Toyota direction is different and not target on power, fast cornering etc. TNGA just adequate on current actual road conditions with advance ADAS system will do. Toyota is capable to build fast car, rally car, F1 car, electric car, hybrid car, fuel cell car and most importantly is reliable car with resell value.

To be honest the screen angle is genius, i've sat in the BMW, and the sunlight reflection and glare is quite obvious and annoying, tilting it that way was actually an ergonomic move.

First time I got mindblown was sitting in my friend’s 2014 Jetta 1.4TSI, the way it powers through from 100-200kph unmatched for anything in its class, and how the car stayed composed with bad road undulations. Only sad thing is some of their SC are really incompetent.

Asking a realistic question here for an honest answer..... how reliable is the Passat now? SERIOUSLY...... ?? Does the buyer need a second standy car ? I'm asking from the perspective of someone who needs to drive on a daily basis and cannot afford to leave the car regularly in the workshop and definitely not for more than 2 to 3 days max each time...!! I had test driven the Jetta & Passat back in early 2016 when there was a fire sale. Was extremely tempted as it had a huge discount but I went for the safer and reliable option of another brand.

I own B8 HL less than 2 years and touch wood no big issue with the car so far. Except small issues like door panel plastic peel off and door rattling noise. As long as the DSG is using wet type it is less hassle. I don't think VW is as reliable as Toyota but I don't think Honda is reliable than VW. My colleagues Civic 1.5T less than 3 years car changed 3 times of steering rack and 1 time of brake servo. His car now still facing steering rack noise but Hxnda said it is "safe" to drive.

@@aeroline11 Steering Rack issue, Civic got from Accord. lulz. Accord 7th, 8th, 9th gen all got power steering issue. Even after claim warranty, it will come back somehow. Symptom is funny sound when turn in steering wheel. Yes, it is safe to use, but come on, other manufacturer no got this issue. Now civic also got this issue. Lol.

Im a vw passat owner too, 2019 model...wat i love the most with the car is the power, handling and the throttle response and the transmission too really awesome...bt for me if u compare with japanese cars vw is a bit manja...if u use it with extra car it will last longer bt if u hentam kaw2 u will be in a big trouble 😂...plus the resale value and the sparepart price is the worst part la...otherwise this car is really fuel saving car...up and down penang from JB just RM230 ron97 on this RMCO period fuel price...

I cannot understand Passat pricing. Last year when the SST reduction first started, the new Passat was priced at 159k/161k after discount. Now it is 181k after SST reduction. Something weird with VW calculator?

I just bought a passat eleganced 3 months ago yet I have sent the car back to service centre twice. At 60km/h I could hear obvious sound (of air movement) from my right side. I suspected leakage at the window, door and anywhere welse. I sent the car to different service centres and both said that is not leakage. Instead that is just the noise the car body hit the outside air while driving. Id this is true this is is most badly and poorly designed. Also a lot of noises in the cabin while driving on very slightly uneven road, and when rolling over a hump at very slow speed, like something not tightened enough, or friction between this and that. Service centre people said those are the noise from the hard plastic used to make the components inside the car. I don't believe I need to bear with these noises everyday.

Based on what you said, I believe the Pekan workers were sleeping on their job. Poor QC assembly and you were unfortunate to get hold of that unit. I hope experienced people like Bobby can help offer you tips or any ideas to overcome this issue.

Unfortunately no advance ADAS system, turbo is useless in our highway nowadays, maybe go genting run is ok, but if u drive from KL to Melaka or JB it will feel fatigue in the slow traffic. Once u use and experience the ADAS system, no turning back. Car without it no go.

AEB is important but we have to know how it actually work. And again AEB is an assist it has restriction such as camera based is not working well in bad weather, may not able to detect children or bike. Radar sensor is better by surveying online. My family member owned a X70 with radar based AEB, in certain situation the AEB not working even though in slow speed. But in high speed sometimes I change lane the AEB brake if it sensed I close to front object. This is quite dilemma as we change to right lane normally is accelerating but just because getting close to front vehicle in same lane the car brake itself. AEB is just an assist tool, we should not over rely on it. Good to have it but have to know how it work real world.

Passat B8 2.0 HL had 220ps and Elegance has 190ps ... that's a decent drop of power... 2.0TSI HL costed around RM197k n 1.8k costed 175k.. and Elegance is costing around 189k... Not sure if having one Elegance variant is a good idea.. hope the Upcoming RLine variant comes with more HP..

Why do you need more hp when 190ps 320nm is strong enough for daily and highway revving. People seen Accord got 201ps 260nm thought it is powerful but 0-100km/h is 9.0sec. This Passat although 190ps but it has 320nm where the sprint time is about 7.5sec. Price below 200k none of the D segment car is as powerful as Passat Elegance at this moment.

The previous B8 1.8tsi 180ps 250nm sprint time is 7.9sec. This Elegance is 10ps and 70nm higher, it is definitely quicker. I owned a B8 HL with 220ps but I rarely rev the engine till red line. Sometimes I thought to remap to bring down the PS and NM because it is powerful but also "jerking" less comfort for passenger. I did drove my colleague Passat 1.8tsi and it feel much linear to drive and sit compare to my so called "GTI" based Passat. Passat HL 220ps is suit for those car enthusiast who like the feeling of "race". Some enthusiast tune the car till 400ps, B8 group know who is him. Lolz

Passat Comfortline 1.8 is much more responsive, lighter and fun to drive compared to passat elegance 2.0. Need to look at driving dynamics, not just rated power. We cannot compare rated power of Japanese cars because they measure power at the engine whereas German cars give more accurate measurement of power at the wheel axles. So for same rated power, German cars actually more powerful. This is obvious from the 0 to 100km/h timing. Cheers.

VW should bring down the cost of regular service. VW is just the Toyota of Europe. But their service cost is nearer to premium brand. It’s even Lexus is not that expensive and predictable.

The regular service is not pain but the major service is even more expensive than premium brand, cost nearly 4k for 60k km service interval. VW should bring down the service cost so most people can accept it. If only 30% higher than Toyota people can accept but the major service is almost 3 times higher than Camry.

@@aeroline11 Need to consider service interval for passat is one year or 15k km compared to twice a year for Japanese cars. Going to outside workshop also reduce service cost due to lower labour cost and can use recon and oem parts. Cheers.

@@highiq145 the road noise from the wheel is very noticable in the passat though and the sound system in the accord is way way better than the passat...in this D segment we need a day to day comfortable driving car which the accord is known for so it's really a hard decision

@@hareenraj8519 Ya..every car got its own pros and cons. I pick passat due to dsg and driving dynamics. U cant go wrong with either cars btw. Passat weakness is Accord plus point and vice versa. Got people argue all day long on internet, but in the end, no clear winner as each car got their own strong points.
