Not just a beginner bike. I own a 2019 R3 and I've been riding for 28 years, it's a fantastic bike for the twisty Mt roads and a great bike to hone your skills on. A good rider can keep up with the big bikes on the right roads. I have had over 30 motorcycles including Ducatis currently in my garage I have a R3 and a wr250x love the small displacement bikes so much fun and it's fun leaving the big bikes behind when your on a small bike. And yes the R3 can bang wheelies have to stand it up in first but once at the balance point can keep the bike up even at 60mph

And as far as out growing it goes yeah it's not the fastest thing out there but that's not the end all be all most important thing about a motorcycle the most important thing is that it is fun and puts a smile on your face and it definitely does that. If you want a 2020 r3 just go buy a 2019. I own one and it’s exactly the same as the new one. ( I mean exactly the same ) There is nothing new that has been added to any of it. Not even the fairings! It is the same bike head to toe but you can get a 2019 for cheaper. The R3’s are one of the most fun bikes to ride, just don’t waste your money if you don’t have to. Engine wise, Yamaha hasn’t changed it since the 2015 model, so just find out what you like appearance wise! :)

I have owned motorcycles for years, Harleys, Yamahas, Suzukis, Hondas... But that R3 is the most fun I've had on a motorcycle since the Yamaha RD350! That YZF-R3 is not just a beginner bike, it's one that I've owned since 2016, and I have no desires to get rid of it. What it may lack in brakes it makes up for in engine breaking. What it lacks in acceleration it makes up in MPG. I have over 30,000 miles on mine, most of them commuting and some racing, and I just give it gas and oil, and the R3 gives me smiles abundant.

I love my 2016 R3. I started riding in 1978 and it is probably the most fun bike I have owned. That being said, due to the light weight, it is probably the scariest bike I have ever ridden on our highways here with the high winds we get. Double bubble and clipons help with headwinds but crosswinds are sketchy sometimes. All of my harley buddies get surprised when they find out their big 1800cc baggers got smoked by 321cc's in the 0-85 runs lol

R3 is a great first rider to not only build confidence but really hone in some skills. For more experienced riders, honestly R3 is great round towner. Nimble, good pep in the power band and little weight and heat for the stop and go traffic. Just needs a 1 size up rear tire for better contact, stability at higher speeds (not sure if the new suspensions fixed that issue verse prev gen) and slightly more power and gearing for the 80 mph cruising mark which is the most realistic on us roads.

I personally think if you're in the market for an ABS model bike: if you're looking to ride on track, either find a disable-able system, one with cornering abs, or just don't bother. For street -only riders, its pretty essential; but the first time you're coming off a long straightaway and you grab a handful of brake, ABS can and will scare the shit out of you.

My favorite small cc bike all around. Wanted to love the 400 ninja, needed to love the ninja, bought the Yamaha. Complete Akro exhaust, lookin for intake options. Not sure a power commander is necessary but different brake pads are needed. They work but don’t have the bite I’m looking for. I agree on engine braking. Back in 1985 you needed to know how to use that. Brake just weren’t all that good. This is just an all around great bike and a great addition to my garage. Now if winter would just go away here in the Northeast it’s about to be February

I thought about getting a R3 but I knew in a month I'd get bored of the power. so I went ahead and went with the R6. tbh best move I've ever made but I have rode a R3 and damn it is fun.

Great video thanks, I’m considering the R3 or the KTM 390 Duke as a beginner bike. I had a Yamaha ybr125 back around 2008 for just over a year before getting my driving license, but it’s been over 10 years since I’ve driven a bike, so I feel a lower CC bike like this would be better for me than going for a 600cc to start with. I will keep watching videos about good beginner bikes etc and see how i feel when the time comes.

You get an extra cylinder in R3, top speed is slightly more. But 390 accelerates more.

R3 is a great bike, but that Monster livery is overpriced for what it is. I mean, when I went into my dealership for 1st service on my 2019 R3 they had R125 in Monster livery that was just released. And it costed almost as much as my R3 did. From my half year experience with an R3 I feel that it is better to buy one in standard colors and spend that extra money on "Endurance" windscreen and maybe LED signal lights

Just to add some numbers here: I paid my R3 47.900HRK here in Croatia (around 7.129USD). That is the list price here and it includes all the things that you guys in US get added on at the checkout, like taxes (which are 25% here), them preparing the bike for you to take it out etc. On top of that I have to pay insurance and to register the bike, but that is not something that is done at the dealer. Price for R125 Monster Energy Edition was around 43.000 HRK (around 6.200USD) about 3 months ago, while now it is on sale for a bit less than base R125.

I don’t understand the engine braking desire. Wouldn’t you rather wear out friction material on a set of cheaper brake pads versus a clutch pack?
@AnabolicRick9155 жыл бұрын
kemnik1 I don’t know shit about bikes, just wanting to get into it recently, but if it’s anything like a car, the clutch won’t wear at all. The way engine braking works is the engine turns into a vacuum when not being supplied with fuel, and so the pistons kind of cause a suction, which slows down the internals in the engine, and in turn the driveshaft, wheels and your vehicle in general. Unless you are constantly down-shifting as you engine brake, this is something you don’t need to worry about.
@KemDIY5 жыл бұрын
Erick Ortiz you are correct for sure. I was more imagining downshifting to slow down. Constantly. I was using the wrong terminology.

@WILDWILL535 жыл бұрын
Chase I know these are lower cc bikes but you should do like a rolling acceleration test. In example, you dropped your speed to 75 well drop a gear and let us see what kind of acceleration that provides. To me that's important if you need to get out of a situation. No I don't mean running from John Law
