

Unfortunately I think electric is inevitable Kate, but they need to improve the batteries and range, plus price!
@cosmodoc3 жыл бұрын
Not unfortunate at all!! I have switched to electric after riding petrol bikes up to 1300cc for 30 years, and I love them, will never go back!
@jhellnowh3 жыл бұрын
@@cosmodoc I said unfortunately due to the fact that we have no alternative to electric at the moment. I’m a touring motorcyclist, who covers 300-400 miles in a day when touring and I don’t see any real improvement in range. The alternative I mention is hydrogen, but I hear nothing about this in the motorcycle press. I live in a large town and there are no charging points at all. The other unfortunate issue is the price and it’s a real issue for most people.
@cosmodoc3 жыл бұрын
@@jhellnowh forget about hydrogen, this will never become a viable reality for cars, let alone bikes for lots of reasons. It will only be used for HGV’s etc. Do you ride 300-400 miles without any break? I certainly did not, when I rode from Manchester to Marrakesh! And some of the Zero bikes can do up to 100-120 miles on one charge and with a rapid charger charge quite quickly. Ranges, charge speed and purchase costs will be much better in a few years time, as will be the charge network. For my needs, they are already sufficient. And at about 70p for 100 miles if I charge at home it is a no -brainer!

Not sure “at present “ about electric bikes,but electric scooters are ideal as the range really suits there needs. Only thing I wonder is what’s the insurance compared to a petrol equivalent? Great to see UsernameDad again,and great vlog.👍🏻
@warwickstingray3 жыл бұрын
Had a look at a few quotes and with no no claims as I’m planning to return to 2 wheels the prices were a little higher than petrol 125cc but not by much. Fully comp came out in the low 200s and third party F&F around 170 quid. I am 40 and live in Somerset. Full no-claims and it seems to be just as silly cheap as any commuter bike. Far less insurers to choose from is the only downside though and outside a chosen few the quotes are stupid. Think cossie in the 80s 🤦♂️

Another great vid, I'm over 60 been riding on the road for 47 years love the ICE but hoping to someday own an electric bike with the performance of your average 1000cc bikes and I think they will be here sooner than many think. Another informative video UNK, although I rarely travel more than 100 miles in one hit, it’s nice to know you can and with limited range it puts me off considering an electric bike although I imagine they are fun with low down pull on tap. For me we need to have an infrastructure where you pop into a fuel station give them your flat battery, buy a recharged replacement to plug in and off you go: like when you change your calor gas bottle. The industry needs to adopt same size batteries (more of them for bigger capacity bikes). So many different types of AA batteries but all fit the appliance. Without this, how will people who live in flats or can’t park one a driveway be able to charge their vehicles? Keep up the good work and ride safe 👍🏻

I've ridden the Livewire. It was a lot of fun, I think they are the future, but more so than with cars, batteries need to be lighter with better range. Motorcycles are quite defined by their noise, that is something I think I would miss, it is nice to hear and feel the rumble of an engine under you. But, just because I like the sounds and smells of an ICE doesn't mean they should be around forever, the future of the planet trump's my likes. I can easily get used to riding/driving electric. Only thought is safety, it's sketchy enough on a motorcycle with cagers not paying attention and I've got a Hella loud Harley. I think, like you said, it's great to have the choice. Motorcycles in general are far more eco friendly than any cars, largely due to less materials in manufacturing, so the offset of carbon is less. I think a great future would be all electric cars, no fumes in your faces when you ride up behind them. And a mix of electric and ICE motorcycles. Each have their positives and negatives, so a world with both is great. But would be nice to get some consistency with chargers. Imagine pulling up to a petrol station with 6 different nossle types... Urrgh.

Dad makes a good point about insurance, I have just ordered an electric CPX, have only managed to get three quotes with the majority of insurers saying that they will not cover electric bikes. Three quotes (fully comp) Bennetts £1500!!!!!! Lexham £520 with £400 excess MCE £372 but pointless quote as excess was £1925. Hopefully more insurers begin to offer cover.

I’m the same. The insurance costs are certainly turning me off an electric moped. It’s just not worth that extra cost for commuting against a combustion engine.
@Fernando900543 жыл бұрын
It is nice in deed! I’m sure it will take a while to take over the market. It’s something of a near future . No one realistically see this, as an alternative to a petrol engine machine but it maybe gets its place in the future. Not for a long time. I think the electric has to evolve a lot to be serious competition towards the traditional vehicles. Nothing compares to the sound of a petrol engine, mainly in bikes world. But it is practical and cute.

Although the little ones are not my thing, I very very much want to embrace the electric motorcycles, I just can't see them being viable for my real world use just yet, am happy to be proven wrong on that though. I'd love a green laner, but getting stuck out on the lanes could be an issue, I'd love an electric tourer, but I am not convinced I could travel as far per day. They currently make the world larger, when up until now, all vehicles have been making the world smaller. Once all the motorcycle haunts have charging ports in each parking bay, it will make it all far more useable for folk to have fun rides. Commuting is already doable, but play rides are a bit of time away I think. Hahaha, ya Dad sayin it is a Stormtrooper bike, it kinda is, certainly feels a bit sci-fi :D

Love the way your dad took to it so quickly considering his age and the pigeon hole that people selling this new tech perceive his and my age group to be technophobe and so against Chang. I myself think this and other vehicles full electric, hybrid, diesel and petrol others too including bio fuel gas, they all have a roll to play in future transport needs, instead of trying to smash us into submitting to wholesale changes in the way we fuel our transport needs why not just let it happen naturally over time even if it takes a few decades. Full electric vehicles for me would work for short journeys over a working week and the odd run out at the weekend. Hybrid tech has come on leaps and bounds lately and could be a great buffer between fossil fuel burning vehicles and full electric has we move forward in time to a day when full electric vehicles can do much greater distance on a single charge, bearing in mind the need for a possible hybrid diesel engine for truck transport, rail freight transport, ships would probs still need full diesel engines for the power needed to shift goods and people around the world. Sad fact, all governments don't do common sense so are pushing for mass change in the next ten years. :-( great video. Thanks, vinny.

The green argument for electric vehicles is....let’s not go there but I can see the attraction of electric on a scooter where it won’t pollute in a city (no CO2, but breathable dust will still come off the tyres and brakes, again let’s not go there). What is undisputed is that Internal combustion engines are thermodynamically useless and produce such limited torque that they need a gearbox, unlike electric motors. Nevertheless character, engine noise and the enjoyment of changing gear is a bit part of why I ride, I’m glad I’m old enough not to have to contemplate being forced to ride electric in 20 or 30 years time. Riding in winter, or poor weather conditions, 'can', improve your riding as you get used to the bike not having as much traction etc as normal. As long as you clean your bike regularly, and use something like ACF50, to prevent corrosion, it should be ok. I ride all year, by choice, and use ACF50 and demon shine to protect the bike. As far as electric bikes go, yes its the future, but the battery technology isn't there yet. My biggest issue is: Where does the electricary come from to charge your vehicle? Fossil fuel power stations?! Nuclear power stations?! Not very environmentally friendly. Better battery technology and a greener way of charging, and its a winner, IMO. But I still prefer petrol bikes, i'm old school......... Grumps.
