Let's get Brian to talk about Volvo's for a change!
In this video, Brian discusses the 2021 Volvo VNL 760's features, specs, how well the truck has been performing on the road, and fuel mileage. Companies are spec'ing trucks nowadays for fuel mileage. Do you think this Volvo is designed to give a driver in our fleet the best fuel mileage compared to our Freightliners?

I'm managing to get 9mpg from my DAF XF 460bhp with a Paccar engine. Very impressed. Big power is overrated because the time you save rushing around like a mad man, you will then spend even more time queuing for diesel. I keep telling new owner drivers that it's not about how much you can charge the client but instead it's about how much you get to keep. No point earning more if you're gonna burn it racing around.

I believe you are absolutely correct about your mpg being most important and fuel prices are only ever going to go one way which is up.for us the other side of the pond to you guys here in the uk we have had to pay 3 to 4 times as much for our fuel for many years currently approximately 9 US dollars per gallon so we’ve had to be careful with our fuel usage for quite some time trucks by law have to be speed limited to 56mph for any truck newer than by memory 1988 and are next to none of that age still operating. But a lot of operators are choosing to limit trucks down to 50 mph for further fuel benefits. Also I have noticed in European trucks our length laws are very strict but it also helps with fuel consumption massively to close the gap between the cab and the box trailer as much as possible and match the fairing to the correct height and width of the trailers .also solid cat walks behind the cab stoping that disturbed air flow pulling air down onto the front of the trailer. Some operators also chose to run side skirts on there trailers which also helps. Mercedes have also gone for camera mirrors all for fuel saving reducing front end drag and less stuck out to be damaged. The jury is still out on those some people like them some don’t .over time we found the most important thing’s for us to achieve good fuel mileage has been keeping the trailer nice and close to the truck good truck maintenance and axel alignment ‘a tri axel trailer with 10 tonnes inside and bad alignment will tow harder than one that has been laserlighned with 20 tonnes inside’ also adding extra cost in tyre wear. Company’s have also put in bonus incentives to the drivers as what ever you spend on a truck can all be undone by the driver. It’s not so easy these days to over Rev engines due to 95% of all new truck sales having automated transmissions but still bad driving styles have an effect such as accelerating towards red traffic lights traffic hold ups and breaking at the the last minute or accelerating over the crest of a hill only to be braking again to hold the truck back as it goes down the other side all this also has big effects on fuel consumption and what’s left over in the bank at the end of the week.

The video at 5.36 isn't a Volvo truck. It is an international truck I think. I have had 6 or seven Volvo trucks ranging from 2014 to 2020 models years and never had a problem with the mirrors.

Sensors go out to often. Every 2 months a different senor went out. Can't believe how terrible the headlights are, they either blind people or adjustments are so low you can't see at night. Definitely a great ride and because of you I understand why it pulls slow uphill loaded. Can't beat the comfort and smooth ride. On the 2020 I like the 2018 headlights 100 times better. Pull's uphill loaded light is great. I have never stayed out of the shop longer than 2 months, don't see how they stay in buissnes.

I’m driving one of this with I-shift and it runs great, uphills downhills, it’s light I mean the maneuvers and turns like a 4-wheeler and view. I like everything in it except Electric warning -- I have been driving it with “Check engine” warning. Mechanics told me that it’s because I turned the Beeping signal about a car ahead of me and lane departure/crossing signals off.

The D13 turbo compound can be paired with rear ratios 2.05, 2.16, 2.26.. and it will pull amazing on to he hills because it can utilize it's top 3 gears at highway speed, your taking advantage of gearing in the transmission rather than horse power and torque in the engine.
@britup1
@britup1 2 жыл бұрын
Even if you have more horsepower and torque, you can still drive for fuel economy. I would think that the truck with more torque would not work as hard going up hills and would be able to handle heavier loads too.

Direct drive - the driveshaft spins at the same rpm as the engine. Overdrive- the driveshaft spins faster than the engine. (Lower engine rpm when at the same road speed (mph, etc) as a direct drive.

I love to here this smart information from a seasoned, veteran professional. So many UTubers are obsessed with pre def square nose trucks. Highest HP, torque number's possible. So inefficient. They have a 1980s mindset in a 21st century world. That's all they know how to work on. It's bad business all the way around. Tim Gentry is a good example.

Hey Brian! Just looking for some answers. Just got a 2022 Volvo that we are leasing from Penske. It has one….. single arm rest in the thing. One right side arm rest on the drivers seat. I’ve driven internationals and freightliners. This Volvo is the most uncomfortable truck I have ever driven. Why would this truck come with no left side arm rest? Any clue?

I have an international with 264 gears and 430 horses all I have to say it's downright dangerous climbing grades at 35 and 40 mile an hour...... And I don't know about feeling economy at least in my case the trucks at about 1700 RPM killing itself to get up the hill cuz there's no torque multiplication due to the high rear ratio.....

65mph idk 🤷‍♂️ is kind of slow . 5 miles difference between 65-70mph Make a lot difference on driver pocket . Let’s do math : 5 miles/hour x 10 hours driving = 50 miles a day so 50 miles day x 30 days = 1500 miles a month now 1500 x $0.70 = $1050 monthly and I work less hours . So you are telling me cuz company want to save money I have to loose around $1000 dollars a Month dude that’s my house’s mortgage …. Anyway good videos that a awesome truck 👍

Due to the fact you live in these trucks and hardly live what most consider a normal life, I believe I would prefer a sharp ass long nose if I was a single truck O/O. You spend so much time with the truck, at least you can be proud of what you drive. Either way your going to just make a living with just one truck. Of coarse if your the owner of a large company and want to stick as much profit in your pocket then you go with these ugly ass generic trucks. He is home every night and driving a luxury car that gets shitty gas mileage. Lol
