Owner/operators or as we used to call them independent truckers always want something that sets them apart from the commercial fleets. I think Volvo lost that crowd when they decided to do away with the 780. Volvo definitely has the volume in their tractors but also lose independents with the Detroit Diesel. Detroit has never had a stand up image for o/o's with low HP and low torque engine applications. Last alternative today is the Cummins X-15 565/605 unfortunately. I know there are O/O saying, "screw 1-2 mpg savings, I want to drive something I'm proud of". Volvo, Freightliner, Mack, Western Star aren't there.
